XBox One gets first streaming live tv app - Skips HDMI in.

For a second I thought this was about buying channels solely through the app.. Something I actually want. :(

Downloaded this app last night since I have Fios. So far its working sweet. Hopefully other cable providers will release something similar.

Wouldn't personally find much use for this.. no DVR or time shifting = no TV watching for me.

Xbox One lacks the ability to control my Xfinity X1 DVR, but I've gotten used to it.

With the Xfinity phone app I can actually give the X1 DVR voice commands via my phone, for the commands that the X1 lacks.. or just use it as a remote.

Loving my setup, and as dorky as it sounds.. just having the ability to do the following:

Walk into my bedroom.. "Xbox On"... "Xbox TV".. watch some TV.. when I'm ready for bed.. "Xbox Off, Yes" .. go to sleep.. is awesome.

It's the little things.

Much faster to find the remote, switch on the tv, and change inputs. And you don't gotta worry about leaving your Xbox on for hours at a time. You can't browse the guide as fast without having a remote. I agree that using a remote is old school but it's still the best way. If you only watch a few channels it could see it working but if you search your entire catalog every time you really need a remote. Nothing is faster than hitting the page up button. Switching between voice commands, a controller, a remote, and a cellphone is just ludicrous when you could do everything faster with a remote!

Feeling slow... This was sarcasm right??? Right?!?!?

Agreed, doubt anything is going to replace my Harmony One. Whether I want to play Xbox, Wii, PS4, watch a Bluray, watch TV, each is one button press away.

That's just.. false. "Xbox On".. "Xbox Watch TV".. takes a few seconds.

I'm not worried about that.

I can use my remote with Xbox TV if I feel like it, I actually don't use Xbox TV for anything but turning it on and the few voice commands I use.. which are basically Pause, Play, Fast-forward, rewind, volume up, etc.

And why would I need to "switch between" things? If I have my remote near me but feel like saying "Xbox Volume Up" instead of reaching over and grabbing my remote.. I'm not switching between anything. And my phone app is a remote replacement, does everything the remote does.

I don't browse my guide very often at all on Xfinity, I'm not a channel changing TV surfer anymore. I mostly use my DVR and the search mechanism built into X1.

I find using Xbox TV for anything but the few commands I use awkward.. but I don't need to use all of it. Because of the design I can choose to use my remote if I feel like it, or use voice commands.

I really hope Comcast does this!! I want to use the TV feature but I do not like the idea of my Xbox always being on just to watch TV so I do not even have it hooked up that way at the moment. There is no way when I am not home and my fiancee or kids are watching TV I want my Xbox on.

Why are people so worried about their Xbox's being on?

I really don't watch that much TV, so it's not really extending my use of the device that much compared to gaming.

There is an Xfinity app for 360 that I use all of the time (for VoD since you can't do VoD with media center/cable card). I hope this releases on the X1 soon.

Waste of electricity and money. Why have and Xbox One and DVR running when you can just have one of them running for TV.

None of this even matters anyways until Microsoft can fix the widespread problems with the Xbox TV app. The picture size gets distorted, the guide gets distorted, the picture color gets distorted, and the font gets distorted on my current Comcast DVR. Watching TV on the Xbox One has some serious issues right now. It's my understanding that people are having the same problem with Tivo boxes as well.

well it should not be to long before you can get streaming TV serves on both PS4 and One. You got a few company's tiring to start up but issue is they get sued all the f***ing time by the big boys who are scared to death their cash cow is dying.

IPTV should be the future but content markers and the big tillcos won't allow it without a huge fight.

Drop in the bucket to me. The answer to "why" is: features.

None of it matters to people having problems, I'm certainly not having those problems though.

Not sure how widespread they are either, first I've heard of that kind of problem with the Xbox One.

I do not actually like the Xbox One Guide, or really any of the channel changing features.. in fact they are kind of a joke on the Xbox One with Xfinity X1. "Channel Up" causes the Xbox One to slowly type in the number of the channel above.. lol.. so if I'm on channel 500.. and I say that.. I get "5...0...1." with an annoying giant Xfinity menu popping up, and then eventually the channel changes. The X1 remote has a channel up button that doesn't do that.. so why can't Xbox One send the command?

I'm sure that might get worked out eventually.. but I really do only use it for the fairly simple commands.. Xbox On, Xbox Watch TV.. pause, play, fast-forward/rewind and the volume controls.

lol finding the remote, turning on the TV and switching inputs is faster than the Xbox booting alone. It only takes my TV a few seconds to boot and changing inputs is like 2 seconds. Then I browse channels faster than you can do, find a channel, and put the remote down. Watching TV is about finding something to watch ASAP and this can't be done faster without the use of a remote. If you only watch a handful of channels I could see this working for you, but for everyone else this is a huge step back ESP when it's as hard as it is to find something to watch nowadays.

No disrespect to you BunzHoles I really understand the appeal of not having a remote I just don't think it's there yet. I think with voice and gestures they can eliminate the need for a remote but that's a LOONNGG time away! And with the Xbox not knowing where you are in the guide or what channel your on, it will never be the same.

This is.. again, false. I can say "Xbox On" walking into my room.. the Xbox resumes from standby faster than my TV can display the image. Before I'd even have a chance to begin looking for my remote I'm watching TV.

Not that it's about the time it takes.. it's just really convenient. I use my remote when I need it as well. But having the ability to pause / play, turn on/off, and change volume is especially nice for my "in bed" usage.

Watching TV is about finding something to watch ASAP and this can't be done faster without the use of a remote.

And... I said.. I use.. my remote.. to find.. stuff.. to ... watch.

Can you comprehend it if I type slow? ;)

Everything I do with the Xbox One has nothing to do with finding stuff to watch.

Once I find something to watch.. it's nice to put the remote on my bedside table and be able to control volume and time shifting features with my voice.

No disrespect to you BunzHoles I really understand the appeal of not having a remote I just don't think it's there yet. I think with voice and gestures they can eliminate the need for a remote but that's a LOONNGG time away! And with the Xbox not knowing where you are in the guide or what channel your on, it will never be as efficient.

I said repeatedly I use my remote.. I've NEVER said Xbox One is a full remote replacement, in fact I've said the opposite.. until Xbox One can control my DVR/On Demand it's useless as a "remote replacement."

It's just a convenient add-on to my remote..

You can use your remote if you are using Xbox One.. you can't use the Xbox One.. if you aren't using Xbox One.

And it is a little disrespectful to a CONVERSATION to not actually read people's posts. I use a combination of the XBox One and my various ways to control my cable boxes (including the standard remote, and my X1 app.)

Example usage scenario in my house last night..

Before I even got into my bedroom, from my living room.. using the X1 app on my phone.. I had the TV show I was watching (Doomsday Preppers) playing on my bedroom X1 box, and paused.

Walk into my bedroom.. "Xbox On".. "Xbox Watch TV"... "Xbox Play".. and it's resumed in my bedroom.

Remote stayed on my bedside table all night untouched.. laid in bed.. my girl passed out, I was getting tired.. "Xbox Stop, Xbox Turn Off, Yes".. and I was done with my TV for the night.

Convenient.. does it solve some huge problem I have? No.. turning on my TV/changing inputs/using my remote/etc. was never the end of the world before.. and I still use my remote (and my X1 remote app) for a lot of things.. it's an extra layer of convenience.

Exactly. I live in a rather small apartment and many times after work I've opened my door, said Xbox On, and when I walk into my living room sure enough there's my X1 and TV turned on waiting for me.

This is complete bulsh1t. Leave your Xbox on in standby mode.... really dude? I say "Xbox on and all my sh1t turns on... period.... don't try to spin it.

Sounds to me that somebody does a complete shut down every time he turns the Xbox off....lolololol.

You turning on the tv and switching inputs is faster than me saying "Xbox On", it turning my tv and Xbox On and not needing to switch inputs? B S.

This is all before I even have my door shut and my jacket off, mind you. Sh*t is so cash.

Finding stuff to watch isn't hard, I don't watch many channels and that is a few words away from whatever channel (I don't know the actual channel #'s, theres like 1000 or so), but I can say "Xbox Watch AMC" or "Xbox Watch HBO".

Hey don't be so greedy with the drugs!

Xbox on!
*tv on*
*xbox one on*
*cable box one*

Remote not required.

Yeah, I agree about the guide - I really only ever use it if the remote's across the room somewhere and I want to see what's on Disney for the boys and it's spotty about picking the right Disney channel. The only channel changing feature I use is the voice command to tune to specific networks, and that's great in the morning - get up, head out into the living room, say "Xbox on" while I'm getting something to drink, tell it to watch tv and tune it to NHL/NFL network before I sit down. It's very functional when you know what you want - but the guide is awful for discovering what's on.
