Ubisoft has an under-wraps Wii U title ready to launch, but it is waiting to see if and when the console will sell more units.

Company boss Yves Guillemot revealed the news in a roundtable interview at E3 (thanks, Polygon), where he said that the unannounced title was finished and ready to be released.
"We have another couple of products that we are waiting to launch," he said. "Specifically we have one game that we wait for the machine to be more mass market to launch.
"[It] has been done for six months. It's on the shelf, waiting for more families to have the console."
Ubisoft was one of the strongest third-party supporters of Nintendo's console at its launch in 2012 - but new Wii U announcements from the publisher have tailed off, and the Wii U version of Watch Dogs was delayed to release the other platforms sooner.
"We did adapt the number of products to the level of quantities that the machine did," Guillemot explained. "So we will have Just Dance again which is well suited for the machine. We'll have Watch Dogs. "
Ubisoft was not willing to divulge exactly how much more units Wii U needed to sell before it would release the game.
"We don't have a number," Guillemot added. "We need the sales to increase so it becomes more and more mass market then we will have the volume that will justify massive marketing and TV marketing.
Should Wii U never achieve the sales required, the game may be released instead on another platform, he concluded, although the company will "wait for Smash Bros. to come" before making any firm decisions.

You know I'm getting quite fed up with Ubisofts Behaviour the last few years, openly trash talking consoles, producing sequel after sequel and now this.... keep it already. I'm sure Nintendo makes ten times the game that thing would have been. It's time for Nintendo to start courting the amount of indies they have on their store and "upgrade" them to full budgeted third party partners. You know a few money infusions to make games even better and help the indies to Nintendo fame while at the same time giving big publishers like Ubisoft, EA and Activision Blizzard the finger.

For instance, I'm no fan of the French language, but this next Assassin's Creed should have been fully in French with English Subtitles only. Also to set the atmosphere. But that is a general problem with games :). Would love for games to converse in the language of the setting they are set in :).

This feels like the definition of a self fulfilling prophecy.

Then why not just scale back the marketing budget? Seems like an odd decision, but then, I'm not a CEO or privvy to their budgeting process.

It also seems like an odd decision because, unless Wii U sales suddenly take off, the install base isn't going to grow by leaps and bounds any time soon.

The sales of that game would be through the roof.

The roof of an anthill.

That's one budget you don't want to scale down on. Less potential money to be made by getting less eyes on your product. They're waiting for some kind of sweet spot and they are well within their right since the Wii is taking another role of forgettable third party sales. Money has already been spent, but it probably cost zero dollars to just hold on to the actual content. They probably haven't even put the game on any discs yet either. If anything, this is kind of a smart move, as opposed to just canceling the game outright when you have no confidence in the intended platform.

Well, there are a lot of people who prefer Japanese in Japanese movies and not have things dubbed as well. It also would make things a bit more... fitting and atmospheric in this case. But hey, I also would have wanted to have Ryse fully in ancient latin. Okay maybe an option for the fans to have dubs rather than subs, as I remember the amount of anger American fans had over Shenmue 2 coming to Europe and not to them because of "Not wanting to dub, and Europeans don't mind subtitles".

When asked about it the majority of people said "I can't play a game while I have to read!", so the American Shenmue 2 fans where burned big time for that reason. But at least allow the best version of the voice acting to be in the language of the setting :). It also would help us to learn some new languages, even if it is just a few words ;).

In Europe it was released on the Dreamcast with subtitles and it was quite well done.

I would tell Ubi to fukc right off. Especially after that bullcrap they pulled with Rayman Origins.

They might be waiting to see how much a similar game sells on the console.
Notice he referenced Smash Bros and said they were waiting for more FAMILIES to get the machine? It's probably a Rabbids or Rayman game or some kind of Nintendo esque family title.

Oh Ubisoft. I guess they couldn't take Activision getting all the negative press. It's been done for 6 months lol? Just release it.

Ubiosft is a travesty. And they are practically admitting their game won't be a system seller. Their policies and practices will be the end of them.

Ubisoft has actually backed the Wii U more so than other third party developers but this is just stupid. Why spend the resources and time to develop this game and then not release it? Honestly sounds like they know the game is trash and they're just trying to bury the Wii U because it's the popular thing to do.

So is this the year Ubisoft turn their back on the Wii U? Watch Dogs isn't getting spoken about now no AC game plus the unknown new IP that was finished around 8 months ago but won't see a release unless sales improve.

Exactly. What I don't understand is that if it's already made, and they've spent the money on development- why not just release it and recoup some of the cost?

Erm, Shenmue 2 WAS dubbed. On Dreamcast as well as on the Xbox.

I don't get the Ubi-Hate at all, really. I've had a ton of fun on almost every game I play from them. They also have a nicely varied library. Sure they do a lot of sequels, and sometimes they make changes that some purists don't like, but at least they are quality for the most part.

Shenmue II was only released with Japanese voice work on DC, No English voices for DC owners.

The reason the US version was canned was because of the deal with MS.

I'm with ya, Ubisoft makes good games IMO.

Hmm, maybe I am thinking of the OG xbox version only then. It's been a while.

I'll third that. Ubisoft has made some fine games for sure. Rayman Legends and Origins were amazing games for me. It's a shame there isn't more high quality productions for 2D games backed by major devs such as Ubisoft. Animations and illustrations just looked so absolutely fantastic and fluid. I can only imagine how much fun it was for an animator to do any kind of storyboarding/animating for a project like that.

Erm, I own a Dreamcast and Shenmue 2, and I assure you Big Ben did NOT dub it. On the Xbox, sure, but not on the European Dreamcast Market.

Yeah, I saw that earlier. You are correct. I have no problem admitting I was wrong. I thought I had played it on Dreamcast like the first, but I must be remembering the xbox version. I must have played the un-dubbed version but mixed it with the OG xbox. It was a long time ago and I remember playing it dubbed. So :p

MK gave it a sales boost but it seems non Nintendo games have struggled on the U.

Yeah, that was a similar problem for them last gen as well. Said it before and I'll say it again, I just think Ubisoft is waiting for a more strategic holiday release so they can get as big a boost from the Wii U version as possible.

I could care less if we don't get a Raving Rabbids game.
