Xbox One X

This is so true. It's a damn shame that the extra 4GB of RAM seems to be very under utilized and unless you're MS 1st party it seems extremely rare that devs use higher res assets. Most devs seem cater to the lowest denominator (PS4 Pro) and just bump the res and call it a day.

Lowest common denominator is the base Xbox One not the Pro, they are upgrading based on the base platform not the competitors machines. Mark Cerny said the reason the Pro didn't get a big memory increase was because it can cost millions of dollars to create those higher end assets and while some seem to think every game has them that's obviously not the case or every PC game would have a super high res texture pack. There is no reason not to add those higher end assets if they are just sitting there waiting to be used, clearly there is more to it than some assume. Just increasing the resolution already brings out more detail in the textures currently being used anyway.

A 4K60hzHDR rated HDMI switch/splitter box should do the trick.

Maybe something like these:

Amazon product
Amazon product

https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=15261
https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=15262

Whatever meets your needs. I haven't used any of these but this should be what you would need.

Make sure to read the reviews, some of them do not support 4K and HDR even though they are titled as such, I bought one through monoprice that works very nicely but it cost about $99.00

It would have cost SONY millions of dollars to add extra memory. I don't think you know exactly high res assets are when they are initially created, they are almost always down scaled for actual in game use.

With next gen i think both consoles will have pretty much identical gpu, i think xbox will go all out on cpu. I think i herd Phil say on a vid that fps and A.I need to evolve. So maybe it will be an addon chip or something but i think this is Xbox special sauce.

Yes it would have cost them money but when you look at how few games actually have "4K assets" on the One X and how few PC games actually come out with those "high res texture packs" that should tell you that they don't have those assets available or if they do there are other reasons to not include them. It seems like Sony made the right call, their machine was $100 cheaper and games like God of War have textures that rival some of the best you'll see in gaming while the One X extra memory seems to be ignored by most developers when it comes to higher end textures. Don't get me wrong I'm always in the camp of more memory is better but if there are other reasons that it can't be taken advantage of I can see why the decision to not add it was made.

SONY made a cheaper call. It was easier to make a minor upgrade. And God of War has framerate problems and a lower lighting quality.

The XBOX ONE X has better engineering. Better development kits. It's putting power into the hands of the developers they've never had. SONY has shown they are not capable to step up to Microsoft's level.

Holy crap! After spending some time with Horizon 4, I got to say damn! It looks like all the old bull shots we used to get in E3 videos! So good. I definitely pick 4k over 60fps too. It just looks so much better!

This game (like previous) just makes me smile while playing. The sounds and music combine in digital joy! It also drives amazing and going offroad really feels different. I also love how they have the lighting set to perfectly during actual races- looks a step up from just roaming.

*cough*ISaidItSomewhereBeforeAtSomePointAndTimeThat4kAssetsWillBeJustToBigMemoryWise*cough* gosh my throat is dry :p

A few 1st party games and a really crappy looking 3rd party game (shadow of war) are the only ones I can think of that actually use upgraded assets vs just calling them higher res textures simply because the game is being presented in a higher resolution. Shadow of the Tomb Raider uses the same upgraded textures on both the Pro and One X according to DF so that extra memory didn't seem to do a whole lot there. I do wish every company would use higher end assets, the fact that so few do means that they either don't have them or they aren't as easy to implement as many think.

Between Shadow of Tomb Raider and FORZA Horizon 4, it's been graphical bliss. Had some friends react to them over the weekend. They were amazed at how good these games look.

Agreed. Probably the best.

God of War looks incredible though. It's jaw dropping and nothing MS has come close in terms of production values. The minor hiccups do little to take that away considering the scale of the game.

It's received patches since then and runs at an average of 56fps on pro, that's incredible for a game like this and the 30fps is virtually locked now.

Look for me next week. I’m ready for some less sweaty online fun. Finally giving Halo 5 a break and think this will be my go-to. Game looks insane in HDR.

No one cares about PS4 Pro here. This is an Xbox One X thread in the Xbox forum. Take that s*** elsewhere.

I didn't bring it up to begin with and by you replying reinjects life into the subject, so yeah, shut up and let it die. :txbcool:

Microsoft started the generation with Ryse Son of Rome. SONY was the one playing catch up. In fact, God of War copies the camera point of view from Ryse.

Consider this: Because God of War was made for the PS4 Pro, it was held back. Lower quality lighting. No chance of a true 4K resolution. No chance of real 4K texture assets. If it was made for the XBOX ONE X, it could have reached true 4K 60fps. The quality of the games are improved all around.

The hypocrisy is real here

The guy who responded to a 10 day old post, tells me that replying reinjects life into a subject and that I should have let it die.:txbrolleyes::txbrolleyes::txbrolleyes::txbrolleyes::txbrolleyes::txbrolleyes::txbrolleyes::txbrolleyes::txbrolleyes::txbrolleyes:

Good points, but don't talk about ps4 pro here. I'm good with it, but Evo is watching.... oh wait, he posted after you. Apparently, he's okay with it again and all the other posts you've made.

Dude God of War is a far better game than Ryse, and I really enjoyed that game. The scope and quality makes Ryse look like childs play.

The fact remains that MS cannot yet compete with the polish of Sonys first party offerings. I say this as an Xbox guy. We should be putting (and are) pressure on MS to up their game, not make excuses for them.

IMO, Playground games has the polish throne for first party. H3 was sick. 4 is on another level.
