I don't think that cracker box shaped device would even fit inside of my entertainment center horizontally. I sorta like the look of it, but my shelves barely fit the height of my receiver.
it is the same height as the xbox one x standing

What we need are developers to allow their current gen games to have better performance and visuals in next gen consoles. But that won't happen.

^ They are supposed to release a less powerful version no? I thought that just meant this particular console is the more powerful.

I think that's really an understated achievement. No need to buy new controllers, headsets etc because your xbox one stuff still works. Major props to them for that. Means alot of players that upgrade won't be left behind, especially those that use the adaptive controller. Plus full on BC for Xbox one games means my backlog can come with me to the next gen!
He also said the new controller will also work on xbox one.

Phil Spencer, Microsoft's Head of Xbox, described the Series X as "our fastest, most powerful Xbox", saying it packs eight times the GPU power of the original Xbox One, and double that of the high-end Xbox One X. The console's GPU — which is believed to be from AMD — hits 12 teraFLOPs and can produce 8K video on a 120Hz screen.

Yawn

Notes from the Gamespot interview:

  • "We wanted to design a console where the form was driven by the function," said Spencer. "And the function--as I said--was to really play the highest power, most immersive games possible."
  • Series X's square footprint is roughly as wide as an Xbox One controller and (again, roughly) three times as tall. There's an illuminated Xbox-logo serving as the power button, a slot for inserting discs, and very little else to speak of on the front. It's simple and elegant overall
  • I was also told that the transition from the face of the controller to the top and over to the back is more rounded than before
  • We do have a share button. We've heard the feedback. We're not the first ones to do a share button, so we're not going to say that we invented that, but we've heard feedback that sharing is such a part of a gaming experience now for many of our players that I wanted a dedicated hardware button to share, so you'll see that. We'll still have all the rumble triggers and haptic feedback that you've had in the console before."
  • Spencer also noted that while the current Xbox One controller fits the majority of hands, according to Microsoft's research, the new design is ever-so-slightly smaller in subtle ways to increase that coverage from 95% to 98%.
  • There is currently no release date for Hellblade 2, but I felt it worth asking about the current state of its development. All I was told is that the game was on Ninja Theory's roadmap by the time Microsoft approached the studio regarding partnership opportunities.
  • Spencer and Ronald seem to be saying all the right things. There isn't much I can fault with their plans, insomuch as I'm aware of them. It's been days since our meeting, and I can't shake how impressive-looking Senua's Saga is, the bold console design, nor the confidence with which it was unveiled.

Dealer LoL

Yeah that was hyperbole, sure it could end up being the most powerful but nobody knows that yet and it's stupid to claim it at this point, if MS was sure about it they'd be shouting it from the rooftops.

Have to say good on MS for going with a matte finish from the start, that's so much better than the glossy crap we always get when a new gen console first launches.

This is where that guy loses all credibility, he is misleading his followers to try to claim that he was right about something. MS surprised everyone by showing the box so soon, they never once claimed they were the fastest and most powerful console only fastest and most powerful Xbox they've ever made.

The overall 'power' remains to be seen anyways. It'll depend on how the rest of the system is setup, right? RDNA architecture gets more out of a TF than current GCN architecture. How much more depends on what version of RDNA, but either way, it's a significantly better setup.

I copied this from someone on Era:

"Their official blog post on the reveal once again use the words "next generation RDNA" as they have used during initial E3 reveal and AMD press release too. I wouldn't be shocked if they have more to say about their specs at CES when AMD talks about RDNA v2.0, and the Xbox hardware team was tweeting things last night about being just the beginning and excited to share more soon and such. I am not saying that they have a full RDNA v2.0 setup in there necessarily, but maybe they leaped ahead just enough in their hardware choices to be confident in the performance per FLOP being better than the PS5 so that they can still claim a power crown even if they somehow end up less than 10% below in paper TF spec (i.e. Xbox Series X TF a little more performant than PS5 TF). "

Microsoft has to be careful with their wording. Sony, if behind could alter their components.
Sony made a comment about changing how games are played and touting new features over power. But we’ll see.
