What would be best, here in the states, reserve it online or in store (bestbuy)?

Edit: what I meant ask was... what would be the safer bet, reserve it online (BB/Amazon) or at the store? This will be the first system I've ever preorder, if I'm lucky :p

There's more discussion in the pre-order thread. A few people have warned me against Amazon as they don't always make their launch. I order a ton from Amazon but don't have much experience with launch stuff.

I got my launch X1 right from MS. The only issue I had was that they took the credit card I ordered with and stuck it on my Live account (without asking). Also I got my X1 on launch day, but it was almost 8pm. However I think that might have been the delivery company more than anything.
I'm still undecided myself. I have a pretty big credit on Amazon so may just roll the dice there.

Ain't exactly a new system.

Wut? I get Amazon preorders like a day before the stores can sell them. I got my Galaxy S8+ the day before I could have gotten it at a store. Same with most games.

Just relaying what I've heard. I think the X1 launch was worse because it was on a Friday and was a new generation.

I love Amazon and order tons from them, but you never know. Now and again even they mess up. I have gotten games before launch too.

I also have had experiences where 2 day shipping turns into someday I suppose shipping. They were fine for my PS Pro though.

It looks ok on the console, but that green writing on the controller looks tacky.

The placement seems an afterthought.

And I'm going to hold out for the Karen edition.

For ARK I'd probably prefer 1440p, 30 FPS, High. I like having an option though.

Probably. The likelyhood of them maintaining that 60fps is pretty low and on Pro it had double-buffered Vsync, so whenever it dropped below 60 it auto-locked down to 30fps anyways, lol. I'd hope for a uncapped framerate but who knows.

They said the game would be 1080p/60fps with ultra settings at E3 didn't they? now it's 1080p with medium settings? I've never played the game but based on what I've seen there are better looking games out there that can already run 1080p medium settings on the standard consoles so it seems strange that someone would need a One X for this to happen, I highly doubt it'll even be a true 60fps with these clowns making it. They also said the game would be 4K before taking that back right away around E3, that dev seems like they are either really disorganized or just talk out of their ass.

Being that some games will take up 10% of the included storage all on their own I wonder what external HDD will be best? I have a 3TB 7200 RPM one for my Pro and I like it, I'd get the same one for my One X only I'm not sure what speed the internal HDD is. I doubt it'll be faster than 7200RPM so I'll probably be ok just buying another one, hopefully they'll reveal the actual speed of the internal HDD soon.

Yeah, it's not exactly a technical show-piece. It's an indie game, a bit rough around the edges to put it lightly. My brother had a blast with it though... you just have to be willing to put up with a lot of jank. He seems to like quite a few jank games though, he's a big fan of Two Worlds as well.

As far as settings go, around E3 one of the dev's initially said it was coming to Xbox One X with "Epic Settings", but he didn't mention resolution. Another dev interviewd a few days later said "1080p 60fps w/ some PC only features.

It's probable that the person referring to Epic Settings was talking about the 1440p/30fps "Detail" mode. Another point is that the dev's say they never mentioned 4k/60fps at all; my guess is some publications got all of these things mixed up.

Here are a few things they mentioned specifically about Xbox One X version:

-trueSKY advanced volumetrics (which isn't currently on any of the console versions)
-Higher resolution textures
-Higher resolution meshes
-Improved Lighting
-Smoother LOD loading
-No Host tethering distance regardless of clients console (in split-screen and non-dedicated, the game world fits into RAM/ only console with this feature)

Also worth noting the 1080p might be a dynamic resolution to keep framerate high, that was said months ago though and I'm not sure if that will still be the case at launch.

The person saying "Very High" Settings might even be referring to Epic settings, because as far as I know PC goes Low>Medium>High>Epic IIRC. Another point is that the dev's say they never mentioned 4k/60fps at all; my guess is some publications got all of these things mixed up.

Funny thing is this is the only game that's targeting a higher framerate on the One X than the other consoles and they can't even seem to keep their story straight regarding settings lol. I'm not buying it anyway so it doesn't bother me, I just don't like when devs make claims and then can't actually achieve what they told people they were going to do. They've been all over the place with this thing, first saying 4K, then that they are just doing 1080p and going with epic settings while targeting 60 fps, now it's 1080p with medium settings. I guess we should expect their messaging to be janky if everything else about the game is too :)

Yeah their messaging has been a bit all over the place; I confused the hell out of myself even typing all of that.

Kinda funny, the variable resolution part hasn't even been mentioned in any articles/interviews at all; I just happened upon that tidbit searching through one of the developers reddit posts.

I'm definitely looking forward to the Digital Foundry teardown to see what they've done here in comparison to all of that mess of a info post I just typed.
