What are your top 5 favorite movies and TV shows of 2023. Plus others that you enjoyed watching throughout the year?

My top 5 favorites in no order out of what I got to see…

MOVIES:
The Creator (I really liked this one one of the better sci-fi films in recent years)

Indiana Jones and the Dial Of Destiny (was an enjoyable film and final send off to one of my favorite characters growing up)

Guardians of the Galaxy 3 (I loved this movie and these characters got me in the feels)

Oppenheimer (being a history buff this was right up my alley looking forward to watching it again at home)

Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse (this movie was awesome and is up there with the best of the live action films)

TV SHOWS:
The Fall of the House Of Usher (was a great series with a satisfying ending)

Loki (continues to be my favorite of the MCU shows love the cast)

Gen V (turned out to be just as good as the main show I really liked it)

Ahsoka (I enjoyed it especially the last couple episodes they were great)

Last of Us (good show and interesting world looking forward to more)

I didn't watch much new stuff:

Movies:

Paprika: highly imaginative surreal ride fully using it's animation medium.

Synecdoche, NY: This movie was phenomenally surreal , beautiful, and hard downer ending. Watched it twice last year and need to watch it again sometime.

NAKED LUNCH: One of the all time most fvcked up movies, but I guess I love surreal weirdness. Also, the direction and cinematography and cast are fvcking solid in this production.

Mulholland Drive: It's David Lynch

TV Shows:

The BOYS: Yes, I came to this show very late. I was doubtful about the premise, but the writing and characters hold up.

Inuyashiki: Last Hero

Aliens mess up and demolish an old man and teenager in a park crashing their saucer. Hastily rebuild them with their alien weapons tech leaving them to sort out what they've become. The show is okay, but I like the old man as a character.

Attack on Titan: Final Special Episodes Season 4 Show Finally

This show is why I was kind of in Anime mode. It was quite a spectacle with some odd turns in the story especially Season 4.

I wouldn't easily recommend something like Naked Lunch unless you're down for something really effed up.

Paprika is just great trippy fun though.
Paprika is the only one I’ve seen before, I think last year it was in the theaters, in a few locations, regret not watching it there.

I’m intrigued by what you seat about naked lunch, what’s the elevator pitch?

This is kind of extreme Drug Noir Film

Drugs and the dangerous craft of Writing, humans that may be centipede agents, talking typewriter insect buttholes, homosexuality, typewriters that turn into hentai creatures, lots of drugs, and subconscious telepathy, drugs, insane Howard Shore Jazz film score, and Mugwumps.

I dunno, this movie is topnotch in film technique because of two things: Director David Cronenberg and he hired cinematographer Peter Suschitzky. The latter also worked on Empire Strikes Back which I think will never be topped by any Star Wars movie ever, and I think he was a major reason for that.

This old review is a take worth considering Ebert expresses high admiration for the artistry even though he felt extremely uncomfortable watching it.
