Don't know if this was posted already but here you....

Microsoft is moving to a free ad-supported streaming model for Xbox Music on the company’s upcoming Xbox One console. Albert Penello, Microsoft’s head of product planning for Xbox One, confirmed the change in a Twitter message earlier this week. It appears that Xbox One owners won’t need to subscribe to the Xbox Music service to stream music, but Penello says users "will get periodic ads." While the streaming is free, Xbox One owners will still require an Xbox Live Gold subscription to access the music app.

Existing versions of Xbox Music for Windows 8.1 and the web allow users to stream ad-supported music, but the current Xbox 360 version is restricted to subscribers. The change places the Xbox One version inline with Microsoft’s Windows and web variants, but it’s not clear whether Xbox 360 users will also get ad-supported access in future. We’ve reached out to Microsoft for additional details, and we’ll update you accordingly.

Already posted as part of the main Xbox One discussion thread.

And the other music topic.[the main xbox topic is a little crowded for all the news]

Anyways good news as its a solid service.

Sorry for creating another thread on this. Great news for sure.

Came to post how pleased I was to hear the news. Now here to call MS bastards. PR fail. Consumer-friendly fail. Fail.

Now I probably won't even use xbox music. I really wanted to too, but in my experience it isn't as good as competitors like Spotify.

MSoft's AP is such a moron. How can you work for a company and consistently get the messaging wrong about the biggest product launch in the history of your company?

It is actually quite painful to watch this from a distance.

Most people wont have even heard about this or care so its hardly a big c*** up.

Yep and hey at least you can listen to music on XBox One without paying a sub.

Not a big deal to me, but jesus, if you gonna post such big news, one would think you verify it first!

I too use Spotify just annoying we can't stream it through the XO.

Tell me about it. I really would love for Spotify to come to X1.
Me too mate but will never happen, they're rivalling with their music service so we've got no chance

Next best option a blue ray soundbar/stereo/surround sound.

You are absolutely correct. I just don't understand how a big company continues to step on itself when launching the most important product in the history of the company.

See, this attitude is what keeps them from greatness, IMO.

They want the living room to be the next digital frontier... oh, and open up the apps for W8 devs... but if they block the compitition, they will have failed. They need it open in the same way PCs and smart phones are. When you look at the gold paywall, if they are going to do that, then that paywall better be my ticket to freedom, not limited access!

Does anyone know if Netflix will be available day one? I think I read Youtube will be next year.

I find it hard to believe that the X1 is the most important launch in the history of MS.

The Xbox is MSoft's way to be able to deliver media to the living room which is super important now. Not one company has been able to capitalize on that outside of cable and satellite companies. If MSoft can be the center of entertainment in homes they will have the business market and consumer market on lock.

MSoft has poured billions into the Xbox and I truly believe that with a new CEO coming in Xbox has to be quick in gaining sales this generation if it is going to survive.
