Where's valves steambox?

Apparently they're going to make an announcement next week. Everybody is speculating it is the steam box.
 
It'll come out after next gen consoles have released, and they'll lose 97% of the potential consumer base they would have had, had they launched it in the last 12 months.
 
Yeah I just listened to his speech at LinuxCon. Next week we will hear something regarding the steambox. I'm very interested to see what it is. Would love to have one hooked up to my home theater.
 
My guess is that Gabe Newell kept eating the prototypes, so they just scrapped the idea.
 
Unless Gabe has bought a clue or 2 it's going to be a vanilla Linux box with Steam installed.

Epic failure. I really don't think Gabe understands general consumers.

Linux core with a Steam UI would be possibly successful but even that is going to depend on the price of their hardware... Which Gabe also needs a clue on. He actually said they'd start by only creating a few thousand units.

Do you even economies of scale Gabe?
