Who won E3 2018?

Which company had the best E3?

No, I counted those people, with one hand...not including my thumb. My statement is still correct.

Fixed ;)

But in all seriousness, out of the exclusives shown, I’m excited for halo, fz, death stranding and dreams.

I’ll be honest, tlou does nothing for me, first one the story was cool even if I’ve seen that concept in many movies, it’s just uncharted on a more linear and focus with a intriguingly good story, touch you may say.

Or I guess cos it’s third person and never been a much of a fan towards 3rd person games. Rarely if ever would get out of first person mode in oblivion, which is why I’m stoked for cyberpunk.

“But Sir Karma” you say “metal gear and death stranding are third person games, what say you?”. “Oh young padawan, ‘tis of the mind from Kojima, you know that shiz gonna be mental.” I tenderly reassured you as I point to the art books I’ve.

No, this doesn't check out.

He said he preferred Nintendo's show because at least they provided him with one game he was looking forward to. A super rational, opinion based take.

You took issue with that because you seem hyper sensitive to anything Microsoft related.

Lay down your arms. The war is over.
Bulls***, but I expect a lack of reading comprehension from you. You are so deep in your biases that I'm not surprised by your defense.

If i seem defensive of MS it's because of hypercritical dick-sheaths that pop up everywhere.

Bull****!!

So Nintendo shows one game (an existing ip, no less) and you are all good, but MS shows at least 4 existing IPs (with both Gears 5 (unexpectedly) and Horizon 4 looking completely awesome, existing or no) with Halo looking to be moving in a new direction and Crackdown looking improved- along with dozens of interesting 3rd party and some really cool looking indies, and THEY'VE shown nothing substantial... ok...

Yup, that's how it works. Sony and Nintendo have games that i want now that look amazing and Microsoft simply doesn't. So Sony wins, like always. This makes it 10 straight years that they've won E3 for me. I mean, it's no surprise since i favor PS to begin with but i think even if you're being true to yourself as a gamer you have to give Sony the nod. Year in and year out they get it done.

What do you feel like Microsoft showed that's of any substance and coming in the next 2 years. Just Horizon 4, i guess? Aren't you guys getting burned out on racing games by now and want something fresh? I just don't get it. Halo, Gears, Forza, and a bunch of third party games also coming to PS4. That's all they showed.

That was so good I could kiss you.

Was it though?

For many many people, Gears is well past it's expiration date as a franchise and is in need of either retirement or a God of War style reboot. The Halo trailer was only an engine demonstration. Horizon 4 is a racing game that's getting long in the tooth and only appeals to a certain audience to begin with. Crackdown might look better than last year but it still looks like poo. You can't really rave about games that the industry is going to look back on and say "meh" after they release can you?

This E3 did nothing for the current XBox. Microsoft is committing to the franchises that got them in their current position in the first place.

You've got to be somewhat cognicent of the fact that there are plenty of people put off by the Gears, Forza, Halo grind of the past 10 years.

The best thing about Microsoft's conference was it's pace (thanks to a bunch of multiplatform games) and the studio aquisitions announcements.

Stop you play fortnite bra.
Gears is still kicking ass and the new one kinda is a reboot.

I hear ya about wanting more than the triple threat gears/halo/forza but its going to take time...Overall they have been fixing the situation pretty well considering how bad it was so they deserve some credit.

That was factually the worst opinion I have read at this website.

Nintendo gets a pass for whatever reason. Since I got the awesome Zelda and Mario Odyssey, my Switch has been sitting in a drawer for a few months.

Now Nintendo is back to showing games that saw the Wii U fail.

nintendo almost always gets a pass from the gaming community. i think mostly because folks for some reason don't count ninteno in the console race.

I'm playing through Zelda right now and it's great! The sense of place is awesome despite the paper thin lore. I love how many details it has for such a stylized game.

I got through about half of Odyssey before losing interest. I'll get around to finishing it eventually...

Outside of those I have trouble caring, but as I said before- people like what they like. I just find the double standard laughable.

I have the same fears for Switch that I've had for the last several Nintendo platforms. Early support, then nothing but Ninty games coming out every couple years...

"its," not "it's." I'll waive the ban. Remember, "it's" is a contraction of "it" and "is." "It's" = "it is." Always.

If you want to know whether you're using "it's" correctly, here's a simple way to check. Just read the sentence out loud, substituting "it is" for "it's." You'll be able to hear whether it's the right choice.

For instance, your sentence above would read, "The best thing about Microsoft's conference was it is pace." "It is pace?" That doesn't sound right or make any sense. So, that's an incorrect use of "it's."

Another example, my sentence above: "You'll be able to hear whether it is the right choice." Makes sense. Correct use.

Yeah, I notice that a lot on Resetera. It's like no matter what they do, Nintendo gets fawned over. I just attribute it to the fact that GAF/Era has always been very pro-Nintendo. I suppose you're right, though, that it's not just Era; it's a broader phenomenon.

Maybe people are giving them a break because the Switch has been such a happy success so far, especially compared to the Wii U? Maybe fans are still sort of riding the initial high from last year, and they don't want to be too critical quite yet. Maybe it'll take a couple years of drought before you start to hear the negativity.

Nintendo's always bringing us fresh, new IP like "Mario and his new gameplay mechanic" or "Smash Brothers" or "Pokémon Some Color" and "Pokémon Some Other Color, Buy Us Both" or "The Legend of Zelda: Stop Me if You've Heard This Before" or...

With that said, of course, a lot of their IP is awesome, even if most of it does predate the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Nintendo gets a pass because they haven't been for forefront of gaming since SNES. Since then, core gaming, third party games, features, online and the most games come out on Xbox or PS systems.

It's like a BMW and Mercedes owner debating which is better. Both similar class, and similar enough in terms of features, price and performance.

They will butt heads all day, but each one of them won't care, and will probably agree that a 1990s Mazda Miata is a fun car even though it's 1/3rd the price, half the horsepower, and doesn't compare to current class of cars.

Yes, and the argument is also that apparently: quality, existing IPs are less important than new IPs that are new...

I don't see how MS won,. They shown a lot of great game, but most are multi platform on matter the wordplay they use like 'Launch exclusive" & "Exclusive world premiere", & the real exclusive are the usual suspects, like Gears, Halo & Forza.

They showed 50 games that we can play on our Xbox. They showed that they have marketing exclusives for many more third party games. They showed that they are finally getting us Japanese games that people have been begging for. They showed 3 new Gears of War titles. They showed a new Forza Horizon title, which is coming off of a wildly successful Horizon 3 from 2 years ago, they showed a new Halo that is being re-imagined (and not milked like gamers have asked), they announced they that have 5 new first party studios that gamers have asked for....which will be making new games and IPs, they announced that Playground games (which they purchased) new 2nd development team is making a new open world RPG (most likely Fable), just confirmed is Undead Labs will have huge financial support to make State of Decay bigger and better than ever, Ninja Theory has an open checkbook and no MS intervention on new games. developed a new Santa Monica studio from the ground up. They bought Compulsion (makers of Contrast and We Happy Few) which will also being making new IP's for Xbox).

They also said it will take 2-3 years before they can even debut new games as it takes awhile. Hard for them to come out with 5 new purchased studios and say, here are 5 new games we are making. They were told to never pull a Scalebound again, so they are listening.

I can tell you based on this E3, my Xbox One X will be working overtime with many of those 50 games they announced, and I am excited for what new games that Playground Games, Undead Labs, Compulsion, Ninja Theory and The Initiative will bring us. I am also excited about the new Halo direction, and apparently Gears 5 is getting some solid changes. Forza Horizon 4 with seasons is looking epic.

On the Sony machine, from what I saw at E3, I am looking forward to Ghosts of Tsushima. The only other game that interested me actually wasn't even shown at their E3, which is Days gone .

It's all perspective. Not to mention, it really depends on what gaming machine you want to play 3rd party games on. I have always played my 3rd party games on Xbox because that is where my friends and family are. Now that I have the Xbox One X, I will still be playing with friends and family, and I will happen to have the best possible performance and graphics for those titles.

The above is IMO

If Microsoft won it should because of the studios they acquired and not because they showed a bunch of games I can play on PS4

If Sony or MS won, they should have won YOU as a gamer, not winning because others said they won. Granted I never watched the Nintendo feed, so I have no idea how they did.

Well, Nintendo got zero votes, so they didn't do very well, at least here.

I don't see how MS won.

I think that's mostly down to two things:

1. Five studio acquisitions
2. Better presentation (more content, better pace)

If Microsoft won it should because of the studios they acquired and not because they showed a bunch of games I can play on PS4
Same can be said for Sony. Naughty Dog, Sucker Punch, Guerrilla Games and Media Molecule were all independent devs who Sony bought. Sony bought a lot more studios years back too, but disbanded some of them since.

I think the only big name Sony games left done in house from the beginning are GT, God of War, TLoU, and their baseball game.

I don't understand your point. That wasn't a criticism.

Just read through the console battling discussions I missed the past couple weeks. I’d like to reiterate that the best thing about this E3 is it showed gaming in its healthiest state in years. The only time we heard about lootboxes...were apologies about lootboxes. Single player...Multiplayer...All 3 consoles are players. 3rd parties hitting a high point. Sony continuing their high point with 1st party single player games. Microsoft back in the game with new studios and freshening up their classic IPs. While I agree Nintendo gets off the hook, they are getting better 3rd party support and their nifty device is still a nice alternative way to play a lot of smaller games (in a practical non gimmicky way for the first time in 3 generations).

Usually one of the big 3 looks sick. None look sick. There’s more ish to play than anyone with a job who values some excercise and/or social experiences outside of gaming will ever have time to play.

Gamers are winning.
