Help Picking a New TV

We moved a year ago and since then I've been through a number of displays. The first of March I purchased a 75" Sony xbr900e wich arrived with severe uniformity issues. Sony immediately replaced my unit with the new 900f that has an excellent panel- this is what I use in my theater room.

Fast forward to black Friday and I picked up a vizio p65-f1 for the kids game room. This display exhibited severe color banding so I returned it to best buy. They had the tcl 65r15 for $799 so I brought it home and it's what we've settled on, love the roku os which is very kid friendly. It has moderate dse, but what I've come to learn is ALL lcd displays exhibit this issue to varying degrees.

I'll be Blunt, I utterly despise lcd technology. Any tech that requires tricks like fald zones to achieve decent contrast is a joke IMHO. And depending on the number of zones, blooming is something you will contend with as well.

OLED's where it's at if funds allow, again my OPINION.

I was using an Infocus IN83 dlp projector mated with a 120" cinema vision screen in our previous home ... I miss it every day. It was the most immersive movie/gaming experience I've ever had. I strongly recommend going the projector route if your room and budget allow.

I apologize for the long winded post... just passing along my experiences with some of the displays being discussed, along with possible alternatives. Good luck!

The Sony 65Z9D(which launched at 5500)
Is down to 1999...
Best LED ever made plus has 3D.

What do you think of the updated version?

Sony XBR65Z9F 65-Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart BRAVIA LED TV (2018 Model)

Z9D smokes it with much more dimming zone clusters 650(65 inch) vs 105(65 inch),Plus thanks to the Black Light Master Drive EVERY LED can be dimmed unlike any other LED resulting in thousands of dimmable LED's.
Much better contrast ratio and 3D.

This. OLEDs wipe the floor with LCDs, always had plasmas before OLED so luckily never had to suffer the drawbacks of LCD in my home theater. And of course my daughters room has an LCD, can’t do the uniformity issues, blooming and grey blacks.

Weird, so the older version is better??

Z9D...but apparently it has a game mode..?
No its has good/low input lag.
Its not as good in 1080p unless you set it to 1080p/120hz via custom PC settings OR 1080p content through a upscaling device like a receiver(what I do for the Switch) Everything I feed it is 4K or fake 4K so no issues.

Booting up ie not turning on and a clicking noise instead.
Not turning off.

Faulty looking motion(not sure if its a defect or processing)
Compatibility issues with AVR's.
Sometimes updating the TV or AVR didn't fix so I call this a defect.

All I can think of right now.

I could add no Dolby Vision, wonky Local Dimming/HDR and inaccurate colors but that's design not defect.

The only issue I seem to have is when trying to use the native apps (YouTube, Netflix, Prime) they get some connection error, mine Netflix may but YouTube won’t, even if it is a signal indicating there’s a connection

*edit for below*

The dimming issue may be the eco setting, might be turned on and at a very low setting, I just turn it off when gaming

No the dimming is a issue with the tech used in the Q9fn.

I don't have that set but I do have a Sony 4K TV and to be honest I don't even put it in game mode, I think it's rated at 88ms or so outside of game mode (25ms in game mode) but I really don't notice any delay so I just leave it on standard. Others may be more sensitive to that kind of thing but I have no issues playing fighting games etc in standard picture mode.
