The UnionVGF Weightlifting/Workout Thread

I thought it would be used for colder months when you can't ride outside. If you wouldn't be using it for a month straight, then yeah, a stationary bike is best.
Yea it would be year round. Mainly thinking of riding while watching baseball at night. Still plan on actual mountain biking during the weekend but would be nice to be able to get a quick exercise in on a week night.

So you've been shredding since November? That's a pretty long diet... But at the same time you'll dial it in much more secure I guess. I'll be going full no carb starting Monday, getting ready to see beyond this reality when carbs leave the body.

So, this thread doesn't seem to get any love.
I'm thinking it could be motivating if people showed some progression pics?
I'm currently at a plateu in regards to shredding, mostly because I feel I'm a bit to light at the moment and going further right now would mean looking like a skeleton come summer.
Anyway, my back is were it's easiest to see progression and the last place my fat disappears.
Will update on a weekly basis.

Nice development. For me, my lower back is the last place I lose fat, and I will never lose it all. Genetics. I've cut fat from 178 down to 158, that was the lowest I've been in decades, lost a little muscle, obviously, ripped everywhere but love handles.

Keep up with the progress pics. Not only will it show the forums your progress, it'll also hold you accountable and keep you going as well.

Yeah, love handles is a problem for me too, lower ab area also. If not into competition I'd much rather have fat left on ass (which most have until last weeks of diet) instead of abs and back but I've could have gotten worse genetics I guess.

Too lazy to take a proper picture right now, so here is a quick arm shot. Last time I measured biceps they were around 17" with a bit of a pump, but that was several months ago. I've been working on beefing up the forearms as well.

Anyone use free standing punching bags? Any decent ones you could recommend?

Few I've looked at have complaints for being more for kids than adults(lightweight). But I haven't got anywhere to hang a bag up in my current house

This is what I have, but it takes up a bit of room. You'd probably want to put it in a basement or garage unless you have a good dedicated workout room.

No room in the garage otherwise that would be perfect

So. ..weekly update got f***ed when my phone broke. Seems to be taking longer than I thought to fix it so I guess I just share a pic from my note 3, hard to get picture look good with crappy front camera. Hopefully get my phone back next week.
Back is getting grainier though and waist getting tighter, taking creatine make my body look a bit. ..stuffed though but not necessarily fat.

Great work as always. Swede, how old are you?

Thanks!
I got 34 this March, feel like 27 mentally (think my mind stopped aging around there), but body feels as old as my age lol, a bit of pain in shoulders and knees which wasn't there 10 years ago. Couldn't complain though, people my age usually have bigger body issues than that.

I love lifting, but if I had to do it over again, I wouldn't push 400+lbs of weight for deads and squats ever again. I was moving over that weight for years and my body isn't as bulletproof as it could be. I'd stick to 300 range for maxes and call it a day. I'd probably have 300 as my ceiling though all lifts. Bench I'd stop at 250.

Yeah, had to quit bench press for a few years because of pain and a shoulder impingement but working it into my workouts now. Semi light weights though. Seeing the teens lifting heavy with s*** form that would make my body break today is a bit strange but I guys they'll learn when they get older or when first injury comes.

Went biking a few times this weekend. Pretty good weather now that spring finally arrived.

Thanks!

As someone who is 35, yeah..... I wish I could take back a few years.

What type of biking do you do?
I have a hardtail mountain bike but most of the time just ride a gravel bike trail (old railroad track). They did build a new mountain bike trail nearby but haven't checked it out yet.

So to find other ways to ‘exercise’ without wearing out my joints (although I just can’t let go of squatting heavy :)), I’ve been continuing my cold tolerance training a la Wim Hof.

I got up to 7 minutes here...still working on it. It has the same effect on the body as high intensity exercise. Harder to find cold water now that it’s warming up though.

Abs for 45 min today, strange that working them out tends to blur them for a few hours right afterwards.
On point though, restricting fats this week to see what happens. Water retention is more noticeable when dieting which is kind of irritating but nothing a bit of sun can't fix.
