Enjoyed the game quite a bit. I'm not a huge multiplayer though. I did enjoy the bootcamp too. Graphics are great.

The knock on previous games was that it was too grey/brown. Now the game is colorful and people still complain. Lol

That was a complaint in the past? I think those tones fit nicely with the world of gears.

Not on the PC.
Gears 4 also has this problem on PC.
Yes it’s on PC. And correct Gears 4 didn’t but Gears 5 does. Already enabled it, as has my brother in law and others online. If your copy isn’t showing it then you have a setting wrong in your Windows 10 OS.

So the reason... And you can take from my hesitation, that I'm not quickly just saying yes. The issue with 4-player is--I agree with you. I'm a big co-op gamer, and everything I do is co-op based. The problem with four-player co-op is that it's chaos. When you played that Halo experience for the first time, I bet you didn't understand exactly what was going on at all the right times. Because while you're grabbing ammo, somebody's triggering the event that causes the thing... you know what I mean?

There's a technical issue with four-player which is you need much bigger worlds. One of the things you'll notice from Gears 1, 2, and then 3, is that 3 had much bigger levels because, 'Now I've got to find places for four people to take cover.' So it's much more challenging to build. But it's also much more challenging to tell a story. If you watch Gears 3, and you watch the cinematics... Like that was one thing I had to work with [Writer Karen Traviss] on, is she just started to do this round robin thing where everybody got one line. Because you could never have the characters alone. It always had to be four people in a scene, it always had to be four people in a moment. So all four people expressed an opinion.

So when we went back to Gears 4, the first thing we did was we shrank down to two-player co-op. Part of it was the technology but part of it was storytelling. It was just really hard to tell a really compelling story when nobody can go to the bathroom alone because they gotta bring three friends with them every time, you know what I mean? So you're not going to have those moments where two people can be like, 'Hey this is a thing,' right? So as we look to expand that we look at creating better and bigger offerings. Escape is three-player, Horde is five-player. We have co-op in spades, it's just the notion of four-player co-op campaign... I feel like as fun as it is, it also dilutes the story quite a bit. It's walking that line. There's lots of co-op for you and your friends in Gears 5, there will not be four-player campaign co-op though. Sorry.

I am fine with 3 player co-op, and if the Story is the reason, then I think that is was the best decision to make. But....and this is just me thinking out loud, do you think that going with 3 player instead of 4 player allows them to hit the 60fps/4K, where as adding another player to the screen made that more difficult? At least on Xbox One X.

I’m not a Gears multiplayer guy...that is until now. I had more fun in Arcade mode than any other shooter this gen except for Halo 5. More fun than Battlefield or Overwatch. I went back to try the traditional Gears modes during the tech test and still didn’t like it. Arcade mode is a blast as every weapon has its place. Wall bouncing isn’t effective. Yes, I get why Gears fans despise it. It’s not Gears. What it is, is something I’ll continue to play. I played more Arcade tech test than Gears 1, 2, 3 and 4 multiplayer combined.

Also noted that controls and shooting are tighter. Went back to Gears 4 campaign as a warm up and it feels sluggish in comparison. Really looking forward to seeing how the new tighter controls and shooting translate to the campaign.

I agree the aiming and shooting feels like a marked improvement. Switching to a recoil based system opposed to the previous title's bloom was a good choice, that said I feel like the TTK is a bit to quick now for a Gears game...

I liked arcade mode because I could actually kill others.

What is different about Arcade mode? I haven’t played MP since Gears 3 it was decent with friends I just didn’t stick with it.
