What movies have you seen recently?

American Hustle

I am finding it hard to rate to rate this this movie. The movie itself I didn't think was all that great. The story as a whole is a mess. Although I did love the over dramatic rose tinted view of the 70's with all the hair and over elaborate music which is more how people remember it and not really how it was.

You have to give it to Russel though. He knows how to get top notch performances from his actors, and that for me is what is great about this movie. The acting showcase. While the overall story is a mess, the writing for the characters is great and the acting out of them even better. Bale and Adams were awesome as the main duo and cooper shows yet again that he is a quality, serious actor. Jeremy Renner also did a great job. For me though, Jennifer Lawrence stole it. Her portrayle of Rosalyn Rosenfeld was flawless.

I can see this being one of those movies people even like or hate, but everyone will agree that the acting on show is of the very highest caliber.

Loved the ending.

Was a cop out. Every thing up to it was great. I'm really not sure why they chose to do it.

IMO it would have been better for him not to be heard and to be damned for his actions.

Why would you want him to be punished? Of course the movie doesn't sympathize with Keller, but it does not villify him neither. His solutions are wrong, but his doubts are repeatedly supported by many clues, so at least I could understand why he was doing it, and the truth was simply frustrating for me as well. In the end he has to go to jail, but he is more like a victim of his own judgment rather than just a stupid guy who deserves it.

Inside Llewyn Davis - Undecided
I'm not sure how to rate this move. On one hand I was bored on the other hand, towards the end, the movie made more sense. I think I need to think about it more before I actually give it to school. It's definitely the Coen brothers least accessible film. I heard an older couple say, "I don't get it. We should have seen something else." Movie looked good the acting was well done and the soundtrack, for what it is, was pretty good. I expect Oscar nominations for best original song like it us at the Golden Globes.

Least accessible? Hmmm interesting. My friend had only seen Burn After Reading and didn't know what to make of it, so I asked him to give the Coens another chance... so then he watch A Serious Man and hated it so he's sort of sworn off them now haha. He won't even listen to me when I say "No really, Fargo is great! Really!"

Oh well, his loss I guess.

I really liked A Serious Man and Inside Llweyn Davis is far less straightforward. Most people will find it utterly boring. I was bored with it until the end scene but I'm not sure that will make me love it. I need to see it again when it comes home. I think it will end up as my least favorite Coen brothers film. I've enjoyed every film they've made thus far. Inside Llweyn Davis, not so much.

Barton Fink was my least favorite yet more accessible I guess and yes, I like John Goodman ….but…every….single…f***ing….movie….

well that sucks because I was looking forward to it and was hoping for a folksy O brother…

however..

It won the Grand Prix and the the 2013 Cannes Film Festival where it received rave reviews from critics

might still go see it, but maybe I should take some upstream color worms with me

It's folksy but it's nowhere near O' Brother as that's one of my favorite Coen brothers films. Inside LLewyn Davis is VERY dry, slow and depressing. The humor is so subtle that at times it doesn't come off as funny. I have a hard time deciding between O' Brother and No Country as my second favorite. The Big Lebowski is my favorite.

Need to see A Serious Man. Last Coen Bros flick I saw was True Grit. Honestly though, ILD doesn't look all that appealing to me.

I would say his actions take him far away from "Victim of his own judgement" and place him firmly in the realm of Villain. While his initial action of confrontation was understandable. His decision to incarcerate and torture go far beyond the reasonable.

Going on a grief fueled vigilante quest for justice and believing these actions are above reproach should have resulted in dire consequences, IMO.

He was going to jail if he was found. He was going to pay for his actions. Not death but he was going to pay.

The Way Way Back - 7/10 wife rented this tonight. She really liked it. I thought it was ok. I liked Little Miss Sunshine more.

Ain't Them Bodies Saints - 9/10 rented this today thought it was damn good. Enjoyed the cast and the music score. Kinda like a modern setting western. Glad i found it in Red Box I knew nothing about it.

I was 0 for 2 tonight. Tried to watch El Infierno but it wasn't subtitled and my spanish is not good enough so i started to watch Solomon Kane which was so bad in the first 10 minutes I had to tun it off.
So I started to watch the Syfy premiere of Helix and that was ok but still a little disappointing. probably won't continue to watch it

Spoiler Battle of the Gods DBZ, Man of steel.

Dragon Ball Z Battle of the Gods. Yeah I still watch cartoons. Vegeta went all out when the "God of destruction hit Bulma" I don't know any Japanese, but man I can't wait until it comes to the states.
Non cartoon Man if steel. I liked it. Hopefully it will play out as Batman trilogy, and the 2nf will be a lot better. Kinda of slow, but man when that fire engulfed him. I forgot I was watching a movie for like 10 seconds.

How do I do that.

And about the end of Prisoners

the writer said in an interview that Jake gets Jackman out of the hole and he does go to prison for what he did. They felt why show that happen.

Lone Ranger - 6/10 was a decent summer blockbuster. Not as bad as some said its a fun movie and Depp was good. Only thing is it is too long for what it is some of it could have been shorter.

Promise Land - Average
Boring, preachy story. Good cast and good work by all players though. Take it or leave it.

May be seeing Her tomorrow.

Tucker and Dale vs Evil
5/10
situational comedy is best in smaller doses. some of it was fun though.

Ip man : the final fight

7/10

No where near as good as the ones with donnie chen

The Wolf Of Wall Street - 8.5/10

Thought it was Pretty damn good. I was in stitches at the...

Lemon Lude scene at the country club:laugh::laugh:

Di Caprio was great and Matthew Mcconaughey was great despite his very short involvement.
