We Happy Few

I need to remember to download this onto the X and try it again someday, once I get a chance to get through everything else that I need to play on the X.

It's very different from a few years back

E3 trailer:

It's going to be 20 hrs.

Sam Abbott: "But the early reception we got – everyone was so enthusiastic and we started getting comparisons to games like BioShock. We were 15 people at the time. So that’s an order of magnitude different from the team that built BioShock. We sort of looked at that and thought we had two options: we can keep building the small game we were thinking of. Or we can say, why don’t we give it a go? Why don’t we build the game we think people are expecting. That’s been the story of the last two years. We scaled up from 15 to 35-40 people internally, and then we have our external QA teams."

I had no interest in tbis after trying the preview but after seeing the E3 trailer I might have to give this a go.

It's kinda funny. This was a hard pass for me before, but now I find myself losing interest in Anthem, and gaining with this game. Very weird for me...

I think this game is trying to do too many things at the same time crossing too many genres. When the game was first shown I thought it was a narrative-heavy adventure game, but now it has stealth, upgrades, & combat.

I wouldn't have minded if they can pull it off, but the combat (IMO) is very underwhelming, with 1-2 basic attacks (from what I seen).

Will have to see with more info.

I'll probably be busy with AC Odyssey when this comes out, so I'll have to miss it. I wasn't that big a fan of Bioshock, so I'm in no hurry. I'll let other people give it a try first, and see what they say.

Gearbox have gone very greedy with the pricing of this.

Even early access buyers are still expected to pay ÂŁ40+ for the game

Um that is just dumb. I thought when you buy a game in game preview that is all you pay.

The price got doubled when gearbox picked up the publishing rights but the discount for people who already paid half the price is a joke. Essentially paying over ÂŁ60 Just for the base game now

I assume it is too early in the buyout for MS to override this dumb decision. I was planning on getting the game. But I don't like this practice.

I thought this was an indie-priced game, but it looks like it's $60?

My go to review site, Eurogamer:

We Happy Few review - a rich and dizzying social satire that is seldom great fun to play

Conclusion:

After disliking We Happy Few in Early Access I was half-expecting to loathe it at launch, and there is a lot that I loathe about it: the lumpy brawling, the showers of trinkets that usually amount to nothing, the branching scenarios that only make you yearn for Dishonored's vertical mazes and chaining abilities. But for everything I dislike, there is an element of the universe and writing that grabs me by the ears. A series of damning jokes about Brutalism, that architectural aesthetic so beloved of dystopian storytellers. A series of quests that take the piss out of Macbeth. The use of quizshow formats and Simon Says to root out non-conformists. Uncle Jack's impersonation of Mary Queen of Scots. And above all, the way these shift and expand as you interrogate them from the perspectives of some very different people, in the course of an often deranged, but very serious and multi-faceted interrogation of history and hubris. I'm not sure the game is worth your time, but if you can find the time, you'll find much to ponder.

Polygon says:

We Happy Few is uncomfortable, uncanny and brilliant

Conclusion:

This is where We Happy Few shines brightest. The dialog and character barks in this game are second-to-none. They are funny, human and uncannily realistic. As someone who grew up in England, I felt I recognized many of the fussy, indignant, precious, hilarious and kind people who I met in this game. But I suspect the feeling translates to all peoples.

Perhaps this is what makes We Happy Few so unusual. It is beautifully, carefully written. The words that come out of this game are better than anything I can recall in even the best narrative adventures. The script has clearly been elevated to a place of prime importance. It’s been honed by writers and actors working together to create a coherent universe that’s as frightening as any hellscape dreamed up in more lavish fantasies. If you’re looking for something out of the ordinary to play, you’ve found it.

I didn't like this when it first went into early access and it still doesn't seem like it would to appeal to me either.

I am liking it so far. If you want a story game, this is for you. They prefer you not to choose combat whenever possible.

Yeah I'm liking it so far too.
I wasn't sure which articles I should or shouldn't be censoring, so I was choosing to keep the most positive ones, and censor the most negative ones.

That's what I did. There was one I let through that I should've censored. It was about the children registry. Arthur just said maybe I should not have done that.

We Happy Few PC review: A dark, twisted world of secrets and intrigue

4.5/5.0

Despite the performance issues, We Happy Few is a must-own title for any gamer who loves survival open world titles and quality world building. Unless your PC doesn't meet the minimum specifications (visible on the Steam page) there is no reason not to pick this fantastic game up as soon as possible.
