The Home Theater Thread

I've got a Denon AVR-S710W. Its an older receiver but it has everything I need. Handles 4K video, HDR 10 and all HD audio formats including Dolby atmos.
Still running good for you? I have a Denon purchased in 2011 when I got my plasma, so it's out of date and no 4k/HDR etc. Currently looking at their AVR-S740H as it has all the basics for audio codecs and HDR. Also on sale right now at a decent discount so probably going to pull the trigger.

Still running solid for me. Denon products haven't done me wrong yet and the AVR-S740H looks to be a great product as well, especially if you can get it at the prices I'm seeing.

I like Yamaha,Pioneer and Sony as they can give you good sound for a decent price.
I go for specs ie how loud and how they match up to the AVR matching ohms, watts etc.

For my 7.1 set up, I've got some JAMO floor-standing speakers and bookshelf speakers paired with a polk audio sub woofer.

I have Elac Debut 2.0 speakers only have four hooked up to an old Sony 420w receiver, the other two are the stock center and sub. They sound great to me and my friend who fancies himself a speaker connoisseur, but I think it’s the wood flooring that really helps and minimal furniture/clutter in the living room.

Hooked up my new receiver today and found that my subwoofer is fried lol. No clue how long it's been like that honestly as I don't have it up that much since I'm in an upstairs apartment, and rarely watch movies or games that would have a lot of bass. I have a Boston Acoustics HTiB so shouldn't expect much I guess. Ended up buying a Polk Audio PSW108, which is a 10in 100w sub. I think my previous was 8in 100w so good enough. Like I said don't use a lot of bass so that should be enough for a bit of low range. Possibly better is it's front facing instead of down facing like my last so maybe turning up a bit more will be possible.

I've got a AVR-S710W. Denon has never done wrong by me. But I would avoid this particular model that you are looking at. Seems like the Aug 2018 firmware update broke its network connectivity and I don't know if they ever pushed out a fix.

The most recent firmware update (Aug 2018 ) disabled the S640H’s network capability where the unit cannot reconnect to the network once the latest update is installed. A fix is in development and should be released in the near future.

In the meantime, please note that the S640H can be restored to its prior firmware by following the *procedure below. Once this procedure is complete, the S640H will again be operational on the network. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope to have this corrected shortly

I have a Klipsch 12" sub also with some random rear surrounds from Amazon
Sounds great, movies are awesome.
All components are in the closet behind the TV.

Is that your price range? Or can you go a bit higher, cause if you can...id recommend one of the Pioneer's but if it's only between the top 3... Id get the Onkyo.

Atm, I’d say about 1.2k (was gonna buy a truck but that fell through :p) but honestly I dono. I’m on the fence if I want 5.1 or 7.2.1. It’s for the living room and will be using it primarily for gaming and movies as a really close second through the X...switch too.

Do want 4k with the option for ATMOS (is that 9.1?). Been told that anything THX certified, with Dirac Sensaround and something else, preamps I think, are a must.

I’ll take what you recommend into serious consideration :)

After years of trying many brands and wanting to spend up to $1500...

I went with the brand that always put out the best sound imo....

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/pionee...Kz0uuwGWgVUHVsvfocqdMEMpHsNCWulxoCACEQAvD_BwE

But i got it here cheaper...

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Pioneer-SC...AV-Receiver-/282226117090?hash=item41b5fcc9e2
That seller is trusted and you can buy from its non ebay site if you have doubts.

It fits cabinets better than most and runs cooler.
Is a Class D3 amp unlike most other brands..
Does Atmos/DTS X,Dolby Vision etc
Great upscaling of stuff to 4k like my Switch.
Sounds amazing after tweaking uses ESS Sabre..
Looks the sexiest!

I picked up a Pioneer vsxLX503. I needed something with pre-outs for the rears because I just had my floor tiled and had the wires under the carpet before.
