Official Thread Bloodborne

So what can I spend my Blood echoes on? And where? I played a bit last night (very beginning) and got past the place I was last time. Perhaps I haven't reached a point where I can spend these? I was wanting to buy something because I keep losing them, but I don't see where to buy stuff. The only thing I saw I could upgrade with was some blood thing for my weapons? I really don't like starting from the beginning when I die.

Activate the first lantern in Central Yharnam and then go to Hunter's Dream and you'll see a doll you can talk to to spend echoes on your primary stats like HP or stamina. Certain weapons have stat requirements to use so be aware of that before making your decision on what stat to upgrade. And further up the stairs you'll see a work bench to use Blood Stones to upgrade weapons. A little later on you'll unlock the alter to place runes which give you more stat upgrades like getting more echoes from kills or increased stamina.

Starting over sucks and its what made me give up on this game when it released almost 2 years ago. But I've been playing it for like a month now and I'm hooked. Death seems like a curse in this game but its actually a mechanic to give you combat practice while getting your familiar with the environment. And once you unlock shortcuts you will find that death is not that bad. And a great tip which was given to me in this thread is to know when to stop exploring and go back to Hunter's Dream to spend echoes on upgrades.

I hope you stick with it and the game clicks with you like it did with me. This is not Nioh, you won't be performing high string combos. This game's combat centers on getting one or two hits in and then dodging out of the way. It will take some time to get to know how certain enemies attack and it will take some time to know what weapons/attacks stagger enemies to allow for more hits before you have to back away. And remember stamina management is very important. Also, don't forget about you firearm to stagger enemies to deal even more damage.

Spend them on points, consumables or equipment. There is always something to buy. I'm level 150 (or about that) and I'm still tweaking my character stats.

But where? Do I go to a store? I don't recall the game telling me, and I didn't see anything in the pause menu.

Ah yeah. I forgot about what an a****** that game is when you start. Until you fight the very first boss, you can't level up. On the bridge there is a boss. Just run up there and let him kill you. That will give you Insight. You need Insight to see the doll in Hunters Dream come to life. You se her to spend echoes and level up.

Damn, I was invaded like 3 times last night. It was annoying since I was farming echoes to level up, just hit lvl70. But I think I'm going to play offline for a while since I want to concentrate on the game.

What area? If you kill the bell ringer she won't respawn, even if you leave the area and come back. You just need to kill her once. That will stop invaders. Personally I love killing invaders in this game. Especially with the moonlight sword and that shock wave attack.

I'm in the second part of Nightmare Mensis right after you kill Micolash. When I spawn in there is always a message about some bell ringing but I don't know what it meant. I guess its telling me about the bell ringer you're talking about. I will find her and put her to the sword because I'm busy farming echoes. There are tons to be had where I am now and my Ax/Kirkhammer combo shreds most enemies very quickly since they are both at +8. I'm running a strength build so those weapons damage scale nicely. The invade thing is cool but when I'm farming I don't want to have to deal with it since most players have so much better loot which is expected given how long this game's been out.

I never heard of the Moonlight sword. Please tell me who I need to kill for such a cool sounding weapon.

From the starting point of the Nightmare run up and to the left. Head into the building with the spiders. On the right is a stairs. Up those and on the right again is an opening. In there is the bell ringer.

The moonlight sword is a DLC weapon. You get from the first or second boss. It's mostly an arcane weapon but it also scales with strength. If you have strength AND arcane , like I do, it's a friggin monster.

I see, thanks. I think I missed her because after that room was a Hunter that I had a lot of trouble with. So I think frustration took hold and I didn't explore that area as much as I should have.

I'll be getting the dlc. Its nice to know there is still a lot of cool stuff waiting. But there are a lot of other games coming like Horizon so its going to be a interesting balancing act.

I would advise NOT beating the game before you play the DLC. Otherwise you will have to progress to Vicar Amelia on new game plus to access it.

Yep. Forgot anout that. Don't beat the final boss if you plan on getting the DLC.

Thanks to Nioh I'm really looking forward to giving this game an actual chance again at some point.

I just beat the Wet Nurse and the Doll is telling me Gehrman is waiting by the Great Tree. I assume he's the last boss before completing the campaign so I'm holding off on meeting him for now. I still have the Cainhurst Castle, Nightmare Frontier, Upper Cathedral Ward and the DLC to complete. I don't know how many hours I put into this game since I restarted but I know its a lot and this game has shot up my list of favorites in recent memory. I'm so glad I came back to this game.

That stretch right before Mergos Wet Nurse with the 3 pigs is great for farming. Equip some gems that give more echoes and let the grind begin.

Martyr Logarius seemed impossible. I kept telling myself he has too much reach, he's too fast, there's no way I'll be able to beat him. But once again it took me a large number of attempts to figure out that I could gun parry him. After that I beat him in like 2 minutes. This game really tests one's willingness to try again. But I now have the cool looking Cainhurst Armor set. But also some weapon called Chikage that I don't have the stats to use. Does anyone know if its worth grinding to meet that weapon's requirements?

I've never used the chikage to be honest.

Just finished the Old Hunters DLC. It was really fun and challenging.:bang:

The motto of this whole game is "when in doubt, parry."

Over a year after I figured I'd try this again after loving Nioh I'm finally back into it. Not that far though only have cleaned up everywhere in the Central Yharnam area before fighting the guy in the cemetery. Think I'm almost to level 20 now and decimated the Cleric Beast like the little bitch that he is. I don't remember if I got to the boss after the one I'm about to fight though. Think I remember how to fight this guy though. Also, as I didn't think I'd ever end up finishing this I know the end boss already but oh well game is still a blast. Also good to know on starting the DLC before the final boss. Only downside is I just missed a sale on that in the past week or two.

Well camera can still really bone you. Fought Father Gasciogne or whatever last night and only trouble I had was after he went beast mode and I could run away, then turn and lock. Instead, it would swing my camera back forward again and then he'd pounce. Anyways, only took me two tries which I'll take as I'm not that good at these games anyways, but definitely easier than the first time I faced him however many years ago. I am getting better at using the gun to stagger the bigger enemies, although I do find myself panicking after shooting and rolling away thinking I'm going to get hit, so I lose out on my visceral attack. Just need to learn to embrace the danger and take the risk of getting smacked after mistiming the shot.

Old game but spoiler warnings anyways...

Really enjoying the game now. Just beat the blood starved beast. Took me a couple tries because I'm a moron. Once I figured out just roll into him as he attacks, you pretty much get free reign since his follow up attacks all miss you at that point. After that I got murdered by the garbage bag enemy and sent to prison. Not sure if those guys are killable at this stage of the game. Seems like it is more of an end game area from the guide I was looking at, which I did because I was curious about this place since it seemed my next stop was the Healing Church. Anyways I cleaned up most of the area not blocked by locked doors and found a lamp. There was another section through a tunnel but looked like once I jumped there was no going back, although maybe I'd find one of the other sides of a locked door.

Anyways, I'm curious on my weapons. I started with the Saw Cleaver and picked up the Kirkhammer recently. It's supposed to be more powerful (I do have required strength) but it doesn't seem to do as much as the Saw Cleaver. Not sure if it might matter on enemies that take more damage depending on the weapon. VaLLiancE you seem to be a pro at these games any input?

Finally, I had found all three Dark Souls games for cheap on PC a month or two back as I wanted to get into those. Odd that it took Nioh to get me into this genre of games but whatever. I am a sucker for steelbooks and was thinking of double dipping on the upcoming trilogy collection but maybe not.

Weapons scale with more than strength.
Ie it might take more attributes to bring out the best each weapon offers.
For example I have a sword that does even more damage if arcane is high.

I haven't played in awhile but that's about how it goes.

I'll have to double check then. Trying to remember off the top of my head I think I'm level 43 right now.

Vitality 20
Endurance 17
Strength 25
Skill 17
Blood 7
Arcane 6

Think I started with the military veteran but haven't touched bloodtinge or arcane yet. Maybe eventually if I find a weapon that needs it, but I always like the more knight/warrior builds. Both are +4 so far so the Kirkhammer is B/E/-/D where as the Saw Cleaver is D/E/-/D so that's why it was odd to me. Not sure if it matters regular/transformed though. I just found a new badge which unlocks Ludwig's Holy Blade so I may just get that instead.

I'll have to look into scaling though.

Still working through the game. Beat the Witch of Hemwick last night which was a fun fight. That whole area is my favorite so far. Such a great atmosphere. I think I'm over levelled though as I'm steamrolling through this area including the the boss fight. I've been trying to go back to previous places to check on residents and side quests though as I don't want to miss anything. I only have two people at Oedon Chapel right now though, the old lady from the beginning near where you find Aileen, and then the hooker lady that gives you her blood. Not sure if there should be anyone else at this point. I also helped Aileen kill Henryk to continue her side quest helped the little girl find her mother's brooch. There was the nun in the basement of Hypogean Goul although I didn't know how to save her at the time. Not sure if she can still be saved as one place said it's only after you've been bagged. I'll try going back tonight though.

For weapons I've decided to stick with the Saw Cleaver as my primary and currently have it at level 6 as I need to find the final stones to upgrade it. I'll probably continue with Ludwig's for a secondary and might go elemental with it, as I have a nice fire gemstone for it. My arcane is still really low though.
