What movies have you seen recently?

42: The Jackie Robinson Story - 7/10 got this for christmas on blu ray. I enjoyed it yeah its a liitle too heart warming at times (made my wife cry) but i still liked it decent sports movie. Ford was good.

Ninja 2: Shadow of a Tear.

Fight scenes were great. Movie over all was meh.

Pacific Rim - had $5 to use on Amazon Instant Video so checked it out. Awesome!! Definitely one I'll have to get on Blu-ray as I'm sure the PQ will be even better. Story wasn't entirely original but robots and monsters what more do you need?

Just finished watching bounty killer. Post apocalyptic America, where corporate people are hunted.

thought it was pretty good. 7.5/10

Watched Man of Steel at home the other day. JESUS CHRIST thats a BIG movie! Soooooo much stuff thrown on the screen, and so fast and constant. Fuggin movie drains you by the end....

The Conjuring - 8/10 one of the better scary movies of the last few years i enjoyed it.

Master And Commander: Far Side Of The World - 9/10 picked this up on blu ray for $5. Love the film. Really wish they would carry on the story. I believe its based on a long series of books.
The Conjuring had a feel of old school horror thats hard to mimic. Enjoyed every second of this one.

Insidious-9/10 love this movie, the blu-ray is incredible. Wanted to watch the 1st chapter cause I have part 2 on the way from Amazon. Also ordered Prisoners.

We need a disike button :D

Carrie (2013) - 4/10

Not all that great. Chloe Moretz IMO doesn't suit the role at all. The ending was eye roll worthy too. Julianne Moore was good as the Bible freak nutter though.

American Hustle - Good
Another very well done movie by David O. Russell. I'm a big fan of all of his work with Three Kings being by favorite. American Hustle keeps you engaged until the very end and creates a connection and caring between the viewer and the characters. I ended up invested in wanting the correct outcome for each character. There really wasn't a character I didn't want to see have their story come to a conclusion. It was very well written, and improvised, and the acting was some of the best of the year by everyone involved especially Christian Bale and Jennifer Lawrence. I would hand the Oscar for leading actor to Bale right now but I thin it's FINALLY DiCaprio's time. Chiwetel Ejiofor MAY sneak it in but I think DiCaprio gets it.

Awesome to hear as I'm going out to watch this tonight.

I haven't watched anything of Russell's since The Fighter, which I thought was crap. I'll probably check out AH when it is on Netflix.

Anyway, watched a few movies this week, none I really feel like getting into, but I can say they're all worth watching.

Medium Cool, Frances Ha, and Girl Model.

I'm looking forward to watching Upstream Color and Computer Chess this week.

Watched Upstream Color last night. Still trying to gather my thoughts on it

WOW....really ?

I thought the Fighter was awesome. Easily Mark Whalberg's best performance and Melissa Leo, Amy Adams and most noticeably Christian bale were great. Only place I thought it fell a bit short was Choreography. Especially in the last fight of the movie. Everything else was very very solid.

I wanted to post this, but couldn't think of an appropiate spot without creating an entirely new thread. I suppose there might've been an WoWS thread, but I didn't look. Cool edit though.

Blue what the hell is wrong with The Fighter? Great movie with some award winning acting.

The Wolverine - 7/10 it was better than the first. Was entertaining and a good rental. Hugh is always great as Wolverine. Did get kinda dumb though towards the end. Better first half. I hope the new X-Men film turns out good.

The Wolf of Wall Street - Good

The Wolf of Wall Street is a major departure for Scorsese. While the movie is a drama it's by far his most comedic. I would say the movie is half drama and half comedy. I was surprised by that as that's not his norm. Sure, Scorsese has never shied away from comedy in his movies but The Wolf of Wall Street goes way beyond anything he's done in the past. It works very well in the film's world. DiCaprio was out of control with his acting. He played the part of Jordan Belfort to an absolute T. He was over the top and energetic. Jonah Hill was equally as over the top in his role as Donnie Azzoff.

Sex and drugs are abound in The Wolf of Wall Street. Every second someone is doing some drug or having sex anywhere. The film is a parody of Wall Street in the 80's and turns the absurdity of to the 100th degree. There's nothing to really learn from the film. You watch it for the story as with most Scorsese films. It's a movie that's for pure entertainment and nothing more. You won't leave the theater a changed person or left with many lingering questions. The movie is what it is, a spectacle of sex, drugs and money. It's no Wall Street (1987) but it's not trying to be.

sounds perfect, might see it tonight

Hunger Games

8/10, just got around to watching it and I really liked it surprising, a couple of cringeworthy moments but very good. I went into it not really knowing much about the film's story so it was a surprise.

Prisoners - 9/10thought it was a really good movie plus i enjoy this type of killer/cop/thriller. Great cast and acting all around. Only thing i did not like is the ending WTF!

Well i read an interview today with the writer from when the movie first came out. After reading why they went with that ending and me thinking about it more guess it is a fitting ending.

Inside Llewyn Davis - Undecided
I'm not sure how to rate this move. On one hand I was bored on the other hand, towards the end, the movie made more sense. I think I need to think about it more before I actually give it to school. It's definitely the Coen brothers least accessible film. I heard an older couple say, "I don't get it. We should have seen something else." Movie looked good the acting was well done and the soundtrack, for what it is, was pretty good. I expect Oscar nominations for best original song like it us at the Golden Globes.

Fast and Furious 6 - 8/10 put your brain on cruise control. Was a dumb fun summer action blockbuster i enjoyed it. Even though that is the longest runway ever lol. Enjoyed this and Fast 5 looking forward to the next one with the new kick ass villian. Will not be the same without Walker maybe they will bring in a new character.
