XO Is Back!

Probably. Doesn't mean it isn't possible though. In fact, TR would fit like a hand in glove for the Xbox brand. The IP I think, would cost as much as a studio purchase if not more though. I can't see them swinging it. They'd probably opt to create a TR-esque brand new IP with the initiative or someone like that.

Hmmmm, isn’t the lead guy a someone from crystal dynamics now at the Initiative?

I wonder if MS would be willing to work with another 3rd party to make a second party game, like with halo wars 2 and Sega

Did they ever release info on how much GOW IP was when they bought it off of epic? Was it more or less then Minecraft?

Less, I believe. I'd have to look it up.

Some of us are even speculating Bluepoint Studios. They are independent and even though they've worked almost exclusively for Sony, Sony doesn't own them. Their fair game. And there's rublings that Microsoft may have acquired a studio in Texas. Playful flat out denied an acquisition via tweet. So maybe Bluepoint or Arneture? I dunno...

You know, I like where you’re going with that, bluepoint games could work. I’m sure with their skills and talent they’re more than eager to work on games that are of their own.

Armature, they’re made up of former retro studios folk, no? And they did the heavy lifting for Recore?

Yep!

Rumor: ‘Banjo Kazooie’ Xbox Announcement Could Happen At X018

In just a few weeks’ time, Microsoft will host its first X018 event in Mexico City, announcing a number of games for its Xbox One owners. And the company may have some surprises -- including a real blast from the past.

A Rare fan by the name of VALEX recently posted an interesting theory on Twitter that has him believe that a new announcement for the Banjo Kazooie series could be made at the event next month. And he’s come up with some interesting proof to back him up.

He brought up the old Xbox 360 game Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts, which is included in the Xbox One release Rare Replay that came out back in 2015. The 2008 release notes an Easter Egg asking if people will remember the game in a decade, in which it states in print on the bottom of a spinning stage, “Bear and bird’s first adventure. Will anyone remember Nuts and Bolts in a decade? Come back in 2018 and find out.” You can see a video for this below. (And for the record, the duo did have two N64 games before this -- Banjo Kazooie and Banjo Tooie, both of which are also in Rare Replay.)

Of course, this could be nothing. But then VALEX dug up a couple of other things.

First up, he reminded us that the team at Totaku was introducing a new line of Conker’s Bad Fur Day and Banjo Kazooie collectibles and toys. Obviously, this could just be a line that ties in with nostalgia with the characters, since a lot of Rare fans still love them. But considering that Banjo Kazooie haven’t gotten a new game in a while, this could tie in with a potential release. (Keep in mind we’re also getting a cool statue from First 4 Figures too.)

Finally, he took an image from the profile of Paul Machacek, a long-time developer that’s worked with Rare. His profile now lists the likes of Battletoads, Donkey Kong, Banjo Kazooie and Viva Pinata, but as you can see from the picture below (from VALEX), there’s a title that’s missing.

Machacek noted that the sequel mention above was just an Easter Egg he left, and that it “took weeks for anyone to notice.” But what if the long-rumored Banjo-Threeiemay be happening? After all, Rare’s only project right now is updates to its previously released Sea of Thieves, so it might just be planning something new.

Now, take all of this with a grain of salt. It could be nothing. But if this does tie in with a new Banjoadventure, it’ll definitely be something that Rare fans remember for some time. And who knows, they might just root through older games to see what other secrets they can find.

We’ll let you know what goes down at X018 when it takes place on November 10. You can learn more about the show here, including where it’ll be live-streamed.

Meh i need better

I'd much rather get a legit Banjo game than a new Nuts & Bolts, but N&B is surprisingly good.

What did this tweet say? Looks like it's been deleted.

As for XO announcements, I'd love to see:
  • Obsidian acquisition (didn't they have a game in dev called Stormlands at the beginning of the gen that MS pulled the plug on?)
  • Turtle Rock acquisition
  • Fable 4 official announcement - Release in 2020 (though after Crackdown 3, doubt they'll announce a release date/window yet)
  • A new Rare game (I mean, I think SoT has been reasonably successful but they can't be all in on one IP, right?; I know GaaS games are resource heavy but it'd be pretty stupid to put all of your eggs in one basket like that)
  • Release dates for Ashen, Below and The Last Night (hopefully all coming to Gamepass day and date :))
  • Some other 3rd party partnerships (mostly to bridge the gap between now and when the new studios start producing)
Realistically, that is probably going to be it for acquisitions for a while (assuming the rumors come true). I mean 7 total "new" FP studios is pretty amazing (I mean, sure, I'd like more but probably not a reasonable ask). I know we are a ways off on tangible games from said acquisitions and Gears 5/Halo Infinite/Forza are likely going to have to bridge the gap (along with some smaller games like Ori). We might see Fable 4 in 2020 but that would be the earliest, I think.

Any other wild and crazy rumors/speculation/wishes for XO?

1. I'd like to hear more about The Initiative. i know games are far off but any details about the studio, goals, etc would be nice.
2. Surprise Gamepass additions. (Cuphead, Ori, 360 exclusives games made backward compatible, etc)
3. New partnerships with different studios not usually associted with Xbox/Microsoft.

Interesting. It said Gears 5 would be a no-show at the show, but then he posted this, so he was just making an assumption. So hopefully that means they’ll show something.

Cool. Thanks for the update. Looks like I need to follow that guy on Twitter :).

I don't think The Initiative will show/talk about anything. AFAIK, they studio has only existed for around 6 months and that is way early. More likely to hear something from another studio as they may have already had their next games in some state of production at the time of acquisition. Though to be fair, I don't think we'll hear anything from Compulsion, Ninja Theory or Undead Labs though either due to MS' recent bungling of Fable Legends/Scalebound and announcing Crackdown 3 too early. I really only think Fable has a chance of something being announced shown....and hopefully Rare is working on something else besides SoT.

Yeah, MS need to add some of the older games into Gamepass that they published (many have been added but the ones you noted have not). Another good acquisition for Microsoft is Moon studios assuming they are available/want to be assimilated officially into Microsoft. Heck if we get Obsidian, Turtle Rock and Moon Studios, I would be over the moon! ;)

Am I the only one who really can't stand these games? I mean to each their own but every trailer I've seen for this has been cringe-worthy. I don't even mind Disney stuff or JRPGs in general but this game (maybe the whole KH series) seems corny as all f*ck.
