Official Thread VR Headset

Race games and VR are a perfect fit. I think a golf game would be pants too.

Considering all the talk about VR/AR right now, I'm surprised I never even heard of this one:

I think a lot of the games people want out of VR unfortunately require a lot of power. I've seen this and the wireless aspect is great but the onboard power of the unit is really going to hold it back imo.

Sulon Q will make a great alternative for AR until HoloLens is up to snuff. Very cool tech, it'll be great if you could attach it to a PC and get a little more graphical oomph going on.

Oculus Rift comes bundled with the head tracking sensor, Xbox One controller, Oculus remote, a very sexy carrying case, and two games, Eve Valkyrie and Lucky's Tale. And all for $600. I'd say that is much better than the competition.

My order number is a 33. I gotta wait a couple months probably. :( Oh well, plenty of steam backlog until then.

If Sony can Kickstarter Shenmue, then we can help lucid!

For a dime a day, us Union-ites can buy hookers, to distract Lucid from his wait!

If you donate more, we can guarantee they're born female. A little more, and they have teeth.

Hold the teeth... ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Mine is 34. Had an April shipment but according to various spreadsheets on Reddit almost every 34 lands in May. My order never got through for 50 minutes due to site crashes.

OK, I should be receiving my headset in a few days and I don't have a system capable of playing it. I am faced with 2 choices:

1. See if these things are selling profitably on ebay for those who can't wait and sell it. (I would need to make over $100 profit to even consider doing this).
-or-
2. Buy a laptop capable of running it. A desktop maybe possible but I'd have to make it a family room desktop that hooks to my Samsung TV, get wireless keyboard, mouse, etc. I like the idea of a laptop because of the ease of mobility to take my OR to parties, friends, and family.

My problem with #2 is I have no idea what it will cost to not only meet but future-proof and exceed the power requirements. Is there a laptop out there that is worthy?

I have an MSI laptop now that I have been very happy with, would this model do the trick?

Amazon product

Anyone with a better idea?

Or is going laptop a stupid decision and for the same money could have a bang-on desktop that works seamlessly with a large-scale family room setup?

Yes, I am clueless about this stuff. I am a console gamer and even though my current laptop can play most games fine, I just haven't been able to get into gaming this way short of some point and clicks games. VR with Oculus could very well be what brings me around to gaming via the computer.

Appreciate any and all help!

Amaz0n links don't work in this forum, but quoting you showed the page ID. That laptop would sure do the trick.

To me, I go desktop even if you need the wireless stuff. I mean, you'll save A LOT of money, be able top upgrade as new tech comes out, and not have to worry laptop heating issues. In the end it's your call though, if a laptop is what you need, you can't really do better than that one.

Thanks Lucid. Maybe just what I needed to hear. I laptop is very expensive and for $3,000 I could surely get as much power for half the price in a desktop. I could build a PC too, one of my boy's is a computer science major and he has already built one for himself. I shouild probably just turn this over to him the more I think about it.

Edit: Gosh I am wishy washy on this. I just checked ebay and these Oculus Consumer Versions are selling for well over $1,000 each (verified sales). If I am in an early shipment I will easily put this up on ebay and then end up with my Playstation VR being free. No computer upgrade needed!

Stay tuned.....

Mine was supposed to be in the first shipment... now it says May.

So annoyed and disappointed about this at the moment.

No Rift until the Summer even if you pre-ordered? That's crazy.

For the majority of people that were the first to preorder, yep. I saw on twitter a few people that ordered several minutes after me and are stuck waiting until late May/early June.

Mines been pushed back from April to 6-16 June.
My cousin had a March pre order and was pushed back to early May but he just messaged me saying his order has been processed and the money taken so his should be on the way.
