Surprised Rockstar just dropped it like that. No marketing hype. No highlighting the upgrades, specs or new features. They just gave us a months notice. Not what I am used to.

This Epic launcher thing is going to tickle some people.

...November 5th.

Red Dead Redemption 2 will first be available through the Rockstar Games Launcher, and also available for pre-order on the Epic Games Store and Humble Store. The Steam version will be available for purchase in December. The PC port will also be a launch title for Google Stadia.

I already said this in the HDR gaming thread but for anyone who's playing on a One X do yourself a favor and turn the HDR off if you haven't already, the game looks so much better without it. It never looked like it was really a 4K game to me until I turned the HDR off, it always looked washed out and soft but now it looks much cleaner and sharper. The only problem is you have to turn HDR off in the system settings menu, for some reason Rockstar doesn't give us that option in the game menu even though I read that they do on the PS4 version.

Really, really hoping that extra story mode content finds it's way to consoles, either day & date with the pc release or soon after. I'll take any excuse to play this game again with something to freshen up the experience. Some more bounties, hideouts & weapons would do just that... I also wish they'd implement a few of the quality of life improvements from the online into the SP... like naming outfits and alternate holstering spins...

Well tried playing last night and found that I'm gonna need a new GPU.
I can handle Outer Worlds fine. Games like Control, Red Dead, Cyberpunk, etc. will need a new card in my book. I plan on rebuilding next year in anticipation for those types of games. Not only because they demand it, but I want them to look as good as can be.

Some games aren't effected or I don't care if it's on the highest setting.

I'm contemplating pulling the trigger on a 2070 Super? $500 seems steep to me though.

I haven't priced out anything. I'll need a knew CPU, motherboard and graphics card. Maybe update memory.

I just bit the bullet and went with a 2080 Super with a Ryzen 12-core CPU, lol (32gigs of RAM). I use it for 3d graphics work, though. Haven't bought Red Dead (Already played with it), but the Ray-Tracing in Control is pretty darn awesome (now, if only they fixed that damn texture LOD glitch!).

I figure I'm good for a few years now (last computer lasted almost 8 years). I almost went with a 2080 ti, but the price to performance gains over the Super just weren't great enough. I hear the 2070 S was a good bump from the 2070.

It's pretty awesome to be able to run 1440p Ultra settings @~60fps on everything. It actually has me doing a third play-through of the Witcher 3, lol, hairworks and all!

To clear up any confusion, Nvidia tweeted that the inclusion of the logos was simply a reference to its RTX 20-series products and that RDR2 does not have ray tracing—Nvidia was simply using the opportunity to advertise its RTX graphics cards. - Source

Game of the century

Will be playing it for the first time in a few days when my new GPU gets here. Just because of this comment I decided to start freeing up some space on my hard drive for it now.

Why not 4k? If you've got a 1440p monitor you can still use dynamic super resolution.

Because I still can't get a solid 60fps with Hairworks and Ultra @4k for one, or with RayTracing on in certain games. For another, My PC monitor isn't even 1440p, so no reason to waste resources.

This isn't the Witcher 3 thread.... RDR2 was great though...
Yeah... I'm playing it on switch atm, did it on xbox/ one X about a year ago. It's a bit jarring graphically at first but when you get used to it not being a One X enhanced version you can appreciate how great it looks, easily best looking game on switch and much easier to get time into because portability. Would never play it docked though.
But yes, rdr2 prob second to witcher.

Game crashes on me after 90-120 minutes of play consistently. I figured it was a heat issue so I messed with the fans, lowered targeted temps etc. etc.. Didn't help so far. It's tough in the winter time, lol. Gotta cover up the vents and sit in the room freezing just to get in a marathon run.

Sorry for resurrecting this old thread, but I finally got to Chapter 5 of this game. LMAO it turned into Assassin's Creed: Black Flag.

Is Red Dead Redemption 2 worth playing? Noticed it was on sale for $27 on the MS Store. Thinking about finally giving it a go, but I remember a mixed reception for the game at release. I loved the first game back on XB360 played through all of it.

Looked for the old official thread couldn’t find it.

I loved the first. But found the story in 2 to be boring as hell. I also thought the world was too big and made travelling a chore. Everything else, from what I remember, was good. Was a pretty game back then too.

It's really good. Also, definitely worth finishing.

I still haven't finished it, but I'm finally getting through it on PC. It is a great game and a terrible game.

RDR2 is a game that forces you to enjoy it the way it was intended, and that's both great and terrible.

RDR2 is a great story that forces you to take a slow path through it. The environments are amazing and I can 100% see what people wanted this to be. It forces moral choices on you whether you want them or not. It is probably one of the most engrossing video game stories out there.

In movie terms, GTA is a superhero movie, while this is some oscar winning movie with Francis McDormand in it.

If you want GTA on horses, this isn't it. You've got to clean your gun, feed and brush your horse, rest yourself and eat. Again, it has a pace and you will follow it, there's no other option. This is a very long game and there's no shortcuts.

I appreciate it for what it is. I get why some people love it and others don't. A perfect example of this game is you'll be riding along and you'll see armed bad guys attacking innocent people. You go and shoot them and save the people, and suddenly you'll see the message "crime witnessed". Someone saw you shoot people, and that's bad (even though you killed bad people). Now you have to deal with an innocent witness who is going to report your "crime" to the authorities. Every little side mission is a moral test, and more often than not, it feels random and weird. Half the time, you see multiple people in a dispute, and there's no easy answer,

Now, you can just play the bad guy and that's fun, but the game punishes you for that too. You'll constantly be paying off bounties on yourself, so your ill gotten gains get eaten up to the point where you're better off sticking to the main missions.

It is a massive open world, but often really boxes you in for how you can play it sometimes.

The action is also fun, but frustrating. You're a gunslinger, but combat is fairly realistic. You'll use cover and have to be careful. I found it especially challenging on controller for some reason. On mouse it feels better.

If you made it this far, you'll see there's no easy answer. The game is beautiful and has some amazing moments that are on par with actual movies. This is one of the few games where I actually care about the characters and what happens to them. If you asked me to score it, I couldn't. I love it for what it is, but it frustrates me when it holds me to its narrow vision.
