Was anyone else not really blown away by Splatoon 2 or Arms?

Not bad games. They just didn't keep my attention through a rental. Then again my tastes in games has changed a lot.

I love Splatoon! ARMS is ok but haven't played it much. Probably dumb idea to buy it with Splatoon out.

Not blown away but they are solid games.
I am giving mine a break until Mario and hoping Zelda gets Dungeons in its next DLC so I can finish it.

I skipped Arms and picked up Splatoon 2. Even though its not really my type of game id still give it 8/10.
Its a good game.
Im planning on buying Battle Chasers: Nightwar, Fifa 18, Hollow Knight and Mario Odyssey to fill out the year.

They're OK, but tastes change over time. IMO on any other platform they'd be digital only titles (look at Snake Pass) and they're fundementally the same at their core, colourful arena combat.

Nintendo owes Satoru Iwata a huge debt of gratitude for his vision. DS, wii, amiibo and switch were all under his watch.

"Iwata has a base salary of ¥100 million ($770,000 USD) but can reach to ¥187 million ($2.11 million USD) thanks to performance-based bonuses"

Yeah Id say hes been well compensated for his efforts.

In a bubble, I'd say he was well compensated. But when you compare his salary to other CEOs of billion dollar companies or even within the game space, Iwata was a bargain. Especially given how much profit his decisions made for Nintendo overall during and after his tenure.

I know that many are tired of this old game. But I would love to have Half-life 2 or Orange Box ported to Switch.

Just picked up a switch...BUT its for my son....for Christmas!!! Worried I wouldn't get one around the holidays so just happened to go to bestbuy.com and several local stores around me had stock so I bought it online and picked it up in the store...he's going to flip...but sh*t is 4 months away man. Anyway, I guess I didn't realize how damn expensive the Switch + Accessories are. Just to get near what I had on WiiU as far as accessories go puts me at almost $500 (2 extra joycons, pro controller, wheel accessory x 2) which is about $100 more than the WiiU + similar accessories. Add in the "mobile accessories" like a hard case, carry case, screen protector, etc. and it's well over $500. That is with no games...

Between this and the Scorpio...gonna be broke as a joke.

I will probably be getting:
Rocket League
Stardew Valley

Definitely getting:
Mario Odyssey (will be a gift)

Most likely getting:
Mario + Rabbids
Skyrim (will be a gift)

Just love this system.

For us, this is definitely a secondary console/portable. I'm looking at:

Zelda
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Splatoon 2
Arms
Mario Odyssey
Minecraft

after that, I imagine I'll only get 1-3 games/yr for it judging by ownership of previous Ninty consoles...and most likely nearly all Ninty first party with a few exceptions. I probably won't double-dip on games but there will be exceptions like Minecraft and maybe Rocket League. One big issue for me is sales...for games like Rocket League, I got that for like $11 and Ninty seems to RARELY have sales. Largely I'm hoping it gets my kid the f*ck off my 4K...he can play the switch in bed :).

I just started playing the Switch again. When I initially bought my Pro Controller there was something wrong with it, sends my characters in wrong directions, input lag, and disconnects. Sending it to Nintendo is a PITA. I wanted a second Pro Controller for my girl so we can play MK8 (she hates the regular switch controller) so I bought a second Pro Controller, kept it and swapped my broken pro controller into it's box and exchanged it for a new one, and voila 2 brand new working pro controllers. Now I think I am going to have to send in my Joycons because they are doing the same thing, input lag, disconnecting, blah blah.

http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...isappointing-mobile-app-just-got-a-big-update

"Nintendo's mobile companion app for the Switch just got a big improvement. Its new update, 1.1.0, now lets you chat while using other apps or while your phone's screen is switched off.

The Switch's mobile companion app launched back in July and it is fair to say we were less than impressed by its capabilities. Lacking in features, underbaked in finish, Martin described the experience of using the Switch companion app as "almost aggressively limited".

"Right now there's just not enough there to justify downloading it," Martin wrote, "and beyond the stat-tracking of Splatnet it's more of a fuss using its voice chat than heading to an external alternative such as Discord."

Still, it is encouraging to see Nintendo update the app further - and there's still plenty of time until the company begins charging for its Switch online service.

The paid service will encompass online play, the voice chat app, eShop deals, and a Virtual Console library of retro games with added online multiplayer."
