Xbox One X

I just tried Steam Link on my phone and honestly Microsoft needs to get onboard with this ASAP! Launch an official Xbox controller meant for smartphones, and then an Xbox app to stream to your device.

That would be freaking awesome. Laying in bed playing some PUBG or Child of Light or whatever. I would even take it a step further and allow *some* games to stream away from your home network so when you are away from the house it also worked. I say some because obviously the more complex the game the more an issue latency is. But simple games like Limbo or Shovel Knight would probably work really well.

Can't you already do that on your tablet or PC with the Xbox app? Lots of people playing PUBG in their bed even though the Xbox is in the family room.

Yeah I think it works with Windows 10 but I don't (and the majority of people don't) have a portable Windows 10 device with them. A Surface tablet or PC would get uncomfortable in the bed pretty quickly. Especially propping up a Surface tablet and holding a gamepad.

Microsoft needs to release an official Xbox controller for smartphones that goes with one of these attach methods:

Really damned cool. I’d be all in.

I am pretty sure streaming to phones is something MS has talked about previously. Streaming (online and hub based) is what the platform in general is heading towards. I am sure the hardware will follow.

Why would I want to stream near 4k games to a phone?
My Galaxy S8+ does some type of HDR and 2960x1440 resolution.

If It's about screen size, yeah, I'd rather play on a giant 1080p screen than a phone... but a phone goes with you. I also don't Have a TV in the bedroom, and probably never will.

Well the Xbox library is pretty diverse. Would I want to stream 4K Gears of War onto my phone? No not really. Would I prefer to play Child of Light on my phone as opposed to the big screen? Absolutely. Ori and the Blind Forrest handheld......yes please.

Hydro Thunder.....Street Fighter.....Shovel Knight.....I can think of hundreds of titles I'd love to play handheld.

Thanks. I can see doing that.

Wait, can it be any ole tablet or must it be a windows surface tablet?

I'm pretty sure it's limited to Windows devices. I can't think of any disadvantage to Microsoft allowing streaming to Android/iOS devices. Unless I'm not thinking of something it's an excellent way to add a huge feature to the Xbox brand. The only hardware they'd have to sell is a slightly modified gamepad for smartphones but that's an accessory, big money item they love selling VS at a loss consoles.

The real megaton would be if *some* streaming was possible even away from home. Like I said in the post above I can't imagine complex games like The Witcher or Halo 5 would work well enough to stream over LTE or your at work WiFi, but I think quite a few indie titles could just fine.

I mean really if marketed correctly and with developer support, Microsoft would basically be turning every smartphone into a Nintendo Switch. Technically better than a Switch because most flagship phones now have a 6" screen with a much higher resolution that Switch. The new One Plus 6 has a bigger screen in fact.

Ryse Graphically looks Leagues better than GOW 4. GOW 4 looks very cartoony while Ryse looks damn near Movie quality in it's Graphics. Crytek once stated after MS released the updated dev kits they could easily run Ryse at it's current state at 1080P. Too bad we never saw a sequel.
GOW 4 is by Far the better game.
GOW 4 is also a game that released 5 years after Ryse.

I was blown away by both when I played them. But Gow is one of the best looking games ever.

I'm not sure how I feel about Kratos with an axe yet. But that's another topic.

What Dread Fox says....

Don’t forget your management games like SOD. Or sports games. Building up a team in franchise mode on the phone while watching live sports on the TV sounds like a good mix.

....plus:

Phones that unfold into tablet sized devices aren’t far away.

They’re also putting SIM cards in more tablets and laptops.

They’re making VR that works with your phones.

I say gamers are grossly underestimating the future. Anything that makes it more appriachable to play AAA games on portable devices expands gaming. Even if you’re not interested in AAA games on portable devices, by expanding the market, there will be more AAA games as a result.

Plus trying to take my 65” Oled on a business trip is probably not a great idea.

I started playing Oblivion again last night on the One X and was getting a really bad framerate, it was choppy as hell and I knew something wasn't right so I looked into it. If any of you ever have this problem the way to fix it is to go to settings and delete the 360 storage (it's auto saved on XBL so you aren't losing anything) and after the console resets and downloads the saves again you'll be good to go. It's much smoother now than it was before I did that and I'm glad because I really love this game and I'm looking forward to getting back into it again.

Streaming is possible away from home if you put your Xbox in the router DMZ or forward the proper ports to allow it. Last time I did this I put my Xbox in the DMZ (I don't see the issue since it's not a computer that can be easily hacked) and played on it all the way across the country (on win10 laptop). However, latency was an issue and I could only reliably play very simple games (was playing Gems of War) as other games were just too laggy. Now that could have been the connection where I was at, my connection at home or just a product of being too far away (or a combo of all three :)). I stream all the time within my home network where everything is connected via gigabit (i.e. gigabit router and 2 gigabit switches) and even when my laptop is wired, I still get occasional lag and some image degradation...wireless even more so. It's more than serviceable on the internal network but externally, I think there are a ton of dependencies that are unpredictable. Obviously Microsoft can likely optimize this even more but it portends to the issues with game streaming in general. Unless you have a super low latency link to the source, the experience goes from not ideal to unplayable pretty quickly.

That said, I welcome game streaming to any and all devices and optimizations from MS on this feature :). I have a new internet connection at home this year (1 GBit up/down) so I'll probably try it again during my 3 week vaca. to see if anything is playable. Luckily with GamePass, XboxPlayAnywhere, and a decent laptop, I'll have a good amount of games to play locally....but access to my entire library being playable would kick a$$.

Last I saw was a May release. Might have been a rumor.
We almost done with May mang. Yeah, this got delayed as f*ck. My son was super gung ho to get back into it on the X1X but the delay has kind of killed his enthusiasm. Maybe they'll release it at E3 (might as well at this point).

Yeah I can't stop thinking about/hoping for this feature now. Maybe I am the minority but I don't prefer to play "throwback" games on my TV and would be much happier playing them on my phone. Perfect recent example: Sonic Mania. I want to play that game, I just don't want to play it on the big screen after a few hours of PUBG. I would love to cozy up in bed and play maybe a level or 2 then call it a night.

I've come close to purchasing a Switch just for this reason, indie titles on a handheld. But if Microsoft delivers then I wouldn't need to. And like you were saying (as I did before) completely understandable if complex intense games didn't work at all away from the home network, but very cool if simple titles did. Because away from home on the subway or a quick break at work those indie titles are what you would really want to play anyways.

I'd be over the moon if Microsoft opened E3 with Ryse 2. You wanted a graphical showcase for the Xbox One X? Well here you go. Ryse at E3 2013 is still my single most favorite moment ever from a games show.

Apple just rejected Valve's SteamLink app. Only related to Xbox because of the hopefully coming soon Xbox streaming app. How annoying would it be if Microsoft announced an amazing stream app for Android and just couldn't release it on iPhone cause Apple is annoying LOL

That would have been pretty amazing. Thanks for fukcing it up Apple.
