What type of game would YOU want to play in VR?

Yeah, so we have what sounds to be some good experiences with PlayStation VR. Resident Evil sounds really terrifying, and that SW Battlefront X-Wing mission sounds delightful. I'm currently waiting for a few more offerings to jump in.

My question is: what types of games lend themselves to the full-on experience? Bethesda seems to think open-world RPGs will be the de facto genre, and the head of AMD seems to think that Fallout 4 will be the next big thing.

How about a game like Crimson Skies? That could be really dizzying, but could it also be fun? What about something more like Pilotwings? You could have a level where you experience flying in a squirrel suit or something like that. I think that could get interesting.

Would a game like Sea of Thieves translate? What about some of Sony's 1st party offerings? Do you guys have something that you would really want to warp yourself into completely?

Mech Warrior. Now there was a game made for VR.
I got to play that Star Wars x wing mission on PSVR and it is so cool. There was so many great little touches to it like when you look down at your legs in the cockpit and you have the orange uniform on of a rebel pilot. I think there could be a whole series of Star Wars missions that would be good in VR, the battle of Hoth, attack on the Death Star, the battle of Scariff. Each one could have two view points, the rebel alliance and the empire.

I think if they could figure out a good way to do movement in a big Fallout type Rpg, I'd be into that.

Racing games, of course! Scorpio better give me my Forza in VR, damnit!

Really, any game where you are in a cockpit fits the bill very nicely. I LOVED the X-wing pilot thing for BF. There was magic in coming out of a lightspeed jump and watching the big ships come in around me. Then flying under and around said ships while looking out the side window. So awesome. Very few games make me involuntarily grin (Forza Horizon being another one of them!).

One of the biggest let downs from that X-wing experience as well as the RE7 demo is related to lack of wand support. It's pretty galling to be in VR and not be able to pick up whatever you want. It's still more immersive than playing on TV, but I wanted to reach out and look into the pot myself. I really hope MS adopts an Occulus or Vive Style hand controllers, because when those are used, the immersion increases dramatically.

Take that Get Away style game- just picking up the cigar and messing with the lighter is amazing.

The shooting range stuff is awesome as well. Anything where you can manipulate objects adds immersion.

A boxing game would be Sweet. I saw a vid on Youtube where someone made a low level one and it looked like great fun even if it was WIP.

War Thunder is on VR for PC and Ultrawings is like Pilotwings for VR on PC. War Thunder is fantastic. It's tough to play competitively though because mouse and keyboard is just an unfair advantage when gunning people down. But if you play the simulation mode it makes everyone be in first person mode, which evens out the playing field a lot. Check Out Eve Valkyrie too as that is similar just in space. It's on all VR systems.

I haven't played ultrawings yet but I've heard it gets boring fast as there is not a lot of content. But what is there is reall nice.

Hopefully at least Project Cars 2 will be VR on the scorpio as the original and sequel are on PC.

Yeah, I watched a demonstration for PC2, and it sounds amazing with the detail they are putting. I am not a fan of the First though (as it sucks with a controller). They did say that they put a lot of work into getting it to work right with a controller.

The type of game I want for VR is not so much a game as an alternate world that I can go in. So you would interact with VR people and then join games together from there. So you could hang out in a VR arcade that has mini games like pool, bowling, darts etc... It's a public place where you can meet your friends or strangers and then agree to play certain games. So I could be at the arcade and then jump into Fallout 4 VR coop from there with a friend. I'd have a friends list that shows their current locations and warp to them. There'd be private rooms and public etc.

Also outside there are shops like an Amazon store that you could go to and view things in VR to scale and order it in real life. Go to the stadium and see a real VR broadcast of the NBA champion with your friends, have your own home you can decorate from items you get from achievements in real games. Some kind of platform like this is going to be huge IMO. A way to connect all the dots.

Now, if we're talking about a game game. I'd like to see a giant version of GTA's online multiplyer missions. So you'd have driving/flying missions robbing banks etc. I think there'd be some really cool scenarios you could do in VR missions like that. So you could do a prison break where one guy is in prison and has to lock pick out of his cell, but it's up to the other team members to either go in quietly or guns blazing. You'd have a getaway driver and then you gotta get on a boat or something while fighting other cop boats. The boat breaks down and someone in the back has to use their VR motion controllers to fix it and use the pull string to start it back up. IDK, there's so many great untapped potential that we're just discovering.

Yeah, Mech Warrior is a good one.

On SW: Battlefront, maybe they should just hold off on the second, then translate the entire game into a VR treatment? I mean, don't rush it. This is why Fallout 4 sounds promising.

I think this strange contraption could be great for a certain type of game, as it frees up your hands for either wand or full hand capture. You control your character's movement with your feet, so you are free to interact with objects.

Oh, I'd totally be down for a virtuix(I think that's the name) Onmi. Be tough to store it though. You'd need a dedicated room.

I agree. That kind of thing is really interactive, but I could see that becoming more of an attraction or something for dedicated VR rooms. That's why I think this smaller gadget makes so much sense. You use it sitting down, so you just tip it forward to go forward, L or R to strafe, and it rotates to turn. I've had a very similar idea in my head, years ago. I just found out it's a real thing. This plus accurate hand tracking could be a fantastic experience that more people could afford.

Dead Space would work wonders in VR.

Or a scuba diving game. All the joy of seeing the fish and crap, without the unpleasantness of dealing with the ocean/people who work on boats.

The Ocean Dive "experience" in VR Worlds is pretty neat.

Right now Resident Evil is the one I'd want to play the most in VR. Beyond that any horror games would be nice especially first person. Close second would be space combat games like Elite Dangerous or mech combat games. It's about time for a new Mech Warrior, Chromehounds, and Armored Core. Racing games would also be nice.

Ooooh, or that mech game on the og Xbox that had a controller with 200 buttons and switches!

Although I guess it would need AR so as you could actually see the controller...

Original Steel Battalion. Yep.

Obvious choice of VR. Start with P, & end with an N. Isn't it obvious

Who wouldn't want to play Pacman in VR.
