I pulled this off another site, but I figured there was enough info here for its own thread, and hopefully people can add to this:

- Stop apps/games running in the background - Hover on the app or game in the window on your home screen and press the "enter" (three lines) button on your controller. Head over to "quit" and it's done.

- During setup, crank up your speakers as loud as they can go during the mic calibration on the Kinect (until it says too loud). Then lower it until you get beneath the threshold.

- You can pause the installation/download of a game/app by pressing the Menu button when hovering over the tile.

- Some services that don't have native apps yet, like Pandora, work in Internet Explorer because they're built with HTML5.

- Pin websites to your home screen by pressing the Menu button when the tile is selected in Internet Explorer's address bar.

- Double tap the Xbox button to switch focus between a filled tiled and a snapped tile.

- If TV freezes or becomes distorted, return to the homescreen and select the active panel. Press the Menu button and select Quit. Then launch TV again.

- Plug your Xbox 360 into the HDMI in. You can chat and play games with your friends unfortunate enough not to get a One. Easy as saying "Xbox TV" and picking ip the other controller. Also you can wear a 360 compatible headset and play One games while chatting.

- After turning your room lights down the white glow on the console, kinect, and controller all dim down too.

- Plug in a USB keyboard before booting the Xbox One and bam! keyboard works!

- You can set up the Xbox One to control your AVR, it's just not in the OOBE. After configuring TV, go to settings, TV and add an AVR.

- Charge your controller by plugging the play and charge cable into the wall. only works with Xbox's rechargeable battery.

- This has been discussed in the press, but if you want to get surround sound via HDMI PT, go to TV settings, under Troubleshooting and enable that. it's currently in beta, so YMMV

- To rename your console to whatever you want by going under settings, system

- Obvious one, check the list of Kinect voice commands http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-o...voice-commands

- Another Obvious one, check the list of Kinect gestures http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-o...ommon-gestures

- Binding a controller: turn it on, make sure Kinect sees the front part of it and press the bind button on the front of the controller. Kinect will see that you're trying to bind a new controller and put the console in binding mode for you. No need to press the bind button on the side of the console, although that still works. Binding via a microUSB cable also works

- To control the party, Snap the Party app and from there you can control chat, invites etc. Remember that Kinect will work as your chat mic if no headset is plugged into the controller. If you do not want Kinect to be your chat mic, go to settings, Kinect and mute Kinect for chat

- To get rid of any snap tiles and go back to full screen say XBOX UNSNAP

The friends model on Xbox One changes, there is no longer the need to accept friends request and you can follow anyone like on Twitter.

Some initial tips when setting up a system:

- I made a mistake at first when setting up. The system involves plugging in a power plug , ethernet plug (unless you do wi-fi... X1 didn't come with an ethernet cable like old 360), Kinect plug and a few HDMI cables (HDMI out, plus HDMI in if you want all that cable TV stuff). I thought my system was messed as it didn't work. But my mistake was turning it on before plugging in all the other cables. I then turned off the system, turned it back on and then everything worked

- When it first boots up and you see that big black controller on the scree asking to press the Xbox button on your controller, make sure to use the one the system came with. I bought the bundle pack with the extra controller + play charge cable and accidentally tried using this controller. It wouldn't recognize. I then put the battery in the controller that came with the system and it worked

- During the patch process, the system seems to go to a big green splash screen. Don't turn off the system or impatiently pull the plug or anything. The system is still doing it's thing. After a bit it will finish and reboot

- Game installs take a while due to it being 40gb discs. If a game being installed stays at 0%, wait it out. It may stay at 0% for a bit as the game may be downloading a patch first. Then it will install the game and you'll see it go to 1%, 2% etc.... CoD and BF4 each have 1.2gb patches you have to install

- Lots of free stuff to start out. Various apps, Kinect Rivals, Xbox Fitness, KI (Jago)

- For Killer Instinct, if you bought the better packs where you get KI Classic and are wondering where it is, you have to exit the game (quit), re-launch the game and it will prompt you to a new screen asking you if you want to download KI Classic

Mic calibration tricked worked wonders for me ... i can use a regular conversational tone now and the xbox seems to understand me with higher accuracy.

A question about:

During setup, crank up your speakers as loud as they can go during the mic calibration on the Kinect (until it says too loud). Then lower it until you get beneath the threshold.

I'm confused by the above are we talking about the Kinect mic? I spotted this and followed instructions in the initial setup Ie: volume is too low, so I put the volume up it went through fine, I accepted and then put the volume back down again.

I find myself shouting (moderate tone but still) when I want the Kinect to work, If I am not mistaken and I go through setup again (can someone tell me how I can do this again) and do the trick above can I then command the Kinect in a normal voice?

Would be epic if you can command xbox after the name you give.

Could be a simple software work.

1)Name your xbox, & pick that you want to use the name to replace 'xbox; for voice command.
2) Pronounce the name to Kinect, call out the names a few times, from softly to loudly, low to high pitch, so Kinect can record the range. More voice note can be added, should you want your partner/kids voice be added as well, for instance.
3)for the name recognition, test if it works by calling out the name. If Kinect can recognise within a satisfying % of time, go to next step, other wise, last step.
4) Click done.

Make sure you have a gift for the wife/gf when they pick the x1 up for you, takes their mind off their back ache after carrying it from the store.

thanks, great post. also, for the above.
1/ i'll give the volume up a go, but my tv gets friggin "loud".

2/ i had my xbox downloadin KI, Sports, Golf and it was installing Dead Rising 3 when i turned it off. a few hours later when i turned it back, games were downloaded and DR3 had installed.

3/ something i've not done with this xbox. i set up the system, switched it on, downloaded the update and started using the system. i have not pressed the bind button on the controller as yet and its working fine.

I may need to recalibrate the mic since my son's having a hard time being recognized. Hopefully that menu shutdown on the TV app will fix that problem so I can keep using the standby mode.

Turn the volume up on your TV or AV loud enough so that Kinect says its too loud during the calibration. Then take it down a notch and try again until Kinect stops complaining. Then continue the calibration setup as normal.

That trick about changing focus when you have something snapped was useful to me thanks.

Where do I go to calibrate the kinect again?

I can't actually do it since I've got it in TV mode for the three year old, but I think if you go to settings and then Kinect it should be there.

I did but it's not there. It's in reset tv settings. Thanks anyway.

Good read, might try the xbox mic thing but so far it works pretty good if i just talk a little louder then normal

How do i turn up and down the volume separately for my main screen and snap? I had the NFL app in snap last night testing it out and I had NO sound

"Xbox Select" is a lifesaver. I was having trouble with Kinect stop listening while viewing the guide and to get it to listen again I would have to back out of the guide. "Xbox Select" bring up the green wording on any screen you are viewing and then keeps listening for a command.

My controller went dysfunction on me once. Would not respond even though it was on. I tried to reconnect with the buttons and a usb but no luck, it would just not respond. Found the fix on Microsoft's support page - you have to unplug the XBO from the wall and plug it back in.

so a buddy at work said he read there is no way to adjust the volume when using snap, the sound plays equally on both screens. Why would it be like this? I really hope they update this soon, you need to be able to turn the volume up or down on each screen or this will be useless when watching tv or trying to listen to an app and trying to play a game

You can also download the characters from the KI store immediately after purchasing the updgrade pack. Just click on the character and select download.

do any of you know if I hook my cable box up to the Xbox will my cable tv still work like normal with my regular remote if the xbox is powered off but in low power/stand by mode? Or does the xbox need to be fully powered on?

I think it needs to be fully on. I was curious in this as well but didn't find a way to do it.

oh man, i wish i knew about the option to stop/cancel downloads on friday, this drove me nuts
