I finally started this tonight, got the Complete Edition on sale during the Winter holidays. I’m only a couple hours in and it is really hooking me already. This game looks amazing on the One X. Very impressive world and I really like the voice acting it’s bringing it to life. I can see this being my new addiction. Looking forward to diving into it more.

It started slow for me. I would say after about 10-15 hrs into it I was totally hooked. This game is probably my favorite RPG of all time and one of the best games I have ever played. The gameplay is so well done with lots of different options for builds but the stories from the main quest to the side missions are of a quality not seen in many RPGs that I have played. I put in something like over 150 hrs. into it covering the main campaign and all the DLC and I'm still tempted to go back to tight up some loose ends.

Any tips on skills/perks to unlock? My first couple I focused on a regenerating health one and one that gave me 500 extra health.

I'd say take a look at the skills in the general tree. Those will help during the early levels but don't worry too much about making the wrong choice because you can buy a potion to reallocate your skill points later on. Loot everything is the best advice I can give for anyone just starting out.

There are no right or wrong builds. I think alchemy is best for a jack of all trades build that will make you very tanky, increase sword damage while also increasing sign intensity. Actually I think alchemy makes the game too easy but I really like that powerful feeling. Just wait until late in the game to spec into it because many of its useful skills are not available until after you have a lot of skill points.

Also, find all the places of power that you can. Those are free skill points.

Thanks for the tips. Normally when I fire up a RPG with a skill tree I can get an idea of how I want to shape my character, but since I’m new to the Witcher series in general and noticed you can only have so many active at one time I wasn’t sure where to start.

There is a mutation that decreases the damage you take while dodging (maxed out, you take no damage). Find it and keep it on.

Also the Sun and Stars (I think thats what it's called) auto regens (slowly) health during the day.

Finally had some more time to play this. Beat the griffin last night. One question, what is a good way to make money early game? I’m poor as hell.

There used to be exploits early in the game you could take advantage of but I think CDPR patched them out. I don't know of a great way to make money early other than loot everything and sell.

Loot everything and sell everything. Weapons and armor give you the most bang for your buck. Also I found the Griffin to be one of the harder Witcher Contracts personally, but maybe it's because I forgot about them and went back at a higher level and just wiped out all of it. You get a lot of money for doing these.

Most of the things I find isn’t worth much. The things I have found that are worth some cash I thought maybe I should hold onto.

sell anything and everything you can. Make potions, bombs, whatever and sell what you can. The further you get into the game you'll find better stuff to sell. Beginning of the game you gotta just kinda get your ass kicked for a bit until you get better

So started playing W3 after a brief pause. Got a conundrum - flirted with Triss at the ball and said I loved her at the dock. Now we are romancing (playing jazz music). I never played Witcher 1 or 2 so don't know much about the back story. Feel bad for Yennefer as I believe she is meant to be his true love. But Triss looked damn fine in that ball gown, besides she comes across as a nicer person - goes the full mile puts herself in danger for others etc. Haven't had much interaction with Yennefer yet, but is this gonna screw some of the plot later on? I've still got a save where I can go back. They are both hot, what a red blooded Witcher to do?

Sorry if mild spoilers.

Triss is the only appropriate choice

Triss is the correct answer.

Cool, and by the way I...ehem...rubbed Kiera's magic lamp too but I guess she is not a major character in the plot.

Yen is Geralt's True love, dammit! I went with Triss on my new game plus and it just feels WRONG!! They've written songs about his love for Yennifer!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I can't wait to get to the expansions but I forgot what a huge time sink the game can be. I'm enjoying things I've forgotten or haven't seen on my first play through years ago.

The writing is so good too easily up there as some of the best of our time. A lot of sub plots are well written and engaging. And funny as well.

Hell yeah they are. Blood and Wine could easily be a full priced standalone game.

Blood and Wine's soundtrack...incredible. The land of Toussaint... beautiful.

Each expansions can easily add 10+ hours per expansion.
