Assassin's Creed Odyssey

I hate to continue being such a downer but damn does that gameplay look goofy.

I feel like ubi's regressed in animation quality, which should be nonsense when for honor (another game with similar locked style of combat) looks so fluid.

Not to disparage anyone who won't, but I've settled on passing this one by.

I’ve settled on getting it because I just enjoyed Origins way too much and this looks like an extension of that game.

I’m also intrigued by the combat changes, building up adrenaline and using cool abilities like the spartan kick seems fun. Also love the new colorful setting.

Decided I don’t think I can get gold edition though, all my credit is at GameStop or digital on Xbox and it’s just too expensive. If I could somehow make that BB credit I would get it since I still have GCU.

The adrenaline stuff sounds like a cool wrinkle. I was very disappointed in origins lack of attention to stealth and that plus the skill trees sound like good ways of making up for it.

I’m really skeptical of the season pass. The pass in Origins is also $40 but the content only adds up to $44 and that’s including some super over priced weapon packs.

Will probably be cheaper to just buy what you’re interested in individually, which makes no sense. The point of the pass is to save money!

I'll probably pre-order it at Best Buy and get the $10 in rewards points if the reviews look promising.

Well, you can climb on a giant penis. I'll add a point to my metacritic prediction.

I'm surprised with the high reviews so far. Good thing I didn't make an avatar bet with someone like that one guy did...

A few excerpts:

"A glorious sum of newly implemented RPG systems, refined traditional series beats and boasting one of the most entertaining stories in recent memory, Assassin's Creed Odyssey is simply the best in the series and one of the finest open-world adventures available." - PSU (95)

"While there are definite rough edges, Odyssey sets a new bar for Assassin’s Creed games and holds its own in the eternal debate over the best open-world roleplaying games ever." - IGN (92)

"Assassin’s Creed Odyssey aims high in its attempts to blend innovative additions with returning features. The execution might be uneven, but Ubisoft Quebec ultimately strikes a successful balance among the many parts. The story is compelling, both as a hero’s journey and in the way it ties into the series’ wider lore. Exploring the world is fun, combat is empowering, and getting epic loot is a thrill. That solid core formula carries Odyssey a long way, but like Icarus and his wax wings, it’s not enough to reach the bright star on the horizon." (Game Informer, 83)

"Assassin's Creed Odyssey is far from perfect, as the combat feels clunky, the voice acting is all over the place and the late game level requirements feels really restricting, but despite all that it's hard not to adore the overall experience. The scope and feel of the world are simply amazing – the depiction of Greece is extremely beautiful – and thanks to the stellar exploration mode and the varied array of activities, it's also way more fun to explore than before." (Gamer.no, 80)

Have mine pre ordered. Can’t wait for Friday.

On a negative note I see UBI are really getting into charging for early access these days. Usually the US release date was a Tuesday and the EU release date the following Friday. Now it’s all Friday and you need to pay 20 more to get it Tuesday. That’s a crappy move there.

It’s just the game and season pass to get it early right? I don’t think there is an additional charge, Origins plus season pass is still a hundred bucks to this day.

I’m hoping this season pass is more worth it with the inclusion of AC3 remastered.

No I think there is more. I was looking through the editions last night when I ordered it. The most expensive one was 120. The next most expensive was 100. The only difference between the two I could see on the store was that one gave you the game on Tuesday and the other on Friday.

I would have won the score guessing anyway

Do the characters fatigue faster while wearing all that armor? It looks sort of strange seeing a dude climbing buildings in full Spartan bronze armor.

Why limit yourself to "upcoming," though? That eliminates several of the greatest games of this generation. I don't think Ubi can claim that.

Okay, give me 3 upcoming titles that'll be played more than once a week (if even that).
I would ask you do the same for Ubisoft as well.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate
Yoshi's Crafted World
Fire Emblem
Yoshi's Mansion 3
Bayonetta 3
Metroid Prime 4
Pokemans

Assassin's creed

That's not a game; that's a series. I don't think any Assassin's Creed game from this gen ranks alongside Zelda or Mario as GOTG.
