What are your feelings about pitbulls?

You want to know the percentage of pitbulls who havent attacked? Sure, while Im at it I'll find the percentage of hamsters who have never bitten their owner.

Oh statistics? So please show the percentage of Pit Bulls who attack compared to those who don't out of the whole population... I'll wait

That's a silly way to look at it, again you can look up stats on things. People aren't just making his up to be mean.

Public Menace #1.

Here's an article that says dachshunds are the #1 offender.

Forget pit bulls, rottweilers and Rhodesian ridgebacks, it's the sausage dog that's the most aggressive breed.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/new...ausage-dogs-are-the-most-aggressive-dogs.html

I own a weiner dog. She's never bit anyone. Very mild mannered. But I'm not surprised at the statistics. Weiner dogs are melee scrappers.

This is sad but funny as hell at the same time. I just picture this nashing weiner dog going to town while a large woman in hair curlers in snoring away.

In Illinois last week, Linda Floyd had to have her dachshund, called Roscoe, put down after the dog gnawed off her big toe while she slept. Mrs Floyd, 56, woke up too late because nerve damage from diabetes had left her with no feeling in her toes.

That's a silly way to look at it

Not at all... If you think killing off a whole type of dog based off a small percentage of the ones that do cause problems (Due to human neglect) then that is not only silly, but very ignorant.

Are you not capable of voicing your opinion without questioning the intelligence of those who dont agree with it?

I'll always question the intelligence of those who shows discrimination towards any animal, or type of people

I'm not voicing an opinion about Pit Bulls... I have full on experience with them, and know the facts that human error/neglect/abuse is the cause. Plus the fact that animals will be animals, yet they don't hold a candle to the evil Humans do.

There is literally tons of video documentation backing me up

Has JinCA advocated killing all pitbulls? I don't remember him saying that.

I'm just in favor of increased education/awareness. Pitbull owners really need to do their homework, and they often don't.

The thing that bugs me the most is the guys who use pit bulls to look tough. I hate that.

I did not mean he did... Just that if he does.

I agree... I bet a good percentage of People are very incompetent in caring for their Pit Bulls. Any animal can get triggered due to human ignorance with putting them in, or not realizing the situation.

Oh, I really can't stand those people

I question people who also bring up Black crime in being a higher percentage, or the high percentage of Black inmates in prison for such a small population out of the whole U.S.... Does that mean they are a far worse race of people than anyone else, should we get rid of them? OR, is it possible that the situation they are born into, how they are raised, and the areas they live in sets many up for failure? If so, then why can't that happen with Pit Bulls?

Public Menace #1.

I just threw a few links in to show how they stack up, in fatal attacks they are number 1 by far and have been for a long time.

Most people should not own a pitbull. They're not capable of understanding the breed, how to properly train them, and how to be constantly aware because of the years, and decades, of breeding for the sole purpose of aggression and inbreeding. This isn't exclusive to pitbulls either, but they're #1. Rottweilers are up there as well along with dobermans

I think pitbulls are fine. We should be looking at the owners.

Yep. Owning a big dog is a bit like owning a gun. A little common sense and safety and you'll be fine.

The problem is people. People need to understand when adopting a big dog that they need to:
-exercise it
-keep it behind a fence / on a leash

My former neighbors had a doberman. Was a beautiful dog, but they never, ever walked it. Needless to say the dog was outside all day and barked and barked and barked (never mind that the entire area across the street from us is a big, wide open empty grass field).

The people ended up getting rid of the dog (they told me they gave it to someone on a farm... yeah right). Frigging people.

One of my other wonderful neighbors has an akida. Well, this guy's wife who's all of 100 lbs soaking wet walks the dog, and the minute the dog sees something, off it goes. The dog is dragging the lady behind it on the leash. Eventually the thing gets loose and attacks one of my rescue greyhounds. Damn near bit off one of his legs :( (fortunately he made a full recovery eventually).

When I showed them the vet bill (which didn't include the month+ of lost wages from people who had to stay home and give the dog 24 hour attention), I was told that "I shouldn't have been walking my dogs outside!".

Friggin people. I love dogs. It is the 2 legged animals that walk upright that are the ones to worry about.

The size and strength of a dog someone should get should be related to the person/people that will walk them, train them, and care for them. I've wanted a dog for years. I want a rotty. Because my mother, who's in her 70's, would need to come by from time to time to walk him/her, a rotty makes no sense. If something happens, my dog going off for some reason, or the dog being startled, etc., she would need to be able to handle the situation. With a big dog, or a super strong dog, it wouldn't be a good situation. Unfortunately, people don't always think logically when it comes to getting a pet.

Virginia woman killed by her pit bulls in ‘grisly mauling'

A 22-year-old Virginia woman was mauled to death by her dogs while walking them in the woods near her home, authorities said Friday.

Bethany Lynn Stephens’ body was found “guarded by two very large, brindle-colored pit bull dogs” Thursday, Goochland County Sheriff James L. Agnew said during a news conference, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported.

Agnew said the dogs belonged to Stephens and suspected that they had been bred to fight, according to the report.

Reports from the medical examiner’s office said Stephens’ cause of death was “consistent with being mauled by these dogs,” the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported.

“The first traumatic injury to her was to her throat and face,” Agnew said. “It appears she was taken to the ground, lost consciousness, and the dogs then mauled her to death,” he said.

“It was an absolutely grisly mauling. In my nearly 40 years in law enforcement, I’ve never seen anything quite like it,” he said. “I hope I never see anything like it again.

Yuck. What a way to go. I heard there were like 30 "pieces of evidence" strewn about the area.

I have a 12 year old dachshund, a sweet little girl. She's probably not likely to maul me to death any time soon.

yea good rule of thumb.

My friend had a rottweiler. He liked to jump on the couch knock me over and use me as a cuddle pillow :meh:. They can be really good dogs but they are really strong.

I live about 15 miles from where this took place. So sad .. :/

I find the idea of a woman raising fighting dogs a little strange but if she was...
Welp no fuks given here to be honest.

I thought that when I read it at first too but I think they could mean that whoever was the breeder she got them was breeding dogs to be fighters.

That's true. If she wasn't involved in the dogs being treated poorly then I feel very bad for her.
If she was well then I kinda feel like it's a massive dose of karma.

I would never own a pitbull or allow my kids near them. I'm not going to retread the points made in here, but:

- They're muscular aggressive dogs who, if triggered, will cause a lot more harm than any other dog. There's a reason why they cause substantially more harm to people than any other breed by far.

- Because of that, calling this an owner issue over a breed issue is ridiculous. Are there bad pitbull owners? Absolutely. Are pitbull owners so proportionately s***ty to their dogs than any other breed? That doesn't make any sense.

- I've lived with a lot of peaceful pitbulls, but when I saw one try to kill another in my house in front of my very eyes with blood flying everywhere and the predator not ever giving up, I knew the breed was bad news. As someone who grew up with dogs, I have never seen anything like that before and I know for a fact that the mauling I witnessed wasn't a statistical anomaly.

I wouldn't mess with them. Love dogs but pit bulls, german shepards, etc are nuts. It's a case by case basis but just hearing stories why go down that road? Definitely wouldn't want one around kids.

Unless they're s***ty kids... You can't return them once you're stuck with them.

One would think those of the Spitz breed would be more aggressive or wild... I’ve had many, my German Shepard was a sweetheart, and but also an idiot. She’d literally climb/jump up our pomegranate trees after birds and just stay up there until one would bring her down. The first time it happen my mom just said “leave her be, she’ll get back down”, maybe half an hour later and nope there she was, just chilling on a branch passively barking at a dog walking by.

When I was a kid our family had an adopted Pit Bull Terrier / Chow Chow mix breed. He was a friendly almost wimpy dog actually. However despite that anecdote, I agree a lot of caution should be taken with this breed.

I mean honestly, our Pit Bull acted scared of the house cat. Is this just cute or a sign that the dog is kind of fvcked in the head?

I could be wrong but question this line of thought. In my anecdotal experience, if you're a poor, single guy you probably want to own a pit bull. I think generally, poor single guys make bad dog owners.
