Who won E3 2018?

Which company had the best E3?

Honestly the thing that interests me most about any E3 is hearing what actual players say about games they got to try hands on. Hearing people talk and see streams from D2 Forsaken, BF V, Anthem, that's what interests me.

When it comes to canned presentations I'm naturally skeptical. Take a game like Anthem, you could describe a lot of games that way and have it sound way better than it really is (not picking on that game in particular, it might be good).

What does it mean to win E3?

Is who has the best conference? That would be MS
Is it who showed the best games at their conference? That would be Sony
Do you have to have a conference? If not then it might be CDPR or Capcom

It's the first one.

I chose MS but I liked Ubi also, followed closely by Sony...Bethesda was ok but we knew about all of their games, thanks to stupid leaks and what not,and who did not think ES 6(or Skyrim 2) was coming lol...launching next gen game, like Oblivion was to the 360(except on both consoles, maybe even Switch).

As for Nin,well dont have a Switch yet, planning on getting one at somepoint but they spent a lot of time on Smash and no Metroidnews whatsoever was disappointing.A good E3 all around but not as spectacular as some years...guessing it will be the same next year.

1.Sony. The Last of Us 2 was enough. But there was more.
2. Microsoft. No exclusives and no Below still. But an excellent show with all the best third party stuff looking best on that platform. Studio acquisitions were nice, really hyped for Ninja Theory. Plus Ori 2 looks amazing.
3. Bethesda.Fun show. Love their vibe.
4 Ubi.
5 Nintendo. Just a meh from me.
6. EA. Terrible show

Best Games of E3

1. Cyberpunk 2077
2. Ghost of Tsushima
3. Dying Light 2
4. Battlefield V

Overall I thought E3 was fun this year. Usually I find it to be a letdown. Best takeaway is that the games industry is recovering from their loot box illness and focusing on a nice balance of games. The Microsoft conference, while not showing a ton of exclusives, did highlight the health of the industry with single and multiplayer games from all genres with art and stories from different parts of the world. It feels like publishers have caught on to the narrative from the gaming enthusiasts.

For the first time in many years, the big 3 all look confident at the same time.

The only conference that felt terrible was EAs.

Only real disappointment of the show was lack of Splinter Cell. First time the Walmart leak let us down.

I know what you mean...doesn't help when games like Anthem don't really show anything substantial. I am still not fully convinced by the game yet.

Problem is, gamer's tend to be very positive when they play something new...but after the newness wears off is where the truly good games keep impressing.

Wait, we won E3, so where do I collect the prize money?

Dying light 2? Really?

Didn't come away thinking much of it besides "Look, chris avellone!". But if this means quality writing can truly help sell a game with todays lackluster narratives, more power to them.

Microsoft for me. It was the only one I was invested in from start to finish. Not even Nintendo could hold my attention.

Let's see. Sony showed games that i want and they all looked great so they won in my book. Microsoft had a good games show, but not a good show to convince me that anything has really changed. They showed more Halo, Gears, Forza and half the studios they signed already make games for them. There's nothing coming of substance this gen, that's clear. They are set for the future though, if they fund those studios properly. I'll remain skeptical until i start seeing the results.

Even though Nintendo spent 25 minutes on one game i still think they had the second best show. Again, they showed something that i wanted that's actually coming in the next year. Smash Bros. Ultimate is going to be awesome. Wanted to see Metroid but if it's not ready then i can understand why. No reason to show games early. Unless you're Microsoft i guess. Everything they showed is 3 years away and they canceled or delayed their entire 2017 lineup. Funny how the shoe is on the other foot now.

So Nintendo shows one game (an existing ip, no less) and you are all good, but MS shows at least 4 existing IPs (with both Gears 5 (unexpectedly) and Horizon 4 looking completely awesome, existing or no) with Halo looking to be moving in a new direction and Crackdown looking improved- along with dozens of interesting 3rd party and some really cool looking indies, and THEY'VE shown nothing substantial... ok...

Gears, Forza, Halo, and Crackdown. Four franchises that no longer move the needle for a lot of people.

No, I counted those people. My statement is still correct.

Those games are still big games that millions of people love. Just because they aren't on your list of approved titles doesn't make them irrelevant.

They are for their audiences as much as smash bros is. Smash ain't gonna "move the needle" any more than those titles.

My statements weren't about moving needles, anyway, they were about the hypocritical measurement he was using.

Nah.

You're just getting overly defensive because he isn't interested in the same old franchises from Microsoft.

The language he uses is very much that of his opinion.

We wouldn't have much to talk about if being an opinion shielded every comment from criticism.

He made a statement based in criteria that belied his own support for something else.

You can't denigrate one company for showing established franchises and the laud one for promoting established franchises. Liking one over the other is not the same thing.

Not only that, but the company denigrated showed far, far more support for their platform. That's my issue with the reasoning. I don't give two s***s if he preferred Nintendo offerings. More power to him.

No, this doesn't check out.

He said he preferred Nintendo's show because at least they provided him with one game he was looking forward to. A super rational, opinion based take.

You took issue with that because you seem hyper sensitive to anything Microsoft related.

Lay down your arms. The war is over.
