Does anyone know how to get Dolby Atmos working on the console using headphones? I have the Dolby Access app installed and set to Dolby Atmos for headphones in the Sound Settings but it’s doing nothing. The sound remains the same as the default Stereo Uncompressed. I don’t see any settings for Dolby Atmos in the game settings either.

On Metro Exodus it works great. The sound is unbelievable with Dolby Atmos enabled. So I know it’s working but just not with gears. Any ideas?

You gotta have the license, which you get with an Xbox x or other means. By default it’s set to MSs own sound with a name that I can’t remember atm. But it still sounds good.

If you do have it it’s somewhere in the options to change it, again I forget how to set it up but I’m sure it’s just in the settings.

*edit I think VaLLiancE may know...

Beat it. Very underwhelming game to me.

Just finished it myself and I couldn't believe that was the final boss, that seemed like the midway point in a normal story mode. I would give the story a 6.5, I'm glad they included one even if it wasn't all that great. I'm not an MP player so I think people who rate both modes together would probably give it a much higher score since the gears audience tends to love their MP modes.

They really made a mistake with this group of characters IMO, none of them are very interesting . The original cast had side characters Dom, Cole and Baird and they really all seemed like a squad, they felt like they were part of your team, yeah it was kind of a balls to the wall unrealistic group but they were fun, this new group is dull and depressing, too much rushed drama.

I know some will say "oh you just don't like xbox" and write off my opinion but as someone who loved the first 3 games I do find these last two games to be pretty subpar when compared to the originals, yeah the graphics are better but it's newer hardware so that shouldn't factor into any comparison with the original trilogy.

I feel totally opposite of what you just wrote. I enjoyed the hell out of this game.

Playing the campaign and loving it. Agree with the 30fps for SP for higher gfx fidelity but the game is still looks and plays well.

I have the license and the Dolby access app both my x1x. I have Dolby Atmos for Headphones enabled in the Xbox settings. For Metro exodus I get the Dolby spatial audio. For Gears 5 it doesn’t sound any different when compressed to the default audio option. Not sure what’s going on with it.

I'm enjoying the campaign. I keep switching between playing on my pc and my XB1X. IMO this is the level of quality and attention to detail ALL Xbox 1st party games need to be next gen. I can't imagine how different State of Decay 2 or Crackdown 3 could have been if this much care and time had been given to them.

Yeah those were 2nd party games (at the time). Microsoft has limited ability to contribute to help studio deficiencies with 2nd party. SoD3 will be the real testament to what impact a studio going from 2nd to 1st party will make.

The best thing for them will likely be that the studio gets not only bigger but more talent on the tech side, undead labs just couldn't make a AAA quality game with the group they had for their first two games.

Metro Exodus and the division 2 are AMAZING with dolby atmos.

I say go all in for open world. But get rid of the skiff, its easy enough to control but feels out of place. For Gears 5 I would have preferred my mode of transportation be a hulking truck or tank. That’s more fitting with the beef-cake/dude-bro tone of this over the top shooter.

I really hope there are more opportunities to use the Silverback power armor in the campaign. I haven’t tried Horde mode yet but I’m sure it’ll be in there too so I guess I’m covered either way.
The Brute Chopper would fit perfectly in gears.

Yeah Metro just sounds incredible with the spatial audio. It’s creepy as hell when you’re in the tunnels. I didn’t realize Division 2 has it. I’ll have to check that out as well.

^and here he is to save the day!
GP really must be cutting into Gears 5 sales, at least in the UK. It sold less than 25% of what Gears 4 did in it's first week and 20x less than Gears 3.

I am at the part where I just finished blowing the side of the bridge to drop it in place to let the train go through. I don't want the game to end, but I get a sense I am getting closer :(

Extra sad faceee.....

I've been using Dolby Atmos for about two months now with the Rig 500. If you think Metro Exodus with Atmos is impressive, check out Man of Medan. I don't think it even uses Atmos, but the sounds on the ship truly make it for an unmatched, unsettling experience.

Well..it's about only physical sales. Are you still buying physical copies? The last one I bought were the Witcher 3 and Battlechasers: Nightwar. Everything else has been digital this gen through Xbox Live or Xbox.com for a while now. During the Gears 3 era I did buy alot of physical copies in actual stores.

The last physical game I bought was about half way through the Xbox 360 lifecycle, which is when I switched to all digital.

Yeah of course the gears 3 comparison isn't all that fair since digital wasn't really a thing back then but that's still a huge drop but Gears 4 came out a little less than 3 years ago so there really shouldn't be much difference between the two, less than 25% is a huge drop. It's game pass and or a lack of interest that's the difference here. Plenty of other series have sold better than ever, god of war for instance sold more physical copies in it's first week than god of war 3 did in the UK and by a fairly large margin.

last time I saw digital sale percentages it was only around 40 to 50%. So a 75% decline from gears 4 says alot.

GoW3 came out in like 2010 and then 8 years later the soft reboot came out and was a radical departure from previous games so take that into account. Gears 4 came out in 2016 and 3 years later we got Gears 5 and while it added things it took baby steps with this latest iteration of the franchise. I don't doubt game Pass having a large impact on its sales. MSFT knew this since that's the appeal of GP service, even if they don't rope all those gamers in for the long haul as a subscriber I wound't be surprised if it kept many who just signed up to play Gears. So its mission accomplished as far as MSFT is concerned if this game does indeed net them more GP subscribers.

I’m at chapter 3 of the third act. The campaign is getting better and better. When Delta Team entered that hanger and I was able to take in the scale and detail of it all its difficult to not be impressed unless you’re dead set of hating anything related to this franchise or the Xbox. I thought the last mission in Act 2 of the research facility was great and the boss fight was certainly a call back to the Berserker boss fight in Gears 1 all those years ago. I can’t wait to see what the boss fight for the end of Act 3 will be.

I really hope the game keeps up missions like these sprinkling in action with exploration while fleshing out the story. And the characters are so well done. The voice acting is what’s selling it for me. All of them and I mean all of them have their own distinct personalities. As funny as it sounds Fahz is becoming my favorite since he’s such an unapologetic A-hole. Well, Del’s caring nature for both Kait and Jack the bot is also something I really like. And Marcus steals every scene he’s in.

One thing that’s not so good. The open areas in Act 2 and now in Act 3 are just so empty. I was expecting some random encounters that would turn into some sort of dynamic battles but that doesn’t seem to be the case here. Its just go here clear out the small area and move on. And while those are fun I can’t really call them side missions more like side errands. It would be so nice to get more campaign content as DLC but I know that won’t happen. It must take a lot of resources to design mission layouts while also crafting together these battle set pieces. Still, this is one of the best shooter campaigns I’ve played in a long time.

The hangar portion was the best and most impressive looking part of the entire game IMO.

That group of characters is a bore compared to the original group IMO, they don't have the chemistry and it's too melodramatic, the only bright spots are when the original characters show up for their cameos. I don't want to say too much because you haven't finished the game yet and I don't want to spoil anything for you but a lot of things that happen with this group feel rushed and like they are trying to cram three games worth of storytelling into two and it just comes across as lacking IMO.

I also don't think they are going to get a huge group of people renewing game pass, the hardcore xbox player probably already has it, plus they are always running $1 trials and so far I don't know anyone that's been denied a trial even if they have had the service before. I know I had it a while back and then cancelled it and then got a 2 month $2 trial to play this game, I won't be renewing it and I'm sure there are plenty of other people who will cancel as well.

To be honest I don't know if it does, but it was the first game I played with my new headphones and it sounded so great.

I hear ya, but I really like the crew I'm rolling with in this game. JD is about the only character I don't care for and he's the son of the legend himself. But he swings emotionally from one side to the other so quickly and it bothers me. So perhaps when I get further in the things you described like rushing things may rub me the wrong way but so far the story has me interested and the game play is better than its ever been so I'm happy.

I was thinking that maybe there were some gamers who sign up for Game Pass specifically for this game like you did. And then when they browse the selection of games and see semi-new titles like Metro Exodus or Devil May Cry 5 it would surprise and delight them and that would lead to new subs. I could be wrong as I'm just applying my own feelings to this scenario and its not like MSFT releases the figures of Game Pass subscriber count.
