But who is it???

My guess is the chip will be used to entrap Cortana. Or maybe that AI from the end of Halo 5 will tag along. I doubt that last guess though.

The text when Cheif inserts the chip says something about weapons, or maybe they are showing that the suit is checking to make sure enemy AI is not on board.

I'm curious to see this new engine. We haven't really heard much about it have we? I wonder if it will be good and flexible enough to be used as a proprietary engine for other MS 1st party games.

As long as they don't EA it up and force it on games that the engine clearly isn't suited for.

Halo 5 isn't really a showcase on the x imo, if they're doing 4k @ 60fps I'm not sure it'll be the leap I'm guessing they're aiming for tbh
Halo 5 looks muuuch better in 4k than it does at 1080p. If it's running like that, on X, on an older engine, then one built around a new engine, for a much more powerful spec, then it should quite easily be 4k 60fps.

Ah, see, I thought we talked about the x version. Scarlett version, of course, I'm with you.

Halo 5 on Xbox One X is one of the best looking games this gen.

Best?

It looks decent and the real-time cutscenes look great.... but best? Sorry 'Chief, this ain't it...

Looks current gen in high resolution and missing the anti aliasing.
IMO

I guess it would depend on if actual gameplay looks like that, honestly. I'd agree in saying it looks "current" if you mean what they pull off in Cutscenes, which is damn near pre-rendered sometimes anyway. It's really hard to say how it looks by the small scale of the scene, but the lighting is actually looking pretty intricate if it's all real-time and not baked. the Textures were very high-rez too.

If the in-game models look as good as the Pilot then that's pretty awesome. Having small detail in shadows and geometry while playing will be a step up.

We also need to consider that that demo ain't running on the console because it isn't even finalized. My guess is that is running at or just above maybe One X spec depending on how good this new engine is. It's certainly attainable for a cutscene (though DF did say it was 60fps, i believe, and Halo 5's cutscenes didn't match this at 30fps).

Since I've seen quite a few people out there ask, "What's been confirmed about Halo Infinite so far?" so I've decided to build out a list and break it all down:

  • Release date: Holiday 2020 release for the entire Xbox family of devices, including Project Scarlett and Windows PCs
  • When does it take place in the universe: It follows the Master Chief's story some time after Halo 5: Guardians' conclusion
  • LAN: Halo Infinite will support LAN
  • Splitscreen: Splitscreen is up and running internally
  • Back in Black: Black undersuits will be in the game
  • Flighting Programs: These opt-in flights will start small and slowly expand out until release
  • PC: Flighting may come a little bit later for PC players, but we're treating it as a first-class citizen
  • Player Customization: If you liked the level of armor customization options in Halo: Reach, you will be pleased
  • SR 152: Players who hit SR 152 in Halo 5: Guardians will receive a token of appreciation in Halo Infinite
  • Pro Team: There is an internal Pro Team for Halo Infinite

PC Flighting

If everything goes according to plan, our first flight for Halo: Reach on MCC PC will be next week to a small subsection of registered Halo Insiders. We're starting more modestly because we've got quite a few levers to pull and we want to ensure our delivery pipeline runs smoothly, our communications are clear, and that participants can properly provide their feedback on the build. Since there are so many pieces and levers that need testing, verification, and appropriate approvals, we need to take our time to ensure we're sending out a quality flight to our Halo Insiders. The team has a build which appears to be a strong candidate, but it's still in the middle of going through the test process as I type (and as you read). That said, we're still targeting to release next week and will be sharing the details with the public, so even if you aren't selected for the flight, you'll know what's happening. Stay tuned for more details throughout!
