So how does going with bigger maps and bigger battles not make it more like Battlefield?

Map sizes are much bigger in Fortnite and PUBG.

Bungie isn't changing up the Halo formula because of Battlefield, a series that's been around since 2002.

Developers are looking at Fortnite and to a lesser extent PUBG, as inspiration right now. Not Battlefield.

Do you have any other Halo Infinite questions for me? I seem to be the foremost knowledge bearer on the game at the moment...

Battle Royale invented big maps apparently

Sounds like you are talking about your ass as usual

As the foremost knowledge bearer you should probably know that Bungie doesn't make Halo anymore

Nirvana didn't invent grunge.

Mother Love Bone, The Melvin's, Deep Six and a few others are actually the originators of grunge music, back in the mid to late 80's.

Yet Nirvana is largely responsible for changing the music scene in the early 90s.

See the parallel?

Again, write it down. The MP in this game will be your standard Halo MP. You think after all the bitching 343 endured with Halo 5's MP that they would create a MP mode that's even further of a departure from standard Halo MP? f*** outta here.

No chance in hell. None.

Stop listening to message boards. They give a terrible representation of the overall player base.

Halo 5s multiplayer was a success.

I'm certain there will be classic maps/modes as well as new. I don't see how BR would work for Halo's playstyle, but maybe something that includes enemy AI to fight during the run to the center? We have no Idea if BR modes will still be all the rage by the time the game is released.

why is it with Halo or Gears this formula is bad, but with Uncharted or Gods OF War people give it a pass?

I'm not seeing the comparison. Halo has been around longer than any of the games you mentioned. You'd think by now the series would have evolved a bit. It's a shooter at its core and should remain that way but throwing in some RPG elements wouldn't hurt.

Uncharted has a deep roster of characters that i care about. Can't say the same for Halo. It's Master Chief and that's about it. But yet, even Uncharted mixes up its gameplay with shooting and puzzle solving. God of War was completely revamped so that doesn't fit here.

If you don't think they've evolved Halo over the years, then you aren't who we should be listening to for the series' direction. It's not important to you. There is a reason portions of the community lose their s*** with each iteration.

I think BR influence and BR are two different things. I don't think the next Halo will have a BR mode but I do think it'll be heavily influenced by it.

I wouldn't be surprised if Detroit Become Human 2 gets some BR influence.

They need to end MC’s story in a way that makes sense, and then give us a way to role play and customize the new character(s).

Personally, I still want to see a Halo multiplayer that involves massive ship battles with large crews and boarding parties.

I've always wanted a large scale conquest type mode in Halo. With the vehicles and good gun play, i think it would be a lot of fun. Grabbing a pelican and flying over an objective and dropping 6 of your buddies while gunner provides cover fire out the back of the pelican just seems like a lot of fun. That's just me though.

The Master Chief is Eternal.

Fan outcry (towards multiplayer) has always been centered around the idea that 343 is no longer innovating and leading the arena shooter genre, and is instead copying and modifying from other leading series. (mention sprint on any halo discussion and see what happens)

Based on that, and with their implicit pledge to return halo to a more "classic" formula, I don't believe a royale mode is at all within their plans. Ignoring for a moment how such a mode would even work in the first place, I'm not sure the xbox needs a competing royale based game, with none but pubg being a console exclusive, no other platform has an advantage in that genre.

My thoughts are microsoft then doesn't need an extra source, 343 gives the impression that they would rather return to unique innovations rather than imitate, and really, personally and full of bias, I don't think for one second that it fits the halo DNA or should even be considered when compared almost literally every other direction they could take the series. In every variation I can think of, I can only see it being a waste of the games setting and an insult to its history.

So to be succinct, I hope they don't do it.

Can you link us to 343's implicit pledge to return to a more classic formula?

The problem is that the Halo community is very split on things like sprint. Tommy hates it and I love it. He wants the old slow style, and I love the quicker, yet still very Halo style.

Playing the old games can feel unnaturally slow. Some of us prefer the more Lore accurate Spartans and others don't need it.

I definitely disagree that they were chasing trends. 343i games never played like COD as is the accusation. That's just silly. 343i did a marvelous job modernizing the controls while retaining the magic of the old games, imo.

343i needs to tighten up the story, and evolve the gameplay scenario. That's all, imo.

The problem is that the Halo community is...

If there's one thing I've learned this generation surrounding multiplayer titles it's this. The thoughts and opinions of any games community is largely worthless.

I don't believe developers value the opinion of their community in any meaningful way.

This is what matters.

This is the data that 343i cares about.

I also think you (not you specifically) would be crazy to think Halo Infinite multiplayer is going to go back to it's roots.

I really shouldnt have to do this.jpg
One cannot link to something not explicitly said. I only have the blog posts on waypoint and their tone, along with the art style in the trailer. Separate bits taken together to possibly mean one thing.

Also I'd like to point out I don't hate sprint or the new gameplay. I enjoy the spartan abilities and such, I just think maybe sprint should be removed from the arena modes (only) because of its affect on map size. It tends to stretch maps out with too much empty space. In halo 5's case it seems like there's too many spots where getting caught is an assured death from any range, whereas in previous games the time to kill and map design saved people from longer range engagements.

not to say that was perfect either. Blood gulch isn't as fun as people seem to think.

I'm not sure where these views on me came from. If one thing can be assumed about me, make me the "likes splinter cell too much" guy.

I agree they aren't going back. Nor should they, honestly. They do listen to their community, however, it's so split that it would be impossible to placate them all. In that way you are right, but they are pretty actively listening.

3rd paragraph in says enough for me. Though in the same post they do say "new/unexpected directions" & "inviting new players," and at this stage it's impossible for me to know what that means. I can only take my own perspective on the series throughout its history, the developers own words, and fan reaction over the years.

I think it's ignorant to deny fan input in game development. Halo fans by and large want at least a return to a classic art style. The style in the trailer is proof enough that someone in the company thought that was valid input. If the entire look of a game can be influenced, then gameplay conventions can too.
