So there are some real rumblings about Sony bidding on Remedy, as in they want to acquire them. This is going to suck if that's true because if there's going to be a Alan Wake 2, it will only be for PS5. But on the other hand, MS had their chance to add them to XGS for a long time.

I’m sure Sony is waiting to see how Control does. My guess they may partner up with them on some time exclusivities or work with them on some second party like project.

Look regardless of how people "feel" Alan Wake didn't set the world on fire and I am sure when it comes again it will be no different. Remedy has a bad track record on games that didn't set with people after the MAX PAYNE.

Yeah they get a ton of love on message boards but it doesn't translate to sales, I don't think they are worth picking up myself unless they come really cheap. Sony already has several great studios who do an awesome job with single player story based games and I'm all for them picking up another studio that can add to that but I'd rather they picked up a studio like Insomniac who makes games with personality, Remedy seems like every game they make is some dark story with boring characters and that's not really needed. I know insomniac would cost a lot more than Remedy but I also think they'd offer a better return on investment. They are pretty much associated with Sony anyway so it wouldn't make that much of an impact on other platforms to lose their services.

Alan Wake was a very good game that should have been a bigger hit but Microsoft sent the game to die releasing it the same day as Red Dead Redemption. Microsoft's inability to create an audience for this and their unwillingness to see its potential was one of their many problems with their first party.

A hypothetical situation where they partnered with Sony would probably see the game becoming a bigger success as Sony would build the hype.

I don't think it would matter even if it did release on a different date.

But what if Sony were to publish it and release it the same day as red dead? I’m my looney opinion Alan Wake is to MS as The Order 1886 is to Sony

Aren’t we all at the point now where we own all the consoles anyway? If it only came to PS5 I would just play it on PS5.

From what I remember though, Remedy has said they want to remain 3rd party and don’t want to be restricted by platform.

It may not have but that is a terrible way to start. Given that we are still talking about the game all these years later it shows the love some have for it.

Microsoft hasn't exactly been pumping out hits the past 10 years so its not like you can give the benefit of the doubt.

That's possible yeah. They already have a timer exclusivity deal going on for that too. I just find it sad that MS has not taken the opportunity to add them to XGS. Their cinematic third person games would be a great fit for them and Game Pass. Also these people know their tech, could do great things for Xbox. Especially now that it seems Remedy has their s*** together, since Control is releasing on time without any real issues.

Then again, Control is basically QB2 and uses many assets of the game as well it seems.

Yeah it's a shame because AW was great. The dlc was fine too, the standalone American Nightmare wasn't too great however and QB really was just way too short. Those live action episodes should have been game chapters.

I guess I can't blame MS then, their track record indeed isn't stellar. On the other hand, neither is that of Undead Labs and Compulsion, yet they did acquire them. My guess is that Remedy is much more expensive. Still with all that said I wish this "renewed" Remedy was part of Xbox. I can't deny that if a Alan Wake 2 is made and exclusive to PS5.... I'm gonna be sad. Even when I still will be playing it, since I do intend to get a PS5 this time around.

Ah yes, but Playground said the same thing. Wanting to remain independent and then that E3 we all know what happened. :)

Both Matt and ZhugeX on Era have said there is merit to this, it could mean that Sony have been considering bidding on them, but decided not to, or are indeed interested but I could take a long time before we really know it. There also have been visits from Shuhei to Remedy and vice versa.

And yeah you're right, I'll just play it on PS5 then but it's just odd, Remedy exclusive to Sony. Even when I knew better I kept hoping it would become a Xbox studio, I think they are a great fit. Especially if they get the resources they need, plus I find that MS needs more AAA games. New IPs at that that aren't Halo, Gears or Forza.

Phil took visits to them all the time when they were making QB and Remedy also came to Redmond to do work with QB filming the live action stuff. There really is no out in the open things going on that says they are most definitely being bought by Sony.

However the reason I believe they will is because that is the type of thing Sony does because they like that “I gotcha” type of moment for their fans. It’s why we had the “game sharing” video from Sony.

If it’s a bidding type of thing Microsoft better be apart of it. You can’t just let Remedy get scooped up by Sony without a fight. Microsoft’s argument is going to be that Ninja Theory covers the single player experience for them. But one studio out of 14-15 doing that type of game is not really sound business.

At the end of the day I fully expect Alan Wake 2 to be on Sony’s stage next year at E3 while they announce PS5 and it wouldn't surprise me if they also announce Remedy joining their stable of studios.

I just hope they don't make the mistake they did with Xbox One as in how it doesn't support every headset you can imagine. I have been looking for great wireless headsets and when I finally found them I found out that they are only fully wireless on PS4 and PC and still need a cable to that damn controller adapter thing. I don't understand why so many of these wireless headsets really aren't wireless at all on Xbox. I don't know why MS did this.

I use these, full wireless and great sound. The touchey buttons are a bit cumbersome and it takes a bit of time learning how to not accidentally press them, but otherwise a great headset imo

Since I have Game Pass now, decided to give Ori and the Blind Forest a try. Outside of the game looking gorgeous I'm just not seeing what the hype is over this game. Controls aren't good and all of the attack colors look the same. I might as well be playing a bullet hell game because I while my attacks are spinning around to hit enemies I can't see their attacks coming at me to dodge. Might give it a try again but otherwise a big meh for me.

I loved it after I got into it more but I did feel a little disappointment at first, it seems like it's more difficult than it should be with the way some of the traversal is set up and you take damage too easily but you get used to it.

Try to stick with it until after you beat the flood in the Ginso tree. That was when it started to shine for me and I "got" the Ori bug.

I don't think I'm to the Ginso tree yet but probably close. Tried it again last night after a day off and I just don't think it's for me. Ended up switching to The Messenger, which is pretty much an OG Ninja Gaiden clone and loving that. It's on Game Pass but seems to be PC only? Odd considering it's on PS4 and Switch I think.

Problem is your consumers wanted another, been asking for it for years. Then MS dumps it. Hardly sends a good message to your loyal fanbase.

Wholeheartedly agree. One of my biggest peeves with MS this gen and last, is that if the IP didn't do Gears, Forza or Halo numbers, it was abandoned. They just didn't stick with many of their owned or assciated IPs.

There is no reason that Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon with work couldn't have become MS version of Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest respectively. There is not reason why MS couldn't work out a deal with Crytek for Ryse sequels. Same with Sunset Overdrive and Insomniac or Quantum Break/Alan Wake with Remedy. Fable is off somewhere is IP purgatory. Same with Perfect Dark.

Age of Empires and MS Flight Simulator making a comeback are legit surprising for me given MS recent history.

I'm all for them acquiring new talent and IPs but if you don't develop and support what you have, it seems to me to be a waste of talent and resources.

Hopefully with Phil at the head for a full console cycle that changes but it remains to be seen.

But they all dump IP's that didn't do well, or close studios. DriveClub and The Order 1886 for example (I would love a sequel for both). But MS has less studios, so they can't really afford to drop so many, where Sony can.

I know that Alan Wake 2 would do good. I also think Recore 2 would do good with 3-4 years of development time on top of the existing engine and content. But then you have smaller games like Crackdown where they have a small cult following, and they have made 3 of them. State of Decay, another IP with a cult following with big support from MS, but with non-AAA sales and budget.

Like you said, I hope Phil can accomplish what he is claiming he is doing. I was pumped to hear about Flight Simulator coming back, especially to console. Age of Empires is long overdue.

Yep.

Phil doesn't want single player experiences, though. Plus gameopass performance will be a big factor now too, not just sales.

Lost Odyssey 2 could have been great. All that series needed was a bit of modernizing.

Microsoft was always unwilling to commit to series if they weren't massive hits. In the case of Alan Wake its pretty confusing because if they weren't happy with how it did I can't imagine why they would think Quantum Break was going to do any better.

Sure, sure. Just give us the games, Phil.
