The Last of Us Part 2 - New Trailer Contains Spoilers

Dang...I’d be ok if this were to be pushed back and become a launch title for the ps5, I know it won’t be reworked from the ground up but it’ll be closer to their vision visually.

If it looks like what they've shown so far any improvement would just be gravy.

Well hypothetically not all ND are working on this game. I am sure some of them are already working on a new I.P for PS5 but Sony does not have to rely on them to sell consoles any more when they have the likes of Guerrilla, Insomniac and Santa Monica on top form. But this game will most likely get some improvements whilst running on PS5.

I know they said they are not doing UC anymore but I would love a UC5, maybe with Nathan’s daughter. Could even be a UC spin-off that ties into UC using his daughter. I am a fan of the gameplay and storyline.

Its going to happen just not from ND

If there’s a psx, where they go into gameplay details, then I could see it being released early in the year, otherwise it may be best to hold it off as a ps5 launch title.

No PSX this year it's way too late to announce it, I don't think they've said anything official but those generally take place in December and have were always announced in the summer so people have time to make travel arrangements.

Personally if it's ready I'd launch in Feb/March and then have some story DLC ready for the PS5 launch as well as some free PS5 upgrades. I wouldn't hold it back for the PS5 launch I'd do it ASAP because it's likely to be the biggest PS4 game ever when it comes to sales.

I am curious how these companies are going to handle cross gen games, they've kind of shot themselves in the foot with the refresh consoles getting free upgrade patches. There is so much more that can be done on a next gen console that it'll take more work which means it'll cost more and I'm wondering if they'll just release PS5/Scarlett versions of the games or give free upgrades as a way to buy some good will with the customers. It's not like they'd have to do that for many games, once the new gen starts they can start winding down support for PS4/X1. I think during Giant Bomb's E3 convo with Phil Spencer he seemed a bit noncommittal to free upgrades but didn't exactly say we'd have to buy separate games either, they probably hadn't decided that by then.

We began working on this game over five years ago. It’s hard to describe the immense pressure of following up the first game. We know how much you love this world and its characters — especially Ellie and Joel. Believe me, we’re fans as well. We love them. Which is why we spent years crafting a game that we feel will do them justice, telling a nuanced story that deals with the core question: how far would you go to exact justice against the people that hurt the ones you love? It’s a highly emotional story with complex themes that befit the world of The Last of Us. What we realized pretty early on is that we were putting together Naughty Dog’s most ambitious and longest game in our 35 year history. To tell this kind of story the game needed to be massive. Without spoiling too much, at the top of this post you can watch the brand-new trailer that we debuted earlier today on State of Play, which just scratches the surface of what the game has in store.

Wasn’t a fan of the first one but willing to give this one a try after seeing this update.

I do hope they let us turn off or at least tone down the chromatic aberration, it looks like it's turned up really high in the trailer and I hate that effect.

I thought it wasn’t too bad, since most of the scenes happen in the dark, gave it some pop

Yeah I've just never been a fan of that camera effect, I like things to look cleaner and sharper vs that bit of distortion that's added. I'm not a fan of film grain either so I guess I'm just picky lol.

respect m8

but I gotta ask...film grain, like the artificial kind and or real? Spielberg and Tarantino are maybe the last two big directors who do film only with film.

I'm fine with film grain as long as it isn't overdone (it's actually essential for photo-realism). CA is annoying as hell and ruins Image quality. It's ok for certain effects, but having it on all the time makes no sense.

In games, hell even in some movies it's added artificially it seems and it decreases the image quality. Man of Steel in 4K doesn't look any better than 1080p, the film grain is so pronounced in that movie that it just has a sort of dirty look all the time.

Naughty Dog has also increased the brutality of fighting for your life in another, more thematic way: Every human enemy in Part 2 is named, so characters will often call out to each other by name as they discuss tactics or shout orders. Kill someone, and their friends will call out their name in anguish. The same goes for the dogs; it seems you'll hear a lot of pained cries from dog owners as you kill their companions in Part 2. Hearing your enemies react in emotional pain (in addition to physical pain) is a jarring addition that Newman said emphasizes the core thematic thrust of the series--and it's meant to be unsettling.

"A big part of the theme of the game are the parts of your humanity that are lost or potentially stripped away when you pursue justice," Newman said. "The lengths that you go for justice can have a very high human cost to you personally. And one of the ways I'm really excited about that we're kind of bringing that to life is our named enemies. ...Not only does it show how intelligent they are that they're able to coordinate, but by naming them, they become that much more of a real human.”
