Those who've had PS+ since the start - are you happy?

Hey guys.

I'm a newcomer to the PS4, quite late I might add. I've missed out on several months worth of free indie titles that come with the PS+ membership.

That being said, do you guys find it worthwhile? I don't really game multiplayer very much because of my crazy havenotimeforgames lifestyle, and I found that my xbox 360 gold memership was largely wasted due to this.

I've also read that people are having problems with PSN lately, not sure if they're having network capacity/stability issues, but I'd like to hear from you.

THanks!

In many ways we are similar, i do not online game much either and actually switched to PS3 from 360 because i was able to do some features for no additional cost on it.

I do believe PSN+ is worth the fee even if you only have the PS4. I actually ended up joining it before the PS4 even came out because the sale prices, the storage backup and the games of the month were saving me more than the cost of the membership. While i personally haven't been that excited about the games of the month lately (i thought they were fantastic early in the year), i do find during a full year that the service is close to that cost for the games alone. The real value for me has been the sales though, whether its been saving a good $20 on Injustice (PS4) earlier this year, or even just $5-10 on some other games, its been a great deal in that area for me. If you also have a PS3 and/or Vita then the savings and the benefits of joining the club are even larger. I think this is where the value really shows, if you have both PS3/Vita and PS4.

Last note i want to say, you can very often find PSN+ or XBL on sale, so obviously the cheaper you get the membership, the more value you'll see with it. I believe i paid $30 for PSN+ last Black Friday online. I should add, i rarely have problems with PSN+ being down or running poorly. If its scheduled maintenance then obviously its down for me, otherwise its rarely down for gaming and more importantly to me steaming netflix and stuff like that.

Until the destiny beta i hadnt really played games online, i mostly stuck to single player games. I will be playing destiny online now and also diablo 3 is supposed to be a really good online coop game which are the online modes i like the most. I havent really liked much of the ps plus game offerings but i am sure it will get better on ps4 since its a new system.

With the PS3 its a phenomenal value. IMO, on the PS4, not so much. It was pretty decent at first, but the last couple months have been fairly mediocre.

I've had it since it started, in EU. :)

For me, the biggest benefit is the extra savings for in the PS-store for PS-plus members, especially during the various big-sales beeing held on PSN-store every two-three months or so - I usually earn my 50 dollar yearly-investment back pretty soon - since often the offers are much better for us PS+ people. :-/

As for the games on offer, in the beginning SCEE mainly introduced, smaller downloadable titles for PS3/PSP, and there were no sort of system how many games we got, or when. Some months we got 4 titles - other months we got 10. The freebies allways were pretty good tough.
SCEE-blog said they'd allways try to get games who got 80 or higher on metacritic.
A few month down the line they started dishing out triple A games aswell..

They had a poll, wich type of games we'd like, I wanted more small stuff. But the Triple A won - so after that we got more triple A-titles, and less PSN-games.. :-/
When the Vita launched, they didn't add new stuff for PS+ the first year, they said they needed to let the library mature before they gave away games. But when the floodgates opened, and the titles started coming, it were all amazing games, Gravity Rush, Uncharted:GA were available for a year, before they swapped.. Wipeout, Final Fantasy: Tactics, Jetset Radio and Tale from Space: Mutant Blob, were the first monthly exchange-games. After that I think there is allways one or two cool games each month for Vita, but I don't play my Vita as often as PS4 or PC so I often forget to download them..

When PS4 came, PS+ were there day one, it's been mainly much more smaller stuff, but usually it's pretty great stuff if you're into the genre. :)
Just a few big one like NBA:2K14, now they have said they'd have 6 new games each month, 2 PS4-games, 2 PS3 games, 2 Vita games, available for plus members...

I'm sure we'll see much more newer and bigger games at now when the platform is done with it's first year. :)
But the real value is in all those extra PS-plus percentages during the big sales..

i honestly can't see how it isn't value. unless you have zero interest in playing smaller or indie titles.

I wouldn't have PSN+ if it wasn't required for online multiplayer. But I want to play with friends in online games.

I've had Ps plus since the beginning and to me it's very worth it. Can you imagine I bought a ps vita the other day and I already have 30 games for it even though i've only bought one. Power of the +

First joined around Fall 2013 only because it was mandatory for PS4 online but after joining, discovered the immense value it gives to you if you own the Sony platforms. The first few months for PS4 were amazing but the quality has dropped a bit the past few months. PS3's support is amazing since there's a lot more titles in its stable that they can offer. Additionally, you get a lot of discount from sales and whatnot. I got my yearly subs for $29.99 and $17.99 for each one. I also own the Vita so I basically get 6 free titles each month x 12 months = 72 games free yearly plus I get to play online and get additional discounts.

Thanks everyone for the responses. Seems to be divided, which makes sense. Seeing as I don't MP, there's no rush for me to get a membership just yet, so I'll wait until they actually have a good indie game that's free with PS+ (that I would enjoy) at which point I'll feel like the $50 + tax purchase will actually be for a good reason. Or if I can get a card for a discount, but this is Canada, and sales on these things do not happen frequently here.

Wait for Black Friday/Christmas to get them. They're usually $29.99 on sale then. You can get it digitally via Amazon as well at that time.

Also Walmart last year had this crazy sale for $17.99 for the old 1 year PS+ subs. Keep an eye out for those as well.

Thanks man, I will definitely keep my eyes out. I'm a fan of amazon.ca so I'll check it regularly going into December / boxing day, etc.

Question about PS+ indie titles, do they ever let you know what's coming down the pipe? Or does the month come and it's a surprise to everyone which game they've chosen?

Usually the last week of the previous month, they will announce what titles are coming.

Just follow the us-playstation-blog to see what stuff is available, the games offered get swapped out each first wednesday of the month, and the week before they announce what games you'll get.

I also think there is a free 14 day PS+ trial-membership account right now, if you havn't been a member before..
On your store page. :-/

I'm much more happy with it now. I cancelled my subscription for a year or so after the first year of +, because the offerings were so terrible initially. Anyone who complains about the games we're getting now doesn't realize how good they have it!

I've had it form the start and I think it's well worth the 50 a year or whatever sales price you get it at.

PS+ has been great. So far about 80% of the content offered are games that I would have bought otherwise. Going further, I have a Vita collection closing in on 30 titles should I ever get around to grabbing one.

It is undoubtedly a great value on PS3 and Vita. I have no doubt that it will be on the PS4 as well. They just need to start throwing some retail games on each month. Killzone or Knack are perfect PS+ Titles.

I think Knack will end up being in the November List (system one year anniversary). Just a guess.

yeah I want Knack but waiting on that one as I hope it's free one day. Sony needs to stop up the PSN+ on PS4.

Yup, i sure am. I've always said PS+ is the best $50 i've ever spent. It's been a great service from the start and it only keeps getting better.

I think the PS3 free games are better simply because that's the only reason to have it in the first place because mp was free. Sony realised it was a costly mistake to allow free mp so enticed gamers with free games to get them paying a subscription.
Now that PS+ is mandatory to play online on PS4 there is less incentive for Sony to give away some of yhe better games. Obviously the free games on PS4 will get better as more games come out but I don't see them needing to try as hard because if you want to play mp you have to buy it anyway.

Yeah, exactly. Plus the PS4 just came out. What are they really going to give away at this point? When PS+ started, the PS3 was already in full swing. People just need to give it time.
