Xbox One X

How do you pause gameplay on the Xbox One X? Do you just hit the pause button, and the game freezes in position, then you come back later? I'm thinking of situations where I would like to pause gameplay, walk away for a couple hours, then come back later and start up right where I left off. Can I do that on the Xbox One X, without just leaving the screen paused for several hours (which doesn't seem ideal)?

On the PS4, you put it into "Rest Mode," and it powers down. Then you come back a few hours later, boot it up, and it starts right where you left off. That's kind of the function I'm thinking of. I thought the Xbox had this mode (in fact, I thought it had it before the PS4 got it), but I can't figure out where it is.

As long as "Instant-on" is enabled in system settings, you can just Power off from the controller. Your game should hold it's place... Unless you load a different game, anyway.

Ah, I'll have to check to see if that option is on. Thanks.

p.s. Found out that "instant on" was already on. The process isn't working for me, for some reason. I loaded a game (SoTR), shut the console down from the controller, booted the console back up, and it had lost my place. I needed to reload the game again. Hmm. I must be missing something. I'm not connected to the internet. I wonder if that would make a difference.

It doesn't work for BC games though right? I've tried it and those games were always closed out completely by the console.

Be sure to check the hard drive to have it checked off to power off the HDD when it is off.

Some games just aren't written well enough to sleep. I know if I don't actually quit Rainbow Six Siege, the next time I start the game, none of my DLC loads.

I can't get it to work, so I'll just skip it and rely on standard saves. No biggie, just a nice feature to have for someone like me, who likes to step away from a game for a few hours then come back and jump right in.

Latest Tomb raider doesn't work, it goes to title screen almost instantly if xbox turned off. AC odyssey worked flawlessly though. Honestly the only console that this have worked flawlessly for me across the board is the switch.

That's the game I'm trying it on (Shadow of the Tomb Raider), so maybe it'll work for other games.

Not all games are rest mode friendly unfortunately. The same game could be left running, in rest mode, with no problems but at other times that same game could just decide to close. Opening up random apps, like Netflix and YouTube, can also cause a game to close.

Ok. I'll just stick to the normal save system, then.

Settings > Power & startup > Power mode & startup > When Xbox is off, turn off storage [ ]

I see it on mine. It was already set to off (that is, unchecked). I'm assuming that's the default, because I don't think I ever changed that setting.

Two journalists from Brazil reporting that their Xbox one X have bricked after updating, one being a project scorpio edition, and neither stating if they were part of the preview program or anything else....

It has to be on if your game is stored on your external, and you want to use instant-on.

I don't use instant on....

Well that explains it. However I just tested and I turned off Instant on and after a minute or so after shutting my console down my external drive does turn off/stops spinning. You might want to feel your HDD to see if it stops spinning.
