Nintendo Plans New Version of Switch Next Year
Updated console isn’t expected to adopt the OLED panels used in Apple’s iPhone X series

TOKYO—Nintendo Co. plans to release a new version of its Switch videogame console next year to maintain the sales momentum of the device, according to suppliers and others with direct knowledge of the plan.

Sales of the Switch, introduced in March 2017, are still solid but are no longer delivering the favorable surprises that marked the machine’s first year on the market. Nintendo shares, which rose sharply last year, have trailed the broader stock market this year. The move to update the Switch suggests the Kyoto, Japan company is moving quickly to ensure its flagship product doesn’t lose competitiveness.

Nintendo is still debating what new hardware and software features to include in the upgrade and weighing the cost of the features, people with knowledge of the discussions said.

No comment from Nintendo.

Could be interesting. Ideally, I'd love an update that improved resolution and performance, but I have no idea if that is in the works. It could just be tinkering around with the thumbsticks or the size of the unit somehow.

An inch bigger and oled is all I want. If no oled, not interested tbh. Would love higher res but have a hard time seeing them being able to do that at this point.

Meh, I don't care. They need more worth while games to play, too many Wii U ports and pointless 5-15 dollar indies.

I'll consider a purchase if they upgrade the resolution or performance. I guess we'll have to wait to see what they have planned.

Wii U ports don't bother me, since I didn't own a Wii U.

"Too many pointless indies" applies to all the consoles, though.

The first of many hardware revisions coming for the Switch i'm sure.

Look at the DS and 3DS, lol. s*** got wild real quick.

Yea but the amount of pointless indies on the Switch GREATLY outweighs worth while games. It's like a 6-1 ratio.

Could we get a built in microphone so gamers can use voice chat without getting tangled up in a ball of wires?

Maybe. The proportion of "pointless indies" is pretty high for all consoles.

In any event, I judge a console on whether it has the stuff I want. It doesn't matter a whole lot to me whether it's got stuff I don't want. I just ignore or don't use that. For instance, if a console has 6 games I want to play, and it's got several hundred game I don't want to play, it's the 6 that will make the difference for me, not the several hundred.

Problem is switch store is a cacafoni of indies, they're everywhere and it's impossible to sort without them popping up and making it hard to find the real games. It's possible to blame Nintendos lack of online skills perhaps, but considering they bragged about putting 30ish games a week in the store, it's definitely going to outweigh the good, real games.

Don't they separate indies from full games in the store, or are they all lumped together?

Lump as far as I know, been trying to search for some kind of sort options for that but if it exist, they did a terrible job making it findable. Would be typical Nintendo if so.

That's screwed, if they just lump all the games together, without any way to sort them.

The eShop is a mess. It is not category based and just throws everything together. If you're not looking for a specific game, it is easy to miss it.

Well, presumably they'll improve it over time.
