With the debacle that the Xbox 360 "red ring of death," was, it couldn't hurt to have an extended warranty. I think I'll be getting the extended warranty. It's $70 from Microsoft to extend for two years compared to $80 from GameStop.

Microsoft Complete for Xbox One
Overview
Microsoft Complete is an extended service plan for your new Xbox One console and Kinect. Microsoft Complete provides you with three total years of coverage for your console and Kinect sensor. Additionally, Microsoft Complete provides a warranty for two controllers. Microsoft Complete is only available within the first 45 days after your purchase.

Note Some exclusions and restrictions apply. Read the Terms and Conditions.

Step 1: Register your Xbox product (if you haven't already)

You'll need:
  • A Microsoft account (email and password).
Your Microsoft account is the email address and password that you use to sign in to various Microsoft services such as Xbox Live (find out more).
If you don't have a Microsoft account, you can get one for free.
  • Your Xbox One console or Kinect sensor serial number. How do I find this?
Once you’ve collected this information, go to the Xbox Online Service Center and sign in using your Microsoft account.

Time to complete: About 3 minutes

Step 2: Purchase Microsoft Complete
You can purchase Microsoft Complete anytime within the first 45 days of owning the product. You can make this purchase one of three ways:
  • You can purchase Microsoft Complete when you purchase your Xbox product at a Microsoft Store location or through an online retailer.
  • You can purchase Microsoft Complete by contacting a Microsoft Store support agent. To do this, go to the Microsoft Store website and click Contact us to find a regional sales number.
  • You can purchase Microsoft Complete directly from Microsoft through the Xbox Online Service Center.
Time to complete: About 5 minutes

That's a lot better than the Best Buy one I was going to get ($89/2years). Looks like I'm going this route now.

Not bad at all. It used to be $60 for two years on OG Xbox, right?

Walked into Walmart at 3am and they had one left sitting on the self from the midnight release. They offered me a 3 year warranty/service plan for $44. I normally decline any such thing but considering the 360 I went ahead and took the deal.

Might be worth it with the controller coverage. You break one controller and you pretty much pay for the warranty. I wore out 360 controllers like crazy.

I believe GameStop's is $80 for two years, not $60. Can anyone confirm before I update the OP?
I'm trying to sign up for this right now and it says:
Microsoft Complete - Xbox One - 2 Year
Covers hardware issues for 2 years from date of device purchase. In the event of a device malfunction, plan provides an Advanced Exchange replacement option at no additional charge (no upfront charge; credit card hold required and charges apply if original unit is not returned). Also covers up to 2 controller replacements during the coverage period. Exclusions apply. Review contract terms and conditions for details.'

Notice it says 2 Year. I thought this was 3 Years for $70?

Correct. I'll reflect that.

What's odd though is on the xbox.com page that talks about this it says:

This one shows three years. So which one is it?

Ah ok. I was a bit confused because in my first post above it says 2 years from date of device purchase. But I guess since it already comes with 1 that 1 just gets tacked on to the end?

Thanks for the info!

"Extended Service Plan: Your device and bundled accessories are covered for hardware malfunctions through Feb 12, 2017."

Woot, now I'm worry free! (and $70 poorer)

For reference sake PS4 has 2 warranty options one for $49 and one for $59 both 3 years.

This covers both the Xbox One + Kinect + x2 Controllers. I've never had to repair a console through warranty, but have busted controllers. For this alone its worth the extra $

I'm sure some would like to know is all....I wasn't posting to compare it to MS but would like if all the details of both be in the OP and I don't feel like making the thread :p
