Video from the guy who originally broke the games cancellation

Speaking to VGC in an upcoming interview, studio head Atsushi Inaba said it “wasn’t easy” to watch as publisher Microsoft received the brunt of fan ire following the cancellation news.

“Both sides failed,” Inaba said, and ultimately, the game “didn’t do all of the things that we needed to do as a developer”.

“Watching fans getting angry at Microsoft over the cancellation wasn’t easy for us to watch. Because the reality is, when any game in development can’t get released it’s because both sides failed.

“I think there are areas where we could’ve done better and I’m sure there are areas that Microsoft as a publishing partner wish that they could’ve done better. Because nobody wants a game to be cancelled.”
Also don’t expect a Switch Revival
It had been suggested by some outlets this year that Scalebound could be revived as a Nintendo Switch title. However, VGC understands that there are no plans for a Switch revival and, in fact, Microsoft is the holder of the Scalebound IP.

“No, I wouldn’t say our experience with Scalebound influenced us to go towards self-publishing,” he said. “Quite frankly, the reality is that we’ve had plenty of titles cancelled in the past: that’s part and parcel of what comes with making video games.”

Didn't they spend the funding they received from MS on projects other than Scalebound? If so, then no sh*t.

From the time this project started until cancel, I think they put out more than 5 games. That tells you something right there.

The same reason what happens with TFLO back in the old OG XBOX.

It doesn't tell you what you want it to tell you since that could easily be spun the other way. Platinum were fast and efficient long before they ever started Scalebound so why would them still being that way mean they were up to shenanigans?

Some desperately wanted to blame Platinum and some desperately want to blame Microsoft based on their own biases. Its pretty unlikely its just one sides fault and that is exactly what we are being told right here.

Weren’t most of those games mostly licensed and rated like in the sevens??? I just remembered being siked for Korra and then heartbroken 😔

Selective. Should read the whole topic with the Twitter links hinting at PG doing some very dodgy s*** rather than just one post when the cancellation was first announced.
But yank always seems to want to super defend platinum on this

There is one tweet saying they did...something. Even if you consider it reliable there has never been anyone saying they stole the money for other projects.

I only want to defend them because a random theory shouldn't be considered anything more than a theory. Of course it could be true but time has clouded peoples memories and they are thinking it was something more.

Oh. I forgot about TFLO. It actually made me a little sad hearing that name again. [True Fantasy Live Online] I was WAY more saddened/upset by that cancellation than Scalebound.

That game looked lame AF from the start, I was not even a little bummed when they gave it the axe, if anything I was surprised it got as far along as it did. The protag looked like an emo scene kid from 2003...

there was no hype for the game and definitely no love for it in comments for their videos on YouTube... I was stoked, seeing this at e3 during the conference was epic.

The game was panned by media and gamers. It only became popular after it was canceled as console war ammo.

I should add that I thought it looked cool personally.

I suppose I should say, for as lame as I thought it looked, it certainly did MS no favors cancelling it and even if it hadn't set the world on fire had it been released, it very well could have been more beneficial to just let them finish it and push it out the door than the flak they got for canning it...

nothing against crackdown 3 but I’d rather be in the time line where it got canceled and this had survived the snap/blip of Microsoft

Is all I know is that MS is seriously lacking in the melee centric, 3rd person action game space and I want that to change. They don't need to exactly copy God of War, but I want more 3rd person action games with brutal, violent combat gaul dernit!

Well it was PG that also took half the blame. They contributed to royally f***ing up that game release.
