Mixer being Shut down

I’ve watched plenty of videos for info but not more than a few minutes of someone streaming a game unless its some sort of premier for something new. However, there are some guys who I find entertaining and watch even if I’m not even playing or own the game shown in the video. Destiny players like Datto and Mtashed are guys who give good info while remaining fun to watch. The always entertaining Mr. Fruit plays a ton of different games and always makes me laugh and there is this awesome guy named SuperGT who uploads awesome races of Gran Turismo Sport and Forza who also races in real life. I don’t even own those sim racers and yet I’ll watch a 20min race because his commentary and race gameplay is so much fun to watch.
Not gunha get much info from a few minutes, though.

The great tging about streams for a consumer is it is just somebody playing a game. Youtube videos can be misleading cause you cut and edit and ultimately show only what you want to show, same as the advertisement trailers.

A stream is just a gamer playing a game, flaws and all. A far better yard stick for judging a game than a video/written review or marketing videos.

Well, I guess it depends on the stream because most of those I've seen are just a gamer playing while talking about random stuff with no real game info beyond what's on screen. A dedicated video from a competent creator will touch on the details of the game while showing examples on-screen and give a detailed explanation of how it all works. I play mostly single player games and I find edited content creator videos more useful than streamers who are just playing and chatting with their community. But perhaps I just haven't found the right streamer, not that I've been looking.

I'm not saying you only watch a stream. You watch the stream to see what the game is actually like. The whole idea here is to get a complete picture. Just doing one thing only tives a piece of that picture. So, you do it all. You read the review, you watch the youtube lverview video, you watch the game being played in real time.

But to be fair, for singleplayer games it can be tough. On the one hand you want to see what it is actually like. But on the other hand you don't want the story spoilt.

I like to watch people who are either entertaining, so it's no different than watching a show or movie, or someone that is a pro at a game. For example, I like fighting games but terrible at it. I love watching Maximilian Dood play them though.

I don’t get streaming popularity but I’m not going to judge it. I sometimes have weird taste in games or entertainment. I think streaming is probably more socially acceptable than Hedon’s taste in porn.

About Ninja...think of this as new age advertising. What this shows me is Microsoft is increasing yet transitioning their advertising budget. This will drive people to Mixer where Microsoft can advertise Xbox, Game Pass and Xcloud...and likely provide integration between Mixer and Xcloud in the future. No doubt they’ll allow people to jump into games that they’re watching on Mixer instantaneously.

I don’t care about Ninja streaming but I do like how aggressive Microsoft is getting with gaming. Further evidence that Nadella and Amy Hood are opening up the pocket book far more than most are anticipating. They’re all in when it comes to investing in gaming.

Only time I watch a stream is if it's a preview of a game that's not out yet, once a game is released I have no desire to watch someone else play it when I could be doing it myself.

I don't know if its actually 50 million but I could believe it.

It's insane what people get paid to do something that adds no value to society, there are people trying to cure cancer that make nothing compared to this.

Yep, these people are not only big for marketing, it is almost a requirement now. Video game publishers are regularly inviting them to try their games out before launch, usually paying their entire trip. Some of the popular folks in the Rainbow Six Siege and Battlefield communities are trying out the new COD game.

Suddenly I see a guy who I follow for Battlefield talking about the new COD game. Honestly it got me interested in the game.

EA spends a lot of money on "EA Influencers". https://venturebeat.com/2017/07/27/electronic-arts-is-spending-even-more-on-influencers/

The same could go for those trying to cure anything? Those individuals are essentially a developer and the ones funding it are the publishers taking in the fruits of their labor, at an exponentially live or die price (at least here in the states)

It's just sad to see things like this, I mean if someone is dumb enough to pay him that much I don't blame him for taking it but our values as a society are totally screwed up. I know they see it as an investment and believe he'll bring them more money somehow than they are paying him but it still just seems so wrong.

The thing that baffles me is viewers who will flock to donate money to him. I can understand doing so to someone on Twitch or wherever if you like their content and you want them to keep making it but when they are making millions? I don't get it.

Because that is the wrong way to look at it. You say no value to society, but a chunk lf society see it valuable enough to pay a sub to these folks just so they can do what they do.

If entertainment isn't valuable to society then why have I not seen you say this about movies and actors?

I think younger people see gaming as much more of a social thing than us "more experienced" folks do. I know personally I'm fine leaving my mic on mute 99% of the time. I game to game, not to chat. If friends happen to be on, that's cool but it isn't necessary for me.

There's also a different dynamic with famous people. Before the internet, we'd simply understand that the likelihood of us meeting someone famous was really low. You could write someone famous a letter (lol) and maybe someone in their PR team would send you a form letter back. Today, people have been brought up with "comment boxes" on everything. The people on the evening news are putting up their twitter handle now. Personally, I'd never even think of tweeting at the person doing the evening news. Why would I? Younger people though I think don't have that mentality baked in.

They are all over paid, someone making $20 million for 3 months of work is insane and I said that when Jim Carrey was the first actor to make that. Entertainment is fine, being paid well for being an entertainer is fine but the money these people make is just hard to justify. The President of the United States makes $400k a year, the average doctor makes under $300k(varies widely depending on specialty) average cancer researcher under $60k, the average teacher makes under $60k yet many entertainers make more in a few months than any of these people will earn in several lifetimes? it just doesn't make sense. I know how they "justify" it because it's based on the money they are bringing in but it still just seems wrong.

If he's asking people to donate to him while he's making that much he's a piece of s*** unless he's donating a ton of money to charity himself. So many youtubers ask people to donate to their patreon. I don't mind if they actually create content but there are people who strictly do reactions that ask for money, they don't make any skits, vlogs, short films or anything original all they do is short reactions and people will pay them enough that they can buy a new house etc it's crazy. I do wonder what these people will do once their audience leaves them though

He may be the face of Xbox...

https://www.polygon.com/2019/8/2/20751601/ninja-mixer-twitch-microsoft-halo-infinite-xbox-scarlett

Mixer is owned by Microsoft, which also owns Halo. And we know that Microsoft, alongside Sony, is gearing up for the new generation of consoles. Halo Infinite is going to be a launch game for the next Xbox, currently known by its codename, Project Scarlett. What better way to market the proceedings than to have Blevins by your side? I wouldn’t be surprised if Blevins ends up being the name and face of Xbox, and by extension Halo, this time next year.

...

Blevins has become an advertising darling over the last year, with brands such as Samsung tapping him to help promote the Galaxy Note 9. The phone apparently sold well, although it’s hard to say how much of a part Blevins played. Yes, the man has huge reach. But the phone also came packaged with a coveted Fortnite skin that you can’t get anywhere else, and it was released when Fortnite was still taking the world by storm. Regardless, we’re already starting to see the effects of Ninja’s transition. Anecdotally, I saw a good number of people on social media either starting up Mixer accounts, or starting to check out the service, yesterday. Ninja says he’s attracted 100,000 subscribers thus far, which is probably helped by the fact that Mixer is giving away the first month of subscriptions. And as of this morning, Mixer is the most popular thing on the App Store.

Capitalism has nothing to do with value to society. Has to do with supply and demand. Microsoft isn’t giving someone trying to cure cancer 50 million because they don't have potential to help Microsoft make billions in return. By law, that’s how publicly traded companies have to operate. People been getting 200 million to play games (professional sports) for many years. People getting that to act. It’s funny seeing streaming being some people’s breaking point. Ninja, while not my thing, has more talent than Kim Kardashian.

Not my breaking point, I broke a long time ago this is just what's being discussed in this thread. Actors and athletes have been over paid for a LOOOONG time this streaming this is new in comparison but even a million a year just because people watch you play a game is insane.

But you're comparing very different things and saying something is insane relative to something that isn't ccomparable. A typical 9 to 5 job where the individual makes no money isn't comparable to a actor who helps generate hundreds of millions for a business.

Regardless, he is what people follow and also extremely popular. He also had other streamers making a move to MIXER and if this trend follows it can create a competition to the streamers them self.

I stream on all platforms and I can tell you Mixer is the better service over the others I have used by a long shot.

I can't see other big streamers making the move, though.. Way too big of a risk for anybody pulling in decent sub numbers.
