With the launch closing in I thought that a dedicated thread for the XO set-up (including potential trouble-shooting) could be handy.

I've got a couple of questions right away and hope that you can help me out:

1. I come from Austria. A region with no Kinect speech support (although we speak german like our german neighbours WITH support which is twice as annoying).
So I heard that it's no problem to switch regions but that MS doesn't recommend it.
* Does a region switch allow me to use the speech support? (thinking about switching to UK)
* What possible disadvantages does such a region switch have? What things do I have to consider in advance?
* How easy is it to switch back?
* Is it true that your current credit doesn't get transferred?

2. Kinect set-up. Does the new Kinect have a tilt-functin too? What's the ideal height?

I moved my account from South Korea to US, so I can answer the first one:

- Region switch changes just about everything, so speech support will be switched.
- Once you move, you cannot use an Austrian codes for credits and Gold subscription anymore. All the services exclusive to Austrian account are not available, but this is not a shortcoming in case your country never had any entertainment services for Live accounts (like mine)
- You can switch back after 3 months.
- Credit transfers. Gold subscription transfers. Services that are available on both countries (ones you move to and from) transfers. Services that were previously available on original country but is not available on the new one doesn't.

So if you swap region do you need a credit card from that region to use Xbox live? Also, are you saying that the Xbox vouchers from your local retailer won't work if you move region?

I'm thinking of doing this. For what ever reason Republic of Ireland isn't supported for voice commands but Northern Ireland is.

Kinect 2.0 doesn't have a motor so doesn't tilt. The camera is advanced enough it doesn't need tilting. No such thing as ideal height, but don't mount it above 6 feet off the ground.

Wait, you meant Austrian speak German, instead of Austrian? Learnig something new everyday, Jesus, someome need to break this news to MS so they are aware of this,
On a serious note, I can confirm, there is alsoultely no retriction where the origin of your Kreditkarte is from. They do not give a damn, why would they. Whats important is you pay the correct rates to them, which means higher European rates for you......and me.
You however, cannot pay in the currency where you registered the account, if you resite somewhere else (IP address), not sure within EU where Euro is use, but certain not between countries using different currency. In fact, at least on 360, you cannot pay at all.
Personal experience.
Otherwise, no one will apply a European account, since you know, you need to pay quite a bit more for the same stuff compare to our American friends. LOL.
Its best to transfer region (think it cost some money), or just create a new gamertag with the same region as where you live, in the long term.

Once you swap to Northern Ireland / England, codes from your local retailer won't work. If your credit card supports VISA or Mastercard or any international credit card services you will be fine for the most part, but some services will be blocked, notably Xbox Video. They are usually blocked by either your IP address or the nationality of the credit card, but as far as I know none of services on XBL belong to the latter. (Latter includes iTunes / Amazon Music and Video) The former will be solved if you are using VPN, and I know it's cumbersome. But it's still better than anything for me because my country has none of those services working. Xbox Music works no matter where you live.

And I'm sure Ireland will be one of the first countries that will have Kinect voice support updated, so since there's this 3 months rule before you migrate back again, I wouldn't recommend switching region in your case.

I actually hoping it'll just work as it's silly to have one part of a country get voice support and the other half doesn't. It's obviously not anything to do with language.

Jap, Germany and Austria both speak German, the official language is the same, the only differences are local dialects however that's not a Austria-Germany but more of a geographical thing. MS is aware of this I'm sure, this just shows that it's not the language that's the problem there's more to it.
I just hate it that you can't choose your language of choice and that we don't get an essential part of the package.

Thank's for all of your infos.
So just to check whether I got it right:
I can change the region, my current € credit will be transferred (€ => pounds), I can still pay with my normal credit card, I can change back in three months at the earliest?

My first 2 sentences are only meant as Joke, but thanks for the clarification nevertheless.

Okay, now as for the details of credit transition you need to contact Microsoft Support of your country. I transferred before they got rid of Microsoft points, so the remaining 450 points were directly transferred, but now that MSP is gone I'm not sure how it will work now. If your credit card supports VISA or Mastercard you can still pay with your normal credit card but there can be some limitations on certain purchases, and if you have problem you have to wait 3 months to go back.

In Europe we're told by MS that we can switch location / country and language as often as we like, no problem. And if there's Xbox live available in your country, you can buy from Xbox marked, even if Xbox One isn't released yet in your country.

I will have a video on how to unpack your xbox one console and how to set it up step by step. I will cover this for your trouble shooting needs! ;)
