"Xbox, use a code."

Well damn.

It'd be cool if they added this support to Smart Glass as well.

This is beyond awesome. Gone are the days of typing that in by hand.

So much faster than typing in 25 character codes..even with a chatpad/keyboard. Very impressed...now add the ability for me to do it online with my phone lol

That'd be the easier thing to do. I us my fitness pal on my smartphone and QR scan barcodes of foods so I automatically get all the nutrition facts instead of manually typing them in.

QR reading isn't new tech, it's just not used usefully or "smart" by businesses. My business card has a QR code on the back so people can scan it and have all my information in their phone ready to save.

So happy they added this. Should have been a feature of the first kinect.

Yeah, I like the barcode/QR reader that is natively built into my smartphone, it would be great to load up the xbox app and just scan the code instead of waiting till I get home and using the kinect to do it.

Wonder if the smart glass thing would evolve into that?

Maybe, or just update the Xbox app on Windows phone to allow it. although smartglass integration would hit a wider audience

Bank of America allows you to scan your check with your phone to make deposits into your bank accounts, that's pretty awesome to me. I rarely use it because I get direct deposit through my work, but it's still a neat feature.

Ya know, I'd even go further and say, make an option for people to scan a code after they purchase it from a store, and by the time they get home, whatever it was for is already downloaded and ready to play. If the Xbox One is standby mode, I don't see why not. Integrate the smart glass app to relay the code from phone to Xbox One via the webz.

yeah that would be rad, definitely would do that if I could scan it in on my mobile phone.

With the scannable checks..what do you do with the check lol do you have to eventually submit it to the bank for it to get processed and returned?

Nope. I tried it once. I got a check written to me from a family member and I used the app to take a picture of the check. It basically gets read just like it would if you went to the ATM and manually fed it as a deposit. I don't think you have to keep it, but I wouldn't throw it away or anything because if the issue did come up, you'd prob be screwed lol.

LOL yeah, was just curious how it worked at all. When I was younger I worked for a data processing centre for some of the major banks processing cheques, and the physical cheque was always pretty important as it got returned to the issuing bank stamped with proof of completed transfer.

Seriously though, if MSFT can tie QR codes to a mobile app so that it triggers an auto-download on Xbox One without the user being at the Xbox One, that'd be awesome.

It was. It didn't work very well.. Kinectimals at launch of Kinect 1.0 had a deal with Burger King where you got QR codes with large drinks or something and it took forever to get them to scan.

Could have done it last gen with smart glass though.

Great feature.

Irrelevant question: Am I the only one wondering why the phrase isn't "Xbox redeem code?"

Yeah I know I just meant with online passes and so on.

I always hated entering those long codes, more often than not I'd make a small mistake and it'd take a while checking the code to figure out what I got wrong. Most of the mistakes I'd make were putting a 9 instead of N, and others similar to it.

Now I'll never make a mistake. Unless I find a way to f*** it up. I'm sure I will lol.
