I'm still blown away that the NRA fought against stiffer background checks in the 1990s. I had no idea that happened and they won.

This is dumb. Just like the gun debate, it ignores the actual deeper societal issues that are far more difficult to tackle. Politician chasing a boogie man? Color me surprised...

Kids played with toy guns long before video games were ever a thought in anyone's mind, hell I played with them even after games were invented as I'm sure most of you guys did as well. Violent games are also played by most of the world yet we are the only country that has school shootings on a regular basis, it's the easy access to guns that is the biggest problem. There are mentally ill people in all other countries that aren't able to carry out these acts because the weapons aren't available, if they were I'm sure the problem would be more wide spread.

Gaming isn't to blame, movies aren't to blame it's a combination of things with easy access to weapons being the main issue because guns are what's used to carry out the violence but a lack of respect for one another, mental health issues and the way mood altering drugs that have side effects are distributed like candy by many in the medical field (and other things) are what gets us to the point where someone wants to carry out the violent act to begin with.

Yep keep looking for other things to blame rather than admit the problem that you need gun control.

Never allowed to play with guns, not even water guns when I was a kid, dude my mum would get pissed if I’d even made a gun gesture with my fingers. Granted she was ok with it once I was older. Had my uncle, a vet, show me the way.

But yeah it’s not like kids playing cowboys and Indians lead them to later in life suppress other ethnicities with real gunfire :p

How much money did the NRA have to pay this administration to get the blame shifted to video games & movies again?

Probably just a well done steak with ketchup.

And two scoops of ice cream.

On behalf of the gaming community I think we all offer our pre-emptive condolences to all the industry members who have to go and endure whatever talks trumpo is going to have with them..

(Trumps brother actually works for zenimax)

Finally, via Jake Tapper, here is the full list of attendees:

Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL)

Representative Vicky Hartzler (R-MO)

Representative Martha Roby (R-AL)

Strauss Zelnick, CEO Take-Two Interactive

Brent Bozell, Media Research Center

Lt. Col. Dave Grossman, author of “Assassination Generation: Video Games, Aggression, and the Psychology of Killing”

Pat Vance, president of Entertainment Software Rating Board

Mike Gallagher, President and CEO of ESA

Robert Altman, Chairman and CEO of Zenimax

Melissa Henson, Parents Television Council

This meeting isn't going to go well, is it?

Nope. Hopefully this turns out to be another Trump dog and pony show.

If that list of attendees should be a big warning to everyone. It is pretty clear that nobody wants an open discussion. They need a boogie man to take attention away from the actual problem, and the video game industry looks like their newest target.

This shouldn't even be a discussion. Video games have ratings and the system works just fine.

Should they change the legal age to purchase/experience violent media/art to 25 when the prefrontal cortex is fully developed?

Exactly. All the things that get blamed have been around for a long long time so something else has obviously changed in our society.

If they do then voting, drinking, joining the military, and sexual consent should join it. Either you are an adult or not.

Right. It's kind of crazy how 21 in the new 18 in a lot of ways socially nowadays. Yet the government can give a 17 year old a weapon of mass destruction and point him at whoever they want.

Bit of an exaggeration, but correct in spirit ;)

I was thinking along the lines of "you can die for your country but you can't have a beer"

No 17year old would have access to WMDs in the military, but I get your point. I also say that if you can't handle a videogame then you have no business voting either. If we as a society decide the adult age is 25 (lol) then how long till it's 30? At some point you have to nut up and grow up, and be expected to.
