I get that it's a video game and you wanna kill people but Spiderman is not known for killing. It would be stupid and out if character.
It's not a video game to me...

"Yeah!," said Insomniac creative director Bryan Intihar, speaking to IGN. "I can confirm, yes you actually play, at various stages of the game, Mary-Jane."
While he wouldn't be drawn on specifics, Intihar did hint that there would be more to playing Mary-Jane than simply guiding her around story sections:
"It's a very different experience to playing as Spider-Man," he explained, "and it stays true to her character, in terms of her background that she's a reporter for the Daily Bugle. It captures that feeling. Also, the other thing for us is that, even though we are creating a superhero world in the fantasy, we thought it'd be interesting to show what it's like to be a character who doesn't have superpowers, what it's like to be that person in a superhero world, and actually control that character."
Going by her discovery of the Devil's Breath bioweapon in the story trailer, Intihar could be hinting at detective-like play with MJ. He also indicated that MJ herself would be slightly different to her traditional onscreen depictions:
"I really like her role in the game, and to put her in a role that maybe we haven't seen as much. It's less of a damsel in distress, she's much more of a capable contributor, a risk-taker in this game."
I think this may be a different game, but there's a free Spiderman VR game out on Steam.
I can only assume it's either on/comming to PS4, since Sony published it.
Not being able to kill people might be a deal breaker for me. I just love killing people in games so much.
The longer story: Every Spider-Man game before this was multi-platform, even based off of Sony's own movie licence. I'm sure that this was Marvel's request, not Sony's. I'd put money on a Sony/Marvel deal that involved a rights trade for loaning their movie property back to Marvel. Sony gets exclusive game rights as part of the movie "partnership" arrangement. Just a thought. Sony did have Marvel in a corner there. It should have been easy to squeeze a game deal in there.Insomniac community manager confirms on resetera what happened:
If you want more about how Spider-Man game came to be, listen to Kotaku podcast of Jason Schrier interviewing Ted.

Long story short: Sony came to us and asked if we wanted to work with Marvel. Sony and Marvel let us decide what character/universe we wanted to make a game based on. We chose Spider-Man.
I’m gonna guess and say it comes out in November
LOL no chance.
Would be great.Looks great, hopefully it’s the Arkham equivalent for Spider-Man.
Sunset Overdrive was announced 2013 and released October 2014. I would like to see a similar gap here. Why?
Are you saying that Sony announces games several years too soon?
That this game should be released when the next Spider-Man man movie comes out?
Looks outstanding. With Insomniac at the helm you know the gameplay will be great.
Movie looks like ass though.Sony finally has a holiday game lol
Movie releasing close as well..
