The spaces between realities!
In honor of the upcoming release of Mass Effect: Andromeda I thought we should all travel down nostalgia lane and due honor to the original trilogy.

To me....this original launch trailer was what sealed the deal for me. It still gives me some goosebumps!

.....but everybody has their favorite.

Favorite Squad member?

Favorite Game of the 3?

Favorite Mission?

So I want everybody who posts in this thread to post their favorites;

Who was the best squad member to you? This includes DLC characters of course.

The best game out of the 3?

The best mission?

The best ass? ugh...romance?

..and on the flip side...

Who was the worst squad member?

Which game was the worst in general?

The biggest surprise?

Tell me how your Mass Effect experience played out.

I got the most into ME2 and really bonded with the characters and story. And I spent sooo much time exploring planets it was a bit ridiculous how much time I spent away from the main story itself. ME3 was good with some great new character despite the wacky ending(?). ME1 seems like ages ago and I almost need to replay it to fully recall what I liked/disliked about it. If I recall it seemed far more limited that the sequels.

It has been well over a year since I beat ME3 and I feel like I need a refresher course at this point to answer all your questions. It's not that I don't absolutely LOVE this series and was fully engaged each playthrough, it's just that when you put 30 other games in between playing it things get hazy. Funny enough, I have no problems at all remember the best ass...ME2 Miranda. Some things you will never forget!

Wow, hard to choose. I guess the first Mass Effect with it's stellar cast. Garrus being my favorite squad member. This wasn't necessarily a mission but on Mass Effect 3 going around talking to your crew(the ones still alive) that you've got to know through the trilogy and essentially saying goodbye to them. I thought it was a nice touch and a poignant moment.

Fave was prolly ME2 despite the planet scanning (which sucked but had an impossible to understand adictiveness). I loved the villain in ME One, and the mako exploration. Garrus is my bestie, Miranda is the hotness.

The third pissed me off because it practically made ME 2 pointless. Hey! Go find a crew to help save the galaxy... And you will barely see them again...

Kayden can go spend the weekend with @bellbama...

Oh yeah Frozzie, you spurred my memory! ME1 was the planet exploration in the Mako and ME2 was the planet scanning. Yeah, both were addictive but roaming about in the Mako was the best. Now I think maybe I liked 1 more but 2 was so much smoother with the controls and better battles. Seems like 1 didn't really act until a shooter until the end. I need to reread ME Wikki before I play Andromeda to brush up on my culture and timeline.

Mass. Effect 1.

It was the only one with true exploration, and exploration is one of the big things that makes an RPG an RPG.

I loved the original trilogy and I'd have to say number three was my favourite. I'm one of the few who actually liked the ending. For me it was perfect. Plus they brought a great multiplayer part to the table.

ME1 was my favorite.

Tali, Garrus, and Wrex were my favorites but Thane was also great.

Vega was the worst and it's not close.

I actually didn't mind Jacob. Vega was just a big meat head, not to mention how awful that part is where you have a sparring session with him.

"Hey Loco!" :smash:

For me, overall, I enjoyed 1 the most. The fact that the game's focus was more on the skill points and exploration than on typical shooter mechanics made it feel more like an RPG where you were creating your own character and less where you were playing one of a cast of premade options. I liked the Mako missions as well, even though I do have to give props to ME2 for the "Probing Uranus" easter eggs.

In terms of individual missions, the resolution of the Quarian/Geth arc in 3 is quite possibly the pinnacle of impactful storytelling in gaming as far as I am concerned. The Krogan/Mordin resolution was also great. I always say that if the ending of 3 had not been so regrettably like a Deus Ex "Press this button to choose this ending" finale that it would probably have been a contender of Game of My Lifetime, but it's simply terrible to give the player's actions that much weight in the universe for three games only to reduce it to a Choose Your Own Adventure when it comes time for the final payoff.

The best character, as far as I'm concerned, is probably Tali - it had to be someone who was there in all three games and if you read the start of the last paragraph and knew what I meant, you know how much impact she had. I'd probably have to go with Samara/Morinth as worst character, though Jack got on my nerves a lot as well - all three felt pretty much like one-dimensional characters. Miranda could have been a consideration as she really seemed to be along only as "Insert Penis Here Companion Character" but she turned out to have more dimension in the backstory than just the dimensions of her backside.

3 is surely the best overall game.

1 for the feels though.

Mass Effect 2

For romance Liara

Sure, I Banged Kayden, but I hated him.

He was for too goody goody for my liking. :p

I think 2 was my fav, but I really missed the mako moments (as painful as they could get). I didn't mind the end of 3, but I hated that I had to play multiplayer to unlock the % thing.

As for my fav character... I kinda loved them all. Tali was rad, Wrex had some swag, and that weird Snail bloke was pretty fab in a shifty way.

Yeah that was bad especially with female Shepard.
But I didnt mind him as the game went on.

The best game out of the 3?
Can't decide, honestly.
1 was so original. I instantly fell in love with the franchise. I loved hating Saren.
2 introduced the best characters and was goddamn epic from start to finish , especially the final mission at the collector base.
3. had the most fanservice, and had me connect more with the characters. Citadel DLC was an awesome addition to 3. The only DLC that rivaled it was Lair of the Shadow Broker in 2.

The best mission?
The Citadel (3 DLC), Lair of the Shadow Broker (2 DLC), Collector base Normandy crew rescue (2), Cerberus Citadel Attack (3). Fighting Kai Leng(3). Garrus and Sidonus' betrayal (2), Samara tracking down Morinth. Miranda Oriana Niket (2). Zhu's Hope & ExoGeni (1).

The best ass? ugh...romance?

Liara with female Shepard.

..and on the flip side...
Dunno..after playing with Jennifer Hale's voice as femshep, I tried but had no interest in playing through with male shepard.

Who was the worst squad member?
Zaeed, Grunt and James. Thane had an interesting story but I never picked him for mssions. Garrus was the best(ie).

Which game was the worst in general?
Can't decide. What I can say though: ME1 was awesome, but it didn't have most of my favorite missions.

The biggest surprise?
It was actually a rumor about the game. The theory was floating around that Shepard might have been compromised by the reapers early on in the third game. It made it really interesting going forward. Liara and the shadowbroker stoyline was a nice surprise.

Tell me how your Mass Effect experience played out.
It was great. I love the ME universe and some of the ME characters are some of my favorite game characters. I wasn't bothered by 3's ending.

I'll go with Mass Effect 2. The others were good but 2 was just amazing all the way through.

I voted ME3. Other than the ending, which they fixed, I see nothing wrong, & I think combat wise, its an improvement & combination of 1 & 2.

Its also the only ME I play as femshep, after I done with the male (default) I use through all 3 games, to see whats the fuss is about. They said the voice acting was good. I will never know, as I played on Xbox 360, & the game is only available in German & French I believe. Its quote nice actually, though romance feel wierd as a straight male.

2 by a country mile. It had a cast of characters that I would want to take with me on any game. The story was epic and so enthralling and ending really made feel like your decisions in the final chapter of the game mattered. Favourite characters is a tough one but Garrus,Thane and Mordin were probably my favourite. Awesome aliens ftw.

ME1 was great, but the planets were fairly lifeless and the combat was wonky. ME2 just scrapped the exploration, which sucked, but everything else was improved.

3 started fine, but the last 10% was comparable to the ending of Lost.

"It's coming to a close and they have a ton of ground to cover. I'm sure this will be epic."

No.

The main reason that stop me from replaying ME2 is planet scan. Everytime I want to replay, I remember the 'torture' of planet scanning.
