What movies have you seen recently?

Really happy with this sequel. Goes in a different direction while still having the same vibe and adding to the "creep" mythos. 2 fun movies, I should have watched them both a while ago!

I didn’t know a sequel came out. I liked the first movie.

Venom - Average

Not as bad as reviews made it out to be. Definitely squandered though.

I'd give it 3.5 / 5
Other than running up the tower there weren't really any cool superpower things he did.
The final fight scene at night was kind of a dark blurry mess.
Venoms voice was perfect though.

It was more of a character introduction rather than a full story arch.

Venom: Amazingly average. It was a throw back to old super hero movies and would've been so much better as a rated R movie. The beginning was boring but it picked up.

Pumpkinhead - On Amazon Prime at the moment. Monster still creeps me out. Crazy this was rated R, probably could put the whole thing on broadcast TV these days without editing.

Halloween 5: The Revenge of Michael Myers - Definitely one of the lower (if not lowest) points in the original franchise.

Have you seen In The Mouth of Madness?

Yeah, a few times, but it's been a little while. It popped up on Shudder a month or two back, and quickly disappeared again a month later. I was expecting it to stay around longer, never got around to watching it.

Apostle - Crazy new Netflix movie from Gareth Edwards (writer / director of the Raid movies). Strange cult on an island, a man trying to hide among them to rescue his sister, creepy gods, violence, beautiful locations, great cast, weirdness on top of weirdness. Not without its problems, but it was pretty enjoyable.

Murder Party - Fun low budget Halloween setting movie from the maker of Blue Ruin, Green Room, and Hold the Dark. It's on a few different streaming sites at the moment (Netflix, Shudder).

Trick R Treat - Finally had a chance to check out the new Scream Factory collectors edition release. The transfer looks great, and the new bonus features are really great. I particularly enjoyed the FEARnet shorts and 4 new making of interviews. Definitely worth double dipping if you're a fan of this movie. Such a great Halloween movie.

Phenomena - Great soundtrack, great cinematography, tons of weirdness. Certainly not one of the best Argento films, but still extremely entertaining. I can definitely say I've never seen a movie with an ending like this one! ;)

Creepshow - I lucked out and received my new Scream Factory Collector's Edition Blu early, got to watch it today. It's a great set. Great packaging, great transfer, great new features. This will definitely be a fun item to enjoy in October. Well worth the money.

The Haunting (1963) - A mixed bag. A lot of the scares still hold up, a lot of the rest does not. Good creepy house and sounds, annoying characters and writing.

The Exorcist - First time seeing this, believe it or not. Tough to be scared by most of it now considering I've seen the majority of the scares parodied in so many different forms over the years. That said, it's an extremely well made movie with great cinematography (particularly outdoors) and direction. Funny to remember growing up in a very religious location, people would talk about this movie like it was the most terrifying thing to have ever been made, and that you might get possessed just watching it. Ha.

I just saw the newest Jurassic Park.

0/10

Worst movie ever made.

The writers and directors should be tried for war crimes. Holy **** was that a bad movie.

Halloween (2018 ) - Good

It’s been decades since I flinched at a movie other than a ball combing towards the camera or someone getting hit in the nuts. Halloween had one jump scare that got me to flinch a little bit. Bastards. I think everyone jumped.

Watched these over the weekend.

Solo: A Star Wars Story - 7/10 I had a good time watching it. Think I like Rogue One a little more. Woody Harrelson stole the show he fit in nicely in this universe. As for Ehrenreich at first I thought he didn’t have enough charm and charisma, by the end he grew on me. Was a fun ride not sure why so many people was mixed on this.

And that cameo at the end was awesome. Would love to see that character in a live action role again someday.

Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom - 7/10 Was entertaining. I would say I wanted more of the first half than the 2nd half. The island part looked amazing on my set.

New Netflix movie called The night comes for us

Holy crap just two hours of pure, brutal action. Like most of these types of movies you kind of have to suspend belief as the bad guys wait their turn to get beaten up and characters still walking when there's no way they should.

But great action, cool characters and fantastic final fight nearly on par with the raid

Venom was not horrible. Definitely has no connective tissue to the MCU, and it was super cheesy when it was taking itself too seriously, but it wasn't the trainwreck that I expected. If you liked Upgrade, you might find Venom somewhat decent.

We have very similar opinions on movies we both watch.

The Endless 7/10

I was in the mood for sci-fi / horror. This kind of fits that and they did a reasonable job with a low budget.

I just had a hard time connecting with the main characters.
