Death Stranding (Nov. 8)

16 pages deep at Resetera already. But in a good way. They support it.

So what type of game is this? I’ve heard about this game for years just never seen what it is actually going to be. Just curious.

Isn't he spouting nonsense about it being a brand new genre?

I still have no clue if I'm interested in this game or think it looks too insane for me to enjoy. I'll give it a go, but I honestly don't know WTF to expect and honestly I'm actually kind of excited by that.

The brought the "PS exclusive" label back on the posters at gamescom. The confusion over whether its coming to PC seems rather unnecessary.

The thing that really stood out to me was just how simple this game is at its core. Death Stranding is a game about walking. As Sam Porter Bridges (or as you probably know him, Normal Reedus trapped in the uncanny valley), you are tasked with walking from the East coast of America to the West, reactivating various communication nodes along the way in an effort to spread a message of hope to a nation that has become fragmented and disconnected, taking the idea of unity to pockets of an isolated populous that trades in ambivalence rather than love. That is Death Stranding.
And so you will walk. You will retrace the steps of Amelie, daughter of the President of the United Cities of America, who embarked on her own East to West journey with a convoy sometime before the game kicks into gear. She did this in an attempt to establish a network of communication relays across the country, a network that could deliver a message of unity from her mother, Bridget, who also happens to be on death’s door. That message is that every problem in the world needn't be solved by force; instead, it is hope that can bring us all together.
This is necessary after Central Knot City was destroyed in a terrorist attack – through the use of irresponsible 'Void Outs', the act of coming back from the 'Other Side', from the game's central antagonists. This has pushed pockets of civilization to disconnect themselves from the government and from each other in fear, choosing to instead go it alone in the wildlands.

🤷‍♂️

I think this might be the first game where after having seen 20 plus minutes of video on it I still can't decide if it's something I even want to play. I've not gotten the impression it looks like a "fun" game, but I also don't see it delivering any sort of deep and meaningful narrative experience. It just looks so deliberately enigmatic that I don't know if it's genuinely interesting, or just a dull mess hidden behind a veil of concoted profoundness.

I feel like it’s some sort of meta commentary on his personal life with MGS, Konami and the creatives colleagues he knows.

That first trailer could be some interpretation where he, Kojima, is Reedus and he’s now alone, naked without any help in sight, but the hands are that of Konami stealing his baby, MGS, and now must re-bridge himself with the world he knew, even though he doesn’t want to return to what was in the past he must in order to move forward.
