Life

Found out today my twin brother has to have open heart surgery to replace his aortic valve. I swear when you get older life just becomes one f***ed up experience after another. Guess I was nieve thinking it wouldn't be.

Damn, that sucks. Your family is getting hit with some severe medical problems. Unfair, but what are you gonna do, except accept it (because no choice) and do your best to maintain courage, dignity, and whatever else is of value to you. I could be Pollyanna and point out that at least there are operations available, whereas in the past, he just would've had a heart attack and died, but I suppose that's not much help.

When is his surgery scheduled?

Life is a series of unfortunate events. It seems we can't have too long of feeling great until something comes along to try us. Got to keep a positive attitude for your brother and for yourself.

He doesn't even see the surgeon till the 12th of December to get things set up. Seems like things would move quicker with something this serious but what do I know.

How did he know something was wrong?
Pain in his chest, arms and shoulders at same time. So they did a stress test and Echocardiogram. Sad part is they had the results a month ago but didn't see him till yesterday to tell him what was going on.

The medical system is filled with long waits. That has been my experience. I remember being in the hospital, and most of the time, I was just trying to be patient. Not a patient. Just patient. I was always waiting for them to get around to something. I know the medical system is full of sick people with complicated issues and limited staff, but it can be frustrating having to wait. The waiting can be the worst part of the whole ordeal, sometimes, because all you've got to do is just sit there and worry.

Anyhow, seems to me like they should've called him right away, with results like that. My doctor always calls immediately about lab results, even when they're benign. Even my vet calls immediately about test results. Otoh, I guess they don't view it as an emergency, so that's good, I suppose.

Well, I hope he does well. I'm sure he's freaked out. I would be. Open-heart surgery is no minor procedure. Having been through what you've been through, you're probably a good source of support for him.

Yes the waiting is frustrating. I'm doing my best to be there for him. Thank you

Well not the news I hoped for. The cancer is back and is through out my liver. So back on chemo starting next week. He said it should hopefully knock it out again like last time.

Damn. I'm sorry, man.

If there's anything you need, just ask. We were here for you last round, and we're here for you this round. I'll definitely say some prayers for you.

Be good to yourself.

Hazard71 any updates my friend?
Still on chemo. I have had 8 or 9 so far. My last scans after 6 treaments showed some lesions gone and some had shrunk. Also it is still only in my liver and has not spread anywhere else luckily. So going good I guess. Hard to stay positive after being in remission and then it coming back so fast. I'm doing my best though.

Thanks for asking and sorry I have not said much.

Yeah, good luck, Hazard. We're with you.

Sorry I don't post much and update you all. I got scans after my 12th treatment last week. The cancer has not spread but I do have a new lesion in my liver and the other 3 are slightly brigther for cancer. So a disappointing set back. He is gonna add another drug Avastin to help hopefully get rid of it.

Scared but I'm not done fighting. Thank all of you for your support.
