Looks like they are finally making some needed changes to the game. Sadly they are still doing the pre-order bonus character thing, this year it's Kurt Angle. Commentary is now handled by Cole, Saxton and Graves which is great (well it would be if Cole wasn't doing it lol) but Lawler and JBL always sounded awful doing this so I'm glad they've been replaced.

Incorporating years of fan feedback to the upcoming title, including a substantial change in its visuals and mechanics, 2K claims that WWE 2K18 is the most realistic and comprehensive wrestling game to date. Unfortunately, the developers weren't able to share too many details about the game in its present state, but they did give us a rundown on the general features and upgrades coming up. With a reworked graphics engine, new modes and story for MyCareer, an expanded creation suite, 8-Man battles and match types, and enhancements to the grappling system--WWE 2K18 is looks to be a big change for the series.
Presentation was one of the key areas that the developers--a collaboration between Visual Concepts and Yuke's--wanted to focus on. For starters, WWE 2K18 will feature an updated graphics engine, which the developers claim went through a substantial rewriting process over the last two years. It now features dithered rendering, new skin shaders, real time reflections, and physically based rendering--all of which will add greater elements of realism to the characters, while also giving a much stronger atmosphere to the many environments. From the technical demo we saw, which unfortunately featured the new lighting and post-processing effects paired with older character models from 2K17, the game does look noticeably improved over the last title.
One area which they acknowledge wasn't up to par in 2K17 was the in-game commentary, which is also being overhauled. Working with the NBA 2K team, which is known for its authentic commentary quality, WWE 2K18 brings in Michael Cole, Byron Saxton, and Corey Graves as the lead commentators. To give it a more organic feel, the three commentators were given extra time to work, and also had the chance to perform in the same room as their co-commentators to lend the recording process more of a natural feel.[/QUOTE

If the controls are the same... the game series will continue to suck until they fix them.

It looks like they are making changes to gameplay in some respects, we'll see how it turns out.

I'll keep an eye on this, since not many games releasing this fall interest me. They'll add all these new modes and improve the graphics greatly, then ruin it all with awful controls and idiotic mini games during the match. I'm not a fan of getting certain characters by pre-ordering or buying deluxe/gold editions either.

Feels like every year the opening thread line is looks like they're finally making some needed changes. Then i respond and say cool, i'm a WWE fan and i'll check it out only to never buy the game, lol.

Just like all sports games, it just became redundant. In come the haters.. if you can even call it a sport! We'll see though. I long for the days of No Mercy and Here Comes the Pain.

I'm glad they'll most likely have guys like TJP and other cruiserweights in the game, being that they mention 205 live in the article I would only assume that a lot of those guys will make the roster.

I'm liking the trailers they are using, yeah it's live action but they are pretty cool concepts.

Rollins 2K17 model next to 2K18 model, I think it's a pretty nice improvement.

Definitely an improvement. They are still a tad behind on the actual skin shader (not seeing any SSS). The modeling is top notch, though, and the lighting and atmosphere looks better. Animation will be the key to selling them.

Haven't watched WWE in years but suddenly have an itch to play a good wrestling game. If you're not overly concerned with how accurately everyone is portrayed, how well does the fighting engine work?

It doesn't feel all that different than the older games, they've added some "chain grappling" mini games that I can't stand but those can be turned off. This year they are making more changes so not sure what if any true differences there will be.

Its TERRIBLE.

Get Fire Pro Wrestling World on Steam or PS4 instead.

A new dev diary with a little bit of entrance footage and some new screens, the graphics look like they've improved big time.

Rendering looks better, but I can't say I'm thrilled to see the recycled animation.

Yeah that's one thing that likely won't be touched for a while, they are always adding new ones though. One thing for sure, they need to fix that cross eyed look the guys they showed have, and the facial animations need to be improved. I'm guessing that stuff will be touched up before it releases though. I just hope the entrances keep a steady framerate, there have been times where they got a bit choppy, especially if you did a break out and went to attack someone during their entrance.

That intro scene could be mistaken for video! That said, there looks to be a serious inconsistency in the character model detail department.

The graphics do look quite a bit better, new gameplay clip.

It always bothers me that they are basically mimes. I need to hear some screams and grunts!

I really like how they animate the long hair. Too bad none of them seem alive. :(
