I believe so, but double check the site as far as the HDR is concerned. Not sure if they are in HDR or not.

Unfortunately you have to download it to a storage device and can't watch it through the browser.

No biggie though.

So xbox will get 3 type of badges to know what kind of game we getting?

That like the old xbox where is in the back of the art box telling you what the game is capable.

So 4k is Native and checkerboard dont count.

HDR

And Xbox Enhancement treatment.

That is why you see art covers with

4k - HDR - Xbox Enhancement

Went to the Best Buy event today. Forza 7 is a generation ahead of where 6 is on the One X. My gosh it's beautiful.

Oh also the rep told me that Shadow of War might be a pack in.

They have a One S bundle for Shadow of War coming, would be cool to get it as a pack in with the One X but the guy could have been confusing the two, that or MS expanded the deal. If they do include that'd be great, that's one of the 3-4 games I plan on getting on the One X.

First 4k fighting game

It's too bad they didn't upgrade the assets the way the Forza team did, when looking at the pics in the article the One X version clearly looks higher res but the textures themselves aren't all that great, they look better than the base console simply because of the resolution bump but they still don't look all that impressive.

Xbox One X Killer Instinct delivers the first 4K console fighting game

Killer Instinct will be the first console fighter to ever run at a native 4K. With that, Microsoft can well and truly put any criticism of image quality in Killer Instinct to rest - the game looks amazing. Compared to the 900p image on a standard Xbox One, the vault in quality is highly imprssive. Fixed at 3840x2160 all the way through, it sets a precedent on console, in a world where PS4 Pro's best efforts seem to top out at 1440p with titles such as Injustice 2 and King of Fighters 14.

A three-way comparison showing Killer Instinct running on Xbox One, Xbox One X and PC.

Of course, it helps that the original KI was a launch title with a 2013 vintage. It may be abundant in particle effects, but games like Injustice 2 still push the boat out further in model detail, animation, and the approach to materials and lighting. For Killer Instinct, it's impressive for one main reason. Jumping from 900p to 4K involves a 5.76x increase in pixel count for Xbox One X over the older machine. That's 5.76x times the GPU load, and Killer Instinct achieves it despite only having a 4.6x boost in GPU power to work with.

It's a well-optimised PC port, though. A basic i3 processor with a PS4-like GPU such as the R7 370 can run the game at these high presets and 1080p60, so with the Xbox One X's horsepower thrown at the game, it's clear to see how 4K rendering is possible.

Last Word

Is it the best looking fighter on console then? Certainly by the numbers it hands in the cleanest image quality possible for an ultra HD display - it's unmatched. And given the wide use of 1440p for fighters on PS4 Pro, it'll be fascinating to see what Injustice 2 runs at on Microsoft's machine, not to mention Tekken 7, which tops out at 1080p on Sony's supercharged console. For now though, Killer Instinct is a great demo for the Xbox One X's launch. As a fighter there may be more cinematic, technically advanced games on the market, but if you're looking to scratch that 4K itch, this is a great option.

Injustice 2 looks better and I'm comparing the Pro and PC KI.
Maybe if they work on the textures and add HDR things will be different but I'm sure Injustice 2 on X will be even better so i doubt it.

Wow DF is loving it.

any game on that list that is not native 4k should be removed because if they're not native, they are not 4k.
I thought the list was for the list of Xbox One X Enhanced games, which is at about 130. Xbox One Enhanced =/= Native 4K

Yes you're right. You'll definitely see significant benefits from running on HDR sets, and of course the game itself renders in 4k and takes advantage of higher resolution textures (will be a serious download) and assets, but HDR specifically was tricky for a couple of reasons specific to H5 - the first being of course that it's two years old and it's not just a switch - you have to "touch" all the content. The game was developed during the period HDR systems were still being ironed out. Even now there's a bunch of 10 bit/Dolby Vision etc issues for consumers.

This was largely resolved in time for Halo Wars 2, and so the HDR implementation for that will be full since the game was built from scratch to support it.

The second - and from my perspective more important aspect is that Halo in particular has color symmetry on level designs as an aspect of balance and matchmaking. One side is blue and one side is red, often in fairly subtle ways. We already balance for that difference and applying changes retroactively would be a test issue at a grander scale than many other games. So we made the choice to concentrate on other IQ aspects for the update.

Obviously that won't be an issue for future titles, since they'll be targeted for those systems in the first place and the art, test and design processes aligned.

And besides, it looks very pretty anyway.

There ARE methods for just blanket applying HDR to extant content, but the results are mixed and really dependent on what the underlying material looks like. So we developed for a conservative and safe outcome for that particular software.

I REALLY need an LG OLED. My neighbor got one. We have one at work. And it makes my TV look like crap. I'm reminded of the Pioneer Elite gulf.

So it sounds like HDR confirmed for Halo Wars 2.

edit: nevermind, I guess that patch already went through a bit ago, so this is just a slightly informative post as to why it's not in Halo 5 then. I'll probably be picking up HW2 after the new years so that should be a real treat, hopefully they have like a GOTY version by then with all of the content.

Halo 5 is prolly my most anticipated X Enhanced game. I still play PvP and Customs weekly, and am looking forward to a better playing experience, especially in Custom games where it can sometimes become a slideshow on the more taxing creations.

Yeah, and the res bump will be even more impactful as the MP can look pretty cruddy from an image quality perspective...

Xbox One X Hands-On Impressions
Richard Seagrave
20 September 2017

Earlier this month we got an offer that we simply couldn’t refuse: hands-on time with some of the hottest upcoming games, all running on Microsoft’s all-singing, all-dancing Xbox One X console.

While the games themselves were running on dev kits, complete with snazzy LED screens on the front that we just wish had made it into the final design, both a standard Xbox One X and a Project Scorpio edition were on display for us to feast our eyes upon. It’s amazing just how small they are when you see them in person – they’re noticeably smaller than even an Xbox One S.

Those who have pre-ordered the Project Scorpio edition should rest easy knowing that they’ve chosen well; while the green text on the controller is a little unnecessary, the console itself looks simply splendid with its textured finish. The standard Xbox One X just looks like a plain black slab in comparison, albeit a rather small and sleek one.

We got to play a range of games both old and new, all showing off the capabilities of Microsoft’s newest hardware revision, and none of them left us disappointed. Titles receiving Xbox One X updates such as Killer Instinct, Rise of the Tomb Raider and Gears of War 4 showed clear improvements.

Killer Instinct, for example, runs silky smooth and looks particularly crisp at native 4K, whileGears of War 4 and Rise of the Tomb Raiderlook more than a step ahead of their standard Xbox One counterparts thanks to more detailed textures and enhanced effects. We can certainly see ourselves playing through those titles again to re-experience them on a grander scale.

When it comes to new games, the power of the Xbox One X allows titles such as Assassin’s Creed Origins and Middle-earth: Shadow of War to really shine. Draw distances are improved, there’s more detail on the screen, framerates are smoother, and the image quality is dramatically enhanced. It’s clear that the power of the Xbox One X is going to make it the best way to multi-platform titles going forward.

The Xbox One X launches on 7th November, and preorders are open now. Look out for more previews of games we played at the Xbox One X showcase event in the next few days, like our quick look at the excellent Super Lucky’s Tale.

X enhanced means true 4K?
What does a game have to do to be called Xbox One X Enhanced?
"Xbox One X Enhanced is really a way to inform customers that a developer has done work that allows them to take advantage of all the performance and all of the horsepower of the Xbox One X," Penello explains. "It's just a simple way that customers can understand this game is doing something special on the Xbox One X."

"One of the things that we wanted to do was make sure that we were building the best platforms for developers so that the best versions of games are on Xbox," Penello says. "And really the game developer is the best person to decide how to use all that power. So different games are gonna take advantage of the [Xbox One X] performance in different ways.

"For instance, Rise of the Tomb Raider is doing several different modes. They're going to have an enriched mode, with more advanced textures and more lush environments. They also have a 4K native mode. If you look at Gears of War, they're going to be upgrading their game using the 4K assets from the PC and they're gonna be in native 4K. You can look at a game like Forza 7 which is really pushing the envelope of technology with native 4K, 60 frames per second, and high-resolution textures. So games are gonna go different things, but all of them fall under the banner of Xbox One X Enhanced."

343 Industries provides details on Halo 5’s Xbox One X upgrade

343 Industries’ Frank O’Connor has provided additional details about the enhancements that Halo 5 will receive on Xbox One X. O’Connor, who serves as the franchise director on Halo, recently posted on NeoGAFthat although Halo 5 won’t support full HDR, it will still have noticeable benefits running on HDR and 4K capable sets. His entire response to a post asking if he would chime in about HDR implementation due to previous statements he has made can be read below.

“Yes you’re right. You’ll definitely see significant benefits from running on HDR sets, and of course the game itself renders in 4k and takes advantage of higher resolution textures (will be a serious download) and assets, but HDR specifically was tricky for a couple of reasons specific to H5 – the first being of course that it’s two years old and it’s not just a switch – you have to “touch” all the content. From the sound of it, getting Halo 5 to support full HDR wasn’t feasible due to its design and time of development. Still, players will see “significant” benefits on the Xbox One X, and O’Connor notes that the game will also render in 4K resolution.
