XO Is Back!

posts like these are funny. Lol

There were a pretty constant amount of tweets essentially saying what to expect. Even the beginning of the show, there was am entire road map of what to expect. If you were expecting more than what they said you'd get, that's on you.

Its called Fanfest for a reason. It was a marketing show for fans of Xbox. It wasnt meant to be a mini E3 (which was said by Major Nelson too) they delivered what they promised.

Hell, I didn't care for all of it either. But there were a few things I'll invest in for sure. I certainly didn't expect anything more than what the damned actual roadmap in the very beginning of the show spelled out for us. LOL.

Major Nelson said something along the lines of "its not E3 but its close."

He should not have said that because it wasn't close.

Just start copying the Nintendo Direct format and stop wasting peoples time.

Ok, so the show format was horrible and I wasn't really enthused that they didn't announce or show a sneak peek of anything new. These kinds of shows, I think the hosts always come off cheezy as hell regardless of who is putting them on. If you follow Major or any of the other guys on Xbox, they do game quite a bit and it seems like not just "for the job" though I imagine it's a fantastic perk.

Pros
  • 2 Studio Acquisitions. Both are primarily RPG studios and I can't wait for what they come out with (you can play InXile's Wasteland 2 right now on Gamepass). Was also hoping they would snag Sumo Digital for a good action game studio...hell could still happen. Oddly enough, I started playing Wasteland 2 just a few days ago....was a big fan of Bard's Tale, Dragon Wars, & Wasteland back in the late 80s/early 90s (heh, most you kids probably weren't born yet).
  • Crackdown 3 graphically got the upgrade I wanted. Jury is still out on MP but it looks promising. Regardless, if the awesome co-op play/explorathon is as good/better than the original, I'm there with bells. Also, they NEVER talked about a full destructible city and have always said destructible buildings were in MP only. I'm more concerned about the "lock on" ability in MP (but J Staten said there is a reasoning for it and the destructible environments play a part.). Even if I never play MP, this game will likely get tons of hours from me.
  • Gamepass is stepping it up but I think it needs to go even farther. They really need a BIG recent or day and date 3rd party title in there (was hoping for SoTTR). I'm playing the f*ck out of Gamepass games though (beat Fallout 4 @ 120 hours; just started FH4, finishing up Rime and a few others)...haven't even felt the need to buy RDR2 yet...waiting for Black Friday sale and MP to launch.
  • Winter of Arcade. Stoked about this. I'm probably not going to watch the game awards tho...maybe Below? The Last Night? Ashen?

Cons
  • No new games/sneak peeks. While I get that many of these new acquisitions were not ready and MS apparently has an aversion to showing anything too far ahead (though Halo Infinite probably blows that as a 2020 release is probably the earliest we'll see it), I wanted something official on Fable 4 at least. Understand that they may be saving for E3 but I wants dammit....could also be a game awards reveal. I didn't expect anything from the recent acquisitions honestly but it would have been nice.
  • Format sucks. I know it's a fanfest but man I really can't stand watching these guys for 2 hours. Otherwise, all of the ra-ra was to be expected as it was primarily a fan event. I guess I would have preferred a stage show like E3. Overall, wouldn't have really cared as much about the format if a new game reveal had been there.

So, all in all not bad but if MS is going to continue these, they need to tweak it a bit. I doubt next year that there'll be 2 studio acquisitions to be announced so they better start announcing some games and any other cool stuff they have coming. Can be difficult between E3, Gamescom, XO, The game awards. Fact is, an announcement at an XO event probably has the least impact of those 4 options to launch product.
